It's certainly the most unique of the Bond themes. I'm not that into techno music, but I really like this song (save for the pauses). Really catchy beat.

I like it! Not the best Bond theme ever but it could be MUCH worse.

I can't wait to hear the film version.

It's good to hear the full version this time. I am in love with this song. It rules! Soon we might be hearing, "Welcome back to the #1 spot, James Bond!"

This song is a certain number one song! It will rock the charts, it's fresh, new and not a sappy ballad like the last two Bond songs. It's time for something new and she has done it with this song! The lyrics are a lot deeper then they might seem. Here are the actual lyrics:

I'm gonna wake up, yes and no
I'm gonna kiss somebody
I'm gonna keep this secret
I'm gonna close my body now

I guess I'll die another day (4x)

I guess I'll die another day, another day (4x)

Sigmund freud, analyze this(3x)

I'm gonna break the cycle
I'm gonna shake up the system
I'm gonna destroy my ego
I'm gonna close my body now

I think I'll find another way
There's so much more to know
I guess I'll die another day
It's not my time to go
for every sin I'll have to pay
A time to work, a time to play
I think I'll find another way
It's not my time to go

I'm gonna avoid the cliche
I'm gonna suspend my senses
I'm gonna delay my pleasure
I'm gonna close my body now

I guess I'll die another day (4x)

I think I'll find another way
There's so much more to know
I guess I'll die another day
It's not my time to go

uhhh, hahahahha

I guess I'll die another day (4x)

another day (7x)

Have a great day!!!

A BIG THANK U to robster.

robster, i know that (since day 1 of your posts on these forums) you have been defending madonna's involvement in this movie against the die hards who want the "classic" sound to prevail in the movies.

well i have been a 'die hard' since diamonds are forever and have most of the soundtracks.

i wanted to wait and listen and then judge.

so...robster, my friend, u did well to defend her and inform us of what was going on these past few months with the song.

my verdict?

your right...it shakes up the formula. we needed that in the bond titles.

sure, its not your typical shirley bassey/rita coolidge/carly simon song...and i dont think we needed yet another one of those. i love DAF, all time high, and nobody does it better...but this is certainly an interesting one that BREAKS THE CYCLE...that SHAKES UP THE SYSTEM.

the strings and the electro beat mesh well together. it will be a monster in the clubs around the world especially with all those mixes in the pipeline. a 9.5/10 for the melody

the lyrics seem suited for bond in this movie. a 9/10 for the lyrics

only problem i have with this song is i wished the delivery of the lyrics hadnt been through a vocoder in its entirety. the singing, as a result, lacks something. a 6.5/10 for the delivery and her voice

i like it more that Garbage's TWINE and SCs TND but prefer KD langs surrender and goldenEye...but i'm sure it'll grow on me more.

so,over all an 8.3 out of 10....and hopefully a top 3 song world-wide to add fuel for a $400 million gross box-office globally.

good on ya, mads!!!!

and good on ya, robster!!!

I believe the pauses are intentional, if you listen closely, when Madonna sings Die Another Day, her voice breaks up too, so yes, all the pauses are intentional.

I liked the song back when I heard the rough version, and I like it now, great song, different for a Bond film.

Edit: I dont know if its a problem on my computer or not. But only half the song will laod up for me when I click on the link. Is it because when it was loading up the song earlier I stopped halfway through? If thats the problem, how do I fix it?

The first time I listened to this I was not suprised what I would hear from Madonna: dog****. It is absoultely unBond. Maybe If I listen to it again, I might like it. But it's nothing I didn't expect from Madonna. As of now, its **** from this man.

Madonna it is, Bond it's not. Would any of us recognize this as a 007 theme if we tuned into it halfway while it was playing on the radio? I do like the song in general but I wish it had a little something to identify it as James Bond. I have this same problem with themes like "Nobody does it better".

Yikes!

Still, I like this song BECAUSE it's so unBond. I think all the Pierce era theme songs have been bogged down in their attempts to sound like a "proper" Bond theme; namely...a retread of Goldfinger. I'm sick of the Goldfinger-like ballads and I'm thrilled Madonna when her own way and just created a song and not a "Bond song." It's very much what Sir Paul did with LALD, Carly Simon did with Nobody Does it Better, and Duran Duran did with AVTAK. And what do all these have in common? Answer: they were all hits!

I think we're looking at the first hit Bond theme in a long, long time...weird pauses and all. :)

Well, it took me 20 minutes to download the song to my freakin' Real Player, but it was worth the wait. A classic? No; but unlike most of the Bond themes of the past two decades, this song is instantly memorable (the tune is in my head even as I write these words--a sure sign I'll be hearing this all over town real soon). What I like best about the song are its melody and the violin strings (how are those for Bondian?); but I could live without the voice synthesizer and I'm not too wild about the techno sound myself. Still and all, not bad.

To those of you who think it is unbond.... please tell me what you think of duran duran's a view to a kill, lulu's the mad with the golden gun, and even Ah-a's The Living Daylights....all of those songs were very upbeat for theit respective time. Since the man with the golden gun strayed so far away from what u call "typical" bond themes, it doesnt make any sense why you would immediately dislike this song. I have a funny feeling that the version you listened to was the radio edit and not the actual rendition you will here during the titles sequence. Though it does sound techno, and it does feel very alternative, it takes a song like this to complete the already unbelievable package we are going to get with Die Another Day. Woud u rather have the Dr. No Underneath the Mango tree play for Die Another Day, Mr. "unbonds"? !!!!! Live a little for crying out loud!

It is different, thats why I think it's going to be a hit! Bond is back (well, he never left) but in big style. It may never return to those 60's days, but WOW. The song is but isnt very Bondian, I think they are just trying something new. With the smashing images and action, to the new fast paced song, the makers of xXx are going to wish they hadn't even bothered! (although xXx did make a little sum at the box office)

Okay where do I begin?

Thanks for the link, it's appreciated.

My thoughts? I don't know. I'll probably get flamed for saying this, no, I know I'll get flamed for this:

As a song, I like it. I'd dance to it, I'd listen to it.

As a Bond song. To me, it's not a Bond song. Maybe it's the radio edit version, maybe I'll sway towards remixes. But I pray that this edit isn't the one that appears over the titles.

I don't know, maybe after hearing the opening snippets the other day I got my hopes up for something jazzy, stringy. But this just doesn't work for me.

And here are the official lyrics. Don't ask, cause I shant tell;

I'm gonna wake up, yes and no
I'm gonna kiss somebody
I'm gonna keep this secret
I'm gonna close my body now

I guess I'll die another day (4x)

I guess I'll die another day, another day (4x)

Sigmund freud, analyze this (3x)

I'm gonna break the cycle
I'm gonna shake up the system
I'm gonna destroy my ego
I'm gonna close my body now

I think I'll find another way
There's so much more to know
I guess I'll die another day
It's not my time to go
for every sin I'll have to pay
A time to work, a time to play
I think I'll find another way
It's not my time to go

I'm gonna avoid the cliche
I'm gonna suspend my senses
I'm gonna delay my pleasure
I'm gonna close my body now

I guess I'll die another day (4x)

Hi there,

Uhm... Blue Eyes, I already posted those lyrics, but the more the merrier. True the song is dance and upbeat. But I think it has a really Bondian flavour to it. Bond has always been high tech with his new gadgets and stuff but he kept to classic songs the last few years. They needed a big shake-up. Something to wake the crowds up and here it is. The song has instant huge hit written all over it. It will be a smash everywhere. And that also means huge exposure for "Die Another Day". I think this version could also work very well during the opening titles by the way. Using the same start up and slow down technique and have pieces of Ice flying through the shy with the naked women of course. The song immediately tells everyone that Bond has had a little update, that it's time for something new and that's the way it was marketed to begin with. Bond would go further then he ever went before. This song fits that description. From the forums I read people all seem to love it, with a few exceptions, but Madonna fans are going crazy over the track, and so are Kylie fans (they actually fear for Kylie's new single with this killer track around, hahaha). Bond will be in th charts again, and not at the bottom or in the middle this time. Right at the top were he belongs!!!

Have a great day!!!

Support for Blue Eyes here. At 02.30 there are some pieces of the song I like, but in General it doesn't work for me as a Bond song. Hey, it's the 40. Aniversary, they should have come up with smething "Goldfinger" like, not with such a dance string ****. I had my doubts by hearing Madonna would do it and well, now I know why. Sad.

Something Goldfinger like? Haven't the last few ballad-songs (not to mention the long list of parodies) tried to be "Goldfinger-like"???
I think it's ok...I'll probably get used to it after repeated listening as I'm sure many of us will...The 2:30 bit with the strings in the background was a highlight..If only the techno/pauses were toned down and the slow strings given more exposure...
But a definite hit...so I'm kinda happy...

You know, Madonna should 'die another day' she was commited to do the title song. I mean, sure maybe a bond song needed some refreshment but madonna's song IS NOT it. It is a typical disco song, nothing oryginal in itself, and surely not in the bond song franchise! You know, you could also put up a hyena with a band of nightingales and say that it sounds original - effect is comparable. The song is not even unBond, it's antyBond. Madonna 's techno-scramble-like-sounds are ludicrous, as well as her electronicly converted voice. If I wanted to listen this kind of sounds with the title sequence at the cinema, I would just [censored] with my armpit!

And you know what the most ironical thing is? It's that the music in the background is fantastic! It is classic and fresh at once, which is what the bond song should now be - the violins (and I love violins!) are classic in themself; the sound is very dramatic, but the usage of it is clearly fresh, giving a feeling of a speed up rhythm. And that's all the modern element bond song needs, it doesn't need the whole techno thing and Madonna with her stupid laughs and 'sighing'! As for the highlights it's also about 1.53~ and 2.30~, which are the parts where the techno-layer is gone. Unfortunetly , there's not much more of it...:)

Ok, here's my review of the song:

Pros: I liked the fast pace of the song and the violin/string section - it sounds very dramatic and almost gives the feeling of an industrial, workman-like motif. You can almost imagine (if it does happen in the title sequence) Bond being tortured by his enemies, with the shocking images and sounds of whips or other instruments accompanying the piece.

Cons: I'm not keen on the electronic sound of Madonna's voice or the electronic, techno-ish beat and other electronic sounds. In itself, it's not a bad thing, but I fear it could make the song sound very dated in a few years time, just like TLD sometimes sounds a bit 80-ish because of the 80-ish sounds associated with A-ha. If Madonna used her proper, more mature sounding voice it would have retained a more classical sound that would stand the test of time. Also, I think her normal voice sounds more dramatic and intimidating, like a stern Prussian general or femme fatale, which would have fitted in very well with the message she conveys in the song.

I only hope she has produced a version with her normal voice and a less electronic beat which might not become stuck in the early 21st century.

I've just downloaded it off another site and I can't say I'm too fond of it.

It's not good, not Bond and too electronic. Th strings are fantastic though. It'd be great if they appeared on their own in a chillout track.

I can see this going to #1 but not for the right reasons. This song will appeal to a general audience, but not Bond fans.

Anyway, I guess the only reason to wait for the single now is for the OAKENFOLD remix of the James Bond Theme.

Hopefully they'll fix the theme for the song. :)

Wow! This song rocks! It has a new sound- for a new Bond! I bet when the real version comes out, it will sound even better, because you have to remember this sounds like it was recorded off of an internet stream. The MP3 may be encoded at 320k, but the stream may have been like 96k or something. Also, I bet the version in the titles will have a longer intro.

Any way, I give it a 9 out of 10 overall. We have an upbeat song after a bunch of slow ones, by a very popular artist, something the last 4 have lacked (though they were still popular). Just wait to see the song with the titles- it will rock!

Yeah it did have that twit on. Also at the end it has a guy talking about driving around looking for food and then there's this gigantic belch soun effect. It messes up the track really, but it's still good to listen to just for the feel of the song.

Thinking about the credits seqeunce after the opening teaser section, we are told we will see Bond tortured during that. How on Earth can anyone marry that song with a credits sequence inwhich Brosnan is tortured? Can it really work? While the song in itself is certainly a creative departure for Madonna from previous stuff, its far more out there than 'music' was, I do like it, but, it aint Bond is it. At least I dont feel as disappointed as I did when I first heard the Garbage TWINE song or Sheryl Crow's TND tune - and I'm a Crow fan!
