I basically removed everything between about the 13 second point and the 35 second point (the edit is flawless) and it gives the beginning of the song some focus, some drive, keeping it from getting all messy. It's a little less Jack White, and a little more James Bond. The runtime of my version is 3:52 (as opposed to 4:14). I can't wait until I get the official download so I can do it in a better quality!

I've always thought they were a match made in heaven, and surprised it took this long for even a rock/R&B hybrid Bond song to get made.I dunno, I just don't think R&B is very Bond.

so are you able to download it? my iTunes site (Germany) doesn't list it...
Bummer, isn“t it? iTunes is sooooo slow when adding new releases.

I just used iTunes to do a little surgery on AWTD and it actually helped it quite a bit.

Funny, i did that little experiment myself yesterday. I'm not sure what version you are using, so i am not sure where exactly your times refer to. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to compare the results. My version is 2:45. One transition of my version is slightly edgy and unclean though.

The iTunes version has a slightly different ending. Can't decide if it's for the best...

I am not so sure about the staccato bridge with its moans and electronic guitar licks. I think the title is too close to DAD and I agree with those that think Quantum Of Solace could have been slipped into the lyrics somehow. But is that just being too fannish?
I don't think it is pastiche Bond at all but it is very Bondian, very hip. I guess that coupled with MK12's title sequence, the tune will be burned on our brains for years. I understand MK12 are also directing the pop video too.
For me, the genius of Madonna's excellently Bondian Die Another Day was that it opened up the envelope of what could be considered a "Bond" song. Followed by Chris Cornell's superb anthemic You Know My Name, this song continues the trend of shaking things up and that, IMO, is a good thing. IMO, Sal's Devil May Care would never have been considered appropriate were it not for the innovations started in 2002.
When I listen to compilations of Bond themes I always like the variants and things outside the box (I must be amongst the few who adore Scott Walker's Only Myself To Blame - David Arnold wrote the song as a sequel to WHATTITW). The reggae rock of Live And Let Die must have been a huge jolt in 1973 and now it is a classic.
Hopefully AWTD will get global airplay and become the type of song that infiltrates other media. The music market these days is so diverse and split that traditional chart success is less of an indicator of acceptance. Sales are important but the song is there primarily to bring promotional awareness to the film. The ink AWTD has already garnered is great for QoS. Plus, I have a sneaky suspicion that some doubters will be converted and AWTD will fit in the pantheon of Bond pop.
"Shoot 'em up, bang bang!"

I voted for 'It's OK', I know regret this, as I have now fallen in love with it.
Don't worry... there's a cure! ;-)

I'm a guitarist, so I tried to figure out the chords to AWTD
Is it me, or are the verse chords same as the chorus chords to YKMN?
No, you are right, it's the same theme. Having listened to the entire song, I think it's a joke and that Jack White is mocking everybody here. You just have to look a the title I mean, it's like many of the threads which were mocking the Broz titles with their overuse of "Die" and "Day" (or variations like tomorrow) in it. Another Tomorrow Never Dies any Day indeed !

The film version will be even shorter. Every Titles sequence is about 3 minutes, sometimes less, sometimes more...but never more than about 3:15.

Indeed, the more they cut from this one the better frankly. This along with a really really good title sequence could hopefully limit the damage. People have mentioned remixing it, but that would do no good at all. The best part of it is the drumming but you can't drown out some of the horrible harmonies with drums, or make one persons vocals more prominent, that would simply make it badly produced and even worse to listen to.
All of my friends have now heard this, many music students/musicians among them and all think it's the second worst after Madonnas atrocity. We all appreciate Jack White's instrumental skill and Alicia Keys amazing voice and piano skills and are not biased, we all simply agree that it's a terrible composition, nothing to do with style etc, just a rubbish song with two voices that clearly aren't working well together, way too harsh.
This is a big blow for the film IMO, a real shame.

This isn't at all surprising as the chord progression you're talking about is simply the Bond theme in a different key (B minor in YKMN). Very lazy writing of a Bond song, but this laziness is even more apparent simply in the way this song takes forever to open with a lot of unsure drum fills along with this lazy guitar, full of pauses as if wondering where to go next and then a shockingly bad single piano note. My own brother who plays piano sat down and played a more complex and interesting piece on that beat. They didn't even try.

If you're really that curious, you could try reading the rest of the thread, but beware that you'll have to wade through A LOT of people venting.I'd like to read WHY people like it after goign to all the effort of writing exactly why I don't like it. It does get annoying.

I've said this before and I'll say it again, since 1999 every Bond song has followed garbage.
Hmmm quite.
Best Bond song IMO is Diamonds, really cool atmospheric composition with a wicked bass line, slick lyrics and sick drumming.

The more I listen to this song, the more I'm falling in love with it. It has a really Bondain tune. I know the vocals are a little meh, but I can live with it.
I really do adore Alica 'Whoa'ing' over the theme tune from some reason. I don't like when it goes all techno though, she sounds like she's getting electrocuted.
Yeah, she duets with White's guitar at one point. Yeah, I like this more and more, as I listen to it.
It has really polarised us lot though. Look at the voting, it is pretty even across the board from loving it to hating it.

OK, finally received the download. And it sounds better (higher quality?), but I still need a lot more convincing that it's at least a good Bond song, let alone a great one.Yeah, I tried that after I posted.Available here on Australian iTunes too.The song has now hit the UK iTunes store, and can be downloaded in high quality
EDIT: OOPS! It shows up after a search but not available to download yet.
I had the same problem in the UK, but clicking "buy album", rather than on the album itself, downloaded the track - tried that?![]()
Bought it, but it hasn't downloaded yet.

I'm hoping that by hearing it over the title graphics it'll fall into place and become a bitchin' Bond song to me.

He was defending the 'dirty' sound- said it would work on the titles.
Thanks, marktmurphy.
There's a reason for everything they're doing. I understand that they're trying to make every single shot of film something "special".
I have little doubt that the song will be edited down to the order of 3 mins to 3:15 mins (i.e. the same as all the other songs/Titles) and no longer.
I have little doubt that the song WITH the Titles will be "special" and memorable (in a 'good' way.)
