The atmosphere of exotic locales was one of the top elements of the Bond movies. Unfortunately, with modern airline travel and internet access there is no place that really still is exotic enough. Or at least it seems so. The privilege of Bond going to some far away place and the audience only able to do so through him is gone. This is one of the big challenges that EON has to face with each new film.

Yes, that is certainly true. Having been lucky enough to travel to some of the countries featured in the Bond movies from Venice, Paris and Greece, to Thailand, Japan and the Caribbean. However, with Casino Royale they managed to find some new exotic locations, even in Europe. And how many of us, when on holiday, get to stay in a place as nice as Bond does in the Bahamas? :(

I always liked the scene in GoldenEye, after he exits the Casino, walks past the Grecco-Roman style steps and that weird Euro-carnie-mime-thing(well, ya know what Im talkin 'bout!) and looks out across the night sky and the shimmering water towards the yaughts and city lights. I also like the Turkish bath scene as well, just in the sense that it looks damn relaxing and I've never enjoyed a pool all to myself. Seriously, an entire Turkish bath...all to yourself...thats great.

Yes, a mime artist. Quite an eerie little scene that one.

I have been very lucky to have had a pool to myself a number of times, at various hotels around the world, and also where I used to live in Sydney, there was a shared outdoor pool for all residents, and it was almost always empty (or at least occupied by a lass in a bikini...:(...)

Oh, I prefer this from a completely empty pool(though I've tried it!). :(

There's a nice hotel room in QOS - after Bond gets himself and Fields an upgrade, that is.

I also think of Bond and Mathis discussing bad guys over white wine, in the sun, as living the high life. And without a credit card too!

I started a thread like this a while ago, to invite posters to talk about their favorite classy scenes. As this one is active, though, I'll repeat my tuppence worth:

Yes, the casino scene in Thunderball, and Bond damcing with Domino afterwards.

All of OHMSS - casino, bullfight birthday party, Piz Gloria...you name it.

Las Vegas itself isn't all that classy, but drop Sean Connery in there in a white dinner jacket and he creates an aura of class around himself that transcends his location.

Champagne poolside with Magda in Octopussy. I want to be frozen in time living this moment (in this and all the above scenes it's John Barry's score that makes it work).

Casino Royale in Montenegro of course, with the added element of danger and intrigue around every corner.

I could go on, but these are the ones that most impress me.

Least impressive: wine with Stacey (even john Barry couldn't save this one).

I love the classy bits in Bond films. In agreement with DR76, Bond's entrance to the Casino in TB is the type of filming that makes a good Bond film. The opening Casino scene in OHMSS is just as good. Fast forward to the eighties and I like Tanya Robert's entrance in AVTAK as Bond and Tibbett look on. The photography and location work is stunning. As mentioned earlier, TLD is pure class and a great part is Bond and Han's exchange in the Vienna Hotel.
