Hello y'all.

Just back from the event and it was a fantastic night.

Lots of big band numbers, a star studded celebrity line up, including Daniel Craig, Sir Rog, the Pikelet, Toby Stephens reading as Bond and Jeremy Irons reading as Fleming.

A really enjoyable evening, to be sure. I'll try post more later.

This is my first post here BTW.

One would think, they are used to his stubbles by now :( You seldom se him clean shaven on events.

Entertaining (at times quite bizarre) evening. We found it more fun to not look at the programme as you literally didn't know who or what was coming next: c-list nobody celeb or actual proper megastar. Or Brian Connelly.

Roger was great as you'd expect, good to see him and Daniel together, the orchestra sounded good (some of the cover versions were better than the originals: For Your Eyes Only sounded great and was much better sung than original- Lemar was very good at All the Time in the World, too. Lee Mead a bit weak); Paul McCartney actually signed off his video message by making 'OK' hand signs and wishing us all 'Live and let die' (!)... lots of fun bits. I'd have to look at the programme to remember it all.

But never mind all these tops celebs: no less than Dempsey and Makepeace were in the audience.

Yep, sometimes, no, often, it sucks to be living in Japan....
and the 24 jan release date for QOS just rubs salt in the wound. (I am flying to Korea just to see the film.)

Actually, no-one's mentioned the clip of Quantum we got to see: a brief scene with Camille and Bond entering his hotel (looking a little the worse for wear)- Bond is handed a note which says:
Spoiler

You mentioned there was a programme - what was it like?

Something worth picking up for those who didn't attend??

It's nice enough- a brochure with a few pieces written by Higson, Weinberg and the like, along with some goodwill adverts (a nice full page QoS ad with Michael & Babs saying thank you to Fleming etc.) and a big section with quotes from everyone involved regarding their Fleming memories, varying from the fun (Roger's glee at reporters' shock at the name of the next Bond film: Octopussy), the inane (Lee Mead loved the TND car chase), to the bizarre (presumably a design error means that Daniel Craig's most striking Fleming memory is simply the words 'James Bond'!). Some Bond facts and figures, that sort of thing. It's quite nicely knocked up- I'd imagine signed ones are worth grabbing if you can.

Did I miss something? Why is Craig's arm in a sling?

Nevermind. Should have read the article first.

If anyone can supply me with a pic of Charlie Higson at the event, I'd be much obliged. (I'm working on a story about Charlie's role in the evening on my site.)

Nice collection of pics at REX. Unfortunately, you have to pay for larger versions.

"CAROLINE MUNRO, 58, was the first woman ever killed by Bond." - is that true? Seems right as far as I can be bothered to think about it.

Bond doesn't pull the trigger on Fiona but he knowingly thrusts her into the path of a bullet intended for him. I'd say he kills her.

It was one of the best Ian Fleming/James Bond events ever.
Extremely entertaining, sometimes moving, forever memorable.

Just caught up with this thread. The event was knockout. Sadly I heard it couldn't be televised or recorded because of the orchestra. 60 musicians on Musicians' Union rates would have been way too expensive for anyone to broadcast. everyone else gave their time for free - but not the band - mind you, they were bloody good.
