They might think two discs looks better to the consumer than just one. I think that's stupid but that's why I'm not in marketing. If they can fit all the special features, they should do it because that's more convenient. Are 2 discs really necessary for the Blu-ray releases of these films? Current Blu-rays are capable of holding up to 50 gigabytes of data, which is, I would think, more than enough to hold a high definition Bond film and the standard definition (I'm assuming) special features.

I think that you're right, but I also think that it's the wrong marketing approach to take with Blu-ray. If anything, they should be promoting the fact that they can fit so much material onto one disc which would make the format even more appealing. Currently, Blu-rays can hold 50 gigabytes, but currently there is work being done to try to make discs that can hold even more than that. I think that that is what should be promoted with the Blu-ray format, rather than how many discs are included in the case.

What I am liking is the £17 price. Not quite what I'd like to see, but getting closer.

So these will be movie only editions ? With no commentaries ?
With special features yet to be confirmed, its hard to say at this point. My personal guess is that these Blu-ray discs will be carbon copies of the Ultimate Edition releases when it comes to the special features, including audio commentaries.

What the
is up with these random pairings? Dr. No, Live and Let Die and Die Another Day in one set?
So people buy the lesser-liked ones. Makes sense to me. Not saying I like it, but it does kind of make sense.

Lesser-liked ones? That's a matter of opinion. Dr. No and Live and Let Die are way more liked than Die Another Day. I think they should do singles or one box set. None of this in-between crap. What the

Surely the UA editions will be slapped on a bigger disk albeit with a better compression but with the same quality?

Do you mean the Ultimate Editions (UE) or United Artists (UA) Editions (Don't exist)? This is where I'm dumb. (not the first time eh, wanker
) But I guess the quality will be the same as the UA's?

The UA editions was just wishful thinking.

It should be considerably better. The Ultimate Editions were encoded in standard definition, with typically about 480 lines of vertical definition by 630 horizontal, or in total about 300,000 pixels of information per frame.
Blu-Ray's definition is 1080 vertically by 1920 horizontally, or about 2,000,000 pixels of information per frame. So the uplift in quality will be considerable (about 6x is the number often quoted). In addition colour rendition should be better.
The sound qualilty is also potentially better, but I guess with the older films the quality of the original recordings will limit the scope for improvement

I'm glad I didn't fork out for the UEs when they came out. Will pick up the BRs when the prices drop a little.

Thankfully you can buy them seperately as well this time around: http://commanderbond.net/article/5325

It says on the Main Page that Die Another Day will include Trailers and TV Spots, aswell as radio communications. So are some of the special features from the first Die Another Day DVD release being brought forward or Is this just a typo?
I'm more interested in seeing the Deleted Scenes myself.
The listing has been updated.

On thing I have not seen is whether or not they are going to use the 4K scans they made of the Connery movies for this release or if they are just going to remaster the UE DVDs for HD. Same goes for the audio - Casino Royale has uncompressed PCM 5.1 so I would think they would go with this same format. I hope I am wrong but I think the 4K scans will come out in the next Blu-ray release so we have a reason to by them again. This is where I'm dumb. (not the first time eh, wanker

I can't say I like these random film pairings.
Random doesn't begin to describe it.
I'd much rather buy them one at a time.
