Thanks for the responses tdalton and Professor Dent. It's definitely an interesting time to be a fan, but a cautious one as well. I'm somebody whose naturally on the fence about a lot of things and am going to make some careful decisions before committing.

The Bond series is the one case where I will almost always adapt to change. But there being a difference of two years between releases here whereas there were seven years between the release of the original SEs and the UEs. How much more do I really want to invest right now?

I doubt it's true, but I thought I would just check.

Picture-in-picture; at certain points throughout the film another picture pops up usually in the corner of the main pic, showing maybe storyboards for the scene that is playing, how certain special effect were done, interviews with cast or crew etc. But further to the discussion about newer films looking better. That is not always the case. I think some newer films can look too clean too processed and over sharp and consequently don't look natural and real. There are some fantastic looking old films on Blu-ray. The John Wayne film the Searchers springs to mind. On older films, film grain is part of the texture of the film, it is meant to be there. Also as someone who has been converted to hi-def and Blu-ray over a year it is a real leap forward but in many ways a subtler one than advertised. It is not always a film being super sharp, but the depth and richness of colour that gives a superb transfer an almost 3D quality. It kind of creeps up on you. I for one am really looking forward to seeing those early Bond's with Ted Moore's wonderful saturated cinematography on Blu-ray. Lets just hope they are not over processed because today's filmgoer is not used to seeing old films on a big screen with all the film grain inherent in the picture.

Looks like the six will be released in a box set as well as individually (in the UK at least). RRP is £99.99 for the boxset or £22.99 for each seperately

Play.com now taking pre-orders (at£80 for the box, or £17 for each)

Thanks for the update

That's a lot of money, you can buy the entire series for that on DVD.

Hi just seen the cover art work for the six Bond movies up for release on blu-ray later this year.

Interesting choices but one of them..Thunderball Connery's head looks like it has been cut out and stuck back the wrong way. This is the only one that looks bad..the others are ok.

Connery's head does look rather odd in that picture. Can't say I'm a fan of these covers in general.

The Thunderball cover looks dire. It is clearly a cut out head onto the body job. I'm not that excited about these covers.

Yes, all the images seem terribly bleached out.

Mind you, the For Your Eyes Only cover still looks quite tasty with Carole Bouquet.

the SPecial Editions DVD were ok. but the ultimate were pretty bad. Now theses are very amateurish...

I wish they'd just use the original posters as covers instead of these horrible photoshop images. If I recall correctly that's pretty much what the old VHS tapes used to have.

Connery's image in the cover of Dr.No looks very silly! There are so many pictures, why this?

Agreed, but I guess what really matters is what is on the inside of the case, not the outside.

Sure

I have to say, though, that considering that I've over the years bought these films on VHS and DVD already I don't need much reason to keep me from the bluray discs. The picture quality on the old Connery flicks had better be worth it!

Actually, I kinda like them. It would've been a million times better with original poster art... but this is still very stylish. Moore look great on the FYEO one.

I think the look okay. Mind you I'm not upgrading to Blu-ray until it becomes absolutely unavoidable, so it doesn't affect me much.

They look pretty darn fugly. Why or why won't they use original poster art?

Even though I now have a Blu-Ray player, I'm not going to rush out and get these. I have the UEs for the extras and I'll rent the Blu-rays from Netflix to watch. I've felt a little abused with how they've released the Bonds on DVD (holding back on a monster box until the end, etc.). Going to sit on my hands for now.

I'm glad they are releasing the Blu rays seperately so I can pick one up now and then when I have the extra cash instead of having to fork them over all at once.

Is it me, or does Roger look different in the "FYEO" cover? Something about his hair...he almost looks like Brosnan.

Shoddy beyond belief. I was one of the few who *quite* liked the UE covers. But these are just appalling.

Is that really the best pic of Sean they could find for the Thunderball cover? I mean, my God.

I really like those new covers...it's pretty basic actually.

Bond, Girls, Action. That's it!

And yeah, that photo from TB makes Connery looks like he's drunk or high.

Besides, the zillion different versions of Devil May Care that you've bought may have set you back a bit and emptied your bank account.
