I'm a cheap date, Jim. The equivalent of an all-you-can-eat-for-a-fiver buffet down Charing Cross Road.

Ah, rebirthed, long-suppressed memories of men paying me a fiver and trying to eat it all.

2) Is there any chance on earth that CraigBond could/would do a Jackal-style gay seduction?
There is more than a 'chance' that he could and would but the probabilities are that he won't.
I'm starting to quite enjoy this thread.
There's nothing like the thought of big, hot man meat to get the 'ole juices flowing, eh?

We can but hope

3) Has the series' tone on the subject been growing more realistic?
Only in the sense that depiction of gay characters/themes has become more realistic and mainstream in the media generally. So I guess we'll never see the likes of Wint and Kidd again. Personally, I feel that's a negative gain. It would be a mistake to assume Wint and Kidd are offensive. I happen to find them amusing.

You took the very words - or something - out of my mouth...

Alas, not just memories for me. These days, I even have to supply change for a fiver.

Man meat. Mouth. We know where you head is at...

Ergggh...that felt like a P+W, Brosnan-era moment.

To paraphrase, and improve upon, Shaw: Some dream of things that haven't been and say, 'Aw, dude, we can't go there!'. I dream of things that ought to be and say, 'Wouldn't that be friggin' awesome?'

Daniel Craig's beauty regime
Thursday, 17 April 2008
CELEBRITY SPOTLIGHT - Daniel Craig had a lorry load of fake tan and moisturiser delivered to the set of the new James Bond movie.
The 40-year-old actor is determined to look his best when he reprises his role as the suave British spy in 'Quantum of Solace' so has stocked up on beauty products.
A source said: "Daniel is the first meterosexual Bond and more than any other 007 he is attractive to both men and women. He knows he has to capitalise on his unisex appeal and had a lorry load of cosmetics delivered to his trailer.
"As well as fake tan, bronzer, eye cream, cleanser, toner and moisturiser, Daniel has been having regular manicures."
Daniel - who sent pulses racing when he donned a pair of tight blue swimming trunks in his first Bond movie 'Casino Royale' - has also employed several screen tricks to give him a more youthful complexion and toned appearance.
The insider added to Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "He regularly uses the gym on set but to maximise results, baby oil is a well-known trick to increase muscle definition.
"He uses eyedrops to make the whites of his eyes appear brighter and has been told to splash his face with ice-cold water before filming to close the pores and make him look younger

It's funny, though: some of the more longstanding CBners will remember that, in the pre-Craig era, Brosnan was often slammed as "metrosexual".... but Craig now makes him look like a caveman!

i think its just Daniel Craig trying to introduce something different after all he is a actor who wants to play every type of character, why Bond who knows probably just to shake things up a bit. To me Bond should always be after the women its ok for a villian to swing both ways. but Bond is fine the way he has always been. I like the way the movies are going but if they go too far with these ideas they mey lose viewers and that means bums on seats.

Listen, go look at Dr No, From Russia With Love and Goldfinger and you'll see Machismo Sean wearing lipstick, eyeliner and taning solutions. Let's not forget the hair piece. All in the name of tinsletown!
So, you old codgers, leave Daniel alone!
Yep, we've got CraigBond with his obsessive compulsive quest to remove every single last hair on his body, but we've also got ConneryBond often looking like a drag queen who's neglected to remove all his warpaint before going home to his wife.

First of all, I think we can all agree on that Bond is and will continue to be an icon of masculinity. It is often said that men want to be Bond and women want to be with Bond. The appeal of Bond to men has to do with the freedom he has. Sure, he has a job and a mission to achieve, but that doesn't stop him (actually, it encourages him) from bedding beautiful women, traveling around the world and killing people he doesn't like.2) Is there any chance on earth that CraigBond could/would do a Jackal-style gay seduction?
I think James Bond isn't particularly committed to his job (I haven't read the novels so I don't know if that is referenced to in them, hopefully somebody will fill me in on that; in the films there are references in OHMSS, TLD and CR), yet his job allows him to please his ego by doing the things I mentioned above. My point is that Bond seducing a man is so anti-Bond, so against what Bond stands for, that I can't see him doing it just for the sake of completing the mission. He usually cares more about himself than about the rest of the world, and I think that he would feel so strongly against that that he would refuse to do it without an extra motivation. That extra motivation could be revenge; with Bond's "emotional turmoil" after the events of Casino Royale I could see him seducing a man if that lead eventually to him getting his revenge. But, generally speaking, that would go against the spirit of the character. Thus, summing up, there is a chance that Craig's Bond could be shown to seduce a man in order to complete the mission (in the context of the events of Casino Royale), but it would go against the character if it happened under any other circumstances.
Let's also keep in mind that the Jackal is more of a professional than Bond, and is fully committed to his job. The only motivation he needs is the money he gets.
This, I think, is the logical side of things, but on a less rational and more emotional note, I don't like the idea of Bond seducing a man under any circumstances. Part of this probably has to do with the fact that I first saw a Bond film when I was five, and I've got such a clear idea of what Bond should be like that any major changes would strike me as awkward.
