Ack, objectivty! Tabloids broke the "story" that Winehouse was recording the theme song and I dismissed them because they were tabloids. Now the tabloids are reporting Winehouse and EON are chalk and cheese and I want to believe it ... damn you, objectivity! Damn you!Amy Winehouse is out!!! the producers won't touch her with a 10 foot pole now! One of the tabloid people asks her about the bond theme ... mid way through!

Not sure if this deserves it's own thread, but there's more in The Sun (therefore, pinch of salt required) today stating that Leona Lewis is apparently close to being announced.
I really hope not. Lewis is a competent singer with good management Stateside. But she is also bland beyond bland and hardly fits the tougher-edged mould forged by Chris Cornell and CASINO ROYALE.
Bring back The Durans.

I'm for Leona Lewis personally. She'd "Sheena Easton" it.
Also, she's untouched by other franchises unlike Beyonce - an Austin Powers and Pink Panther sloppy second.
Amy Winehouse? Love her music and she'd be good but a loose canon, somewhat.

But she looks cracking!

But I think Leona Lewis would be a sloppy first.
I'll readily say I was wrong, but there's something a bit Stock Aitken and Waterman* about Lewis.
[* They were an 1980's pop factory turning out *hit after *hit once their creativity had waned post Kylie Minogue.]
On that note....Kylie anyone?

This film really needs to be Goldfrapped.

Thanks Daddy O, I did not know about popular beat combo producers SAWmill. But she looks cracking!

Of course, I take your point. Leona Lewis is pure manufactured pop. But, she would do a song written for her and that would hopefully mean David Arnold and Don Black would get another chance to craft a great song that is also Bondian.
For me, it's rarely the artist.
It's the song!
Klytus, I'm bored with all these Bassey and Springfield wannabes.
This film really needs to be Goldfrapped.
LOL! But, Flash (aahh-ahaa), we've only 24 hours to save the Bond song!
Yup, Goldfrapp would be great.
But no-one would play it in America - a sad but important consideration!

She would be an incongruous and disastrous choice that would harm the image of the film.
Desperately uncool and naff.

But I'll judge the song, when it is finally released, on it's own merits.

Whatever they do with the title track, I hope that they get good artist to do the song, and one that isn't the prototypical Bond title track performer. I liked the fact that they went with someone different with Chris Cornell for the last film, I'd like to see that trend continue, either with another rock artist or perhaps by bringing in two artists to perform a duet.
I couldn't agree with this more. I can only hope the search extends beyond the local pop singer of the year.

I'd rather it was an instrumental played on spoons than have the dullard Lewis showboating her way through every vowel like a Luton Mariah.
LOL!

I'm with Shrublands and Skudor here. Desperately naff. Though Ace has a point about the song and not the singer. I'd rather it was an instrumental played on spoons than have the dullard Lewis showboating her way through every vowel like a Luton Mariah.
Quite. Amy Winehouse is edgy, controversial, dark and dangerous. Leona Lewis is the Simon Cowell-produced product de jour: perfectly adequate in her own way, but unremarkable, bland and safe. The former is perfect for a Daniel Craig Bond movie, the latter more suited to a Disney cartoon.
I know there are some who are wholly against Amy Winehouse being associated with the franchise (lest it sullies the clean-living, wholesome image of a hard drinking, hard smoking, hard sh*gging professonial assassin), but surely even they will accept that if Leona Lewis is selected, it will be a massive step backwards creatively for the series.

Oh c'mon, she can sing a little theme tune, won't bury the series. Hell, neither Glen or Brosnan managed to do that, doubt Winehouse and her baggage would register more than a blip.Klytus, I'm bored with all these Bassey and Springfield wannabes.
Water is leaking from my eyes as I read these posts defending Amy. It's a sign of my weakness; I care about the Bond series, and don't want to see Winehouse play with it before annihilation.
But I imagine they'll look elsewhere, the rumored dude/dame never gets the gig. There are just as good voices out there, and I suspect EON/Arnold don't quite want Winehouse's style for QOS anyway.

I am with you on that one. Though I found Chris Cornell a bit eighties power rock for me. Someone mentioned Goldfrapp, I know they were touted for Casino Royale but I still think a heavy contender. Didn't Portishead recently bring out a new album. Maybe. I still think rather than go with someone who will appeal to the american market go for someone who is right. All the time they try and second guess getting a hit they are onto a loser. Hell they took enough risks with Casino Royale in so many things and yet it paid off in spades. I am sure if they had listened to some studio exec we would have ended up with another DAD.I know there are some who are wholly against Amy Winehouse being associated with the franchise (lest it sullies the clean-living, wholesome image of a hard drinking, hard smoking, hard sh*gging professonial assassin), but surely even they will accept that if Leona Lewis is selected, it will be a massive step backwards creatively for the series.

He may well have been but it didn't come across in his Casino Royale theme. That's funny; Chris Cornell is best known for his work in the Seattle grunge scene with Soundgarden - especially 1994's brillian Superunknown - and the 2000-2005 period with Audioslave.

Indeed it didn't, although it was a collaberation with David Arnold. Cornell has mellowed since his Soundgarden days anyway, and so it was never going to sound like his 1992-1994 era work.

Amy Winehouse has emphysema... Apparently her doctors have warned her that if she continues smoking drugs, she won't only just ruin her voice, but she will also die! Man I am actually feeling really bad for her.. Nevermind whether her career is in jeopardy, this is now a life or death situation!! This is just sad!

Why do you feel bad for her? Do you know her personally?
He called on drug dealers to help her recovery by refusing to supply her with crack cocaine.
Ha! Unless the drug dealers are Winehouse fans, I doubt they're going to be willing to stop supplying her with drugs.
