I was just looking back at some old threads back when he was saying how xXx was going to make people forget the Bond films. Big words for somebody who didn't even make the sequel.
Remember that as well. The first film seemed to just overflow with disappointment in everything it attempted to accomplish.
Did anyone watch the second one? I mean ANYONE?
Still not warming to the Rock.

I'm all for 'Dwayne' as a henchman...come on, you'd get a great fight scene between him and Craig. Its a pity he wasn't around for the Rog era, because then they could have an eyebrow duel
Not only that, he was pretty darn good in The Rundown. He's clearly trying to lose the silly name in stages: we're now at Dwayne The Rock Johnson...soon to be modified to Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson...then Dwayne Johnson. But if Dan would feel more secure acting with a complete unknown...
Daniel Craig worked with Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, I think he's secure working with stars as well as unknowns.

As for The Rock... he's already down to Dwayne Johnson... that's how he's billed in Southland Tales (which just came out on DVD yesterday).

Riiiiiiiight. I'd like to see him do some of these things well, though, before I'd be happy to see him in Bond.He has? Where?you have to admit dude has shown range in his acting

So while I'm not that keen on the Rock being the main villain, throwing him a bone and letting him be a henchman just like his grandad would be pretty cool.

This type of "stunt-casting" is thankfully rare in Bond films. And when it does happen, it generally doesn't work, examples being AVTAK with Christopher Walken and Grace Jones (then arguably at the peak of her fame) and DAD with Halle Berry. The producers had tried it years before with Sammy Davis Jr in DAF, but thankfully cut it.
The one case where I think it worked, was Christoper Lee in TMWTGG.
The Rock is suffering from delusions of adequacy in the acting department....and thankfully doesn't know where I live....

Bond: "The name's Bond, James..."
The Rock: "It doesn't matter what your name is!"
He's going to lube that Sony Ericsson mobile phone up, turn that some-bitch sideways and stick it right up your candy

Not to be unkind, he was only starting out...but they both blew him out of the water. Right now I think he's doing fine and my comment--per the Happy Face--was meant as a joke.

I wasn't trying to be unkind, either. But he wasn't just starting out... he'd been acting in films for a decade, and I think he worked quite well with them (Hanks and Newman). He really made me hate his character for the weasel he was, so he did his job.
And yes, I did take your comment as a joke, I just thought I'd point out... oh, never mind.

He doesn't have much of a menacing voice, I'm afraid, so they'd have to dub him; perhaps with Jeremy Irons or Oded Fehr?Give the guy a chance. Perhaps he could pull it off.

Um, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie and Dame Judy are not exactly 'unknowns'. LOL. I think if you look beyond the USA, those three are more "known" than the former University Of Miami linebacker.
