I was just looking back at some old threads back when he was saying how xXx was going to make people forget the Bond films. Big words for somebody who didn't even make the sequel.

Remember that as well. The first film seemed to just overflow with disappointment in everything it attempted to accomplish.

Did anyone watch the second one? I mean ANYONE?

Still not warming to the Rock.

For all you nay-sayers to The Rock--Dwayne's got some Humble Pie for you, having signed for a remake of Disney's Escape to Witch Mountain!

I'm all for 'Dwayne' as a henchman...come on, you'd get a great fight scene between him and Craig. Its a pity he wasn't around for the Rog era, because then they could have an eyebrow duel

Not only that, he was pretty darn good in The Rundown. He's clearly trying to lose the silly name in stages: we're now at Dwayne The Rock Johnson...soon to be modified to Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson...then Dwayne Johnson. But if Dan would feel more secure acting with a complete unknown...:(

Daniel Craig worked with Tom Hanks and Paul Newman, I think he's secure working with stars as well as unknowns.

As for The Rock... he's already down to Dwayne Johnson... that's how he's billed in Southland Tales (which just came out on DVD yesterday).

Riiiiiiiight. I'd like to see him do some of these things well, though, before I'd be happy to see him in Bond.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that The Rock's grandfather, Peter Fanene Maivia, played the car driver in YOLT that eventually has an awesome fight scene with Bond in the Osato building. Supposedly he helped choreograph a few of the YOLT fights as well.

(bottom)

So while I'm not that keen on the Rock being the main villain, throwing him a bone and letting him be a henchman just like his grandad would be pretty cool.

Big names brought in to established movie series do not work, generally. Look at what happened to the Batman films in the mid '90s. The Joel Scumacher films buckled under the weight of the stars shoehorned into them. Batman Forever had Jim Carrey and an under-used Tommy-Lee Jones , but then Batman and Robin threw in Uma Thurman and Arnie, was dreadful and the series nosedived, primarily because the stars became bigger than the film itself.

This type of "stunt-casting" is thankfully rare in Bond films. And when it does happen, it generally doesn't work, examples being AVTAK with Christopher Walken and Grace Jones (then arguably at the peak of her fame) and DAD with Halle Berry. The producers had tried it years before with Sammy Davis Jr in DAF, but thankfully cut it.

The one case where I think it worked, was Christoper Lee in TMWTGG.

The Rock is suffering from delusions of adequacy in the acting department....and thankfully doesn't know where I live....

I wouldn't say Walken was stunt casting. Jones, maybe.

The Rock: "How dare you, little jabroni, come on the Rock's yacht and not even have the class to introduce yourself. What is your name?"

Bond: "The name's Bond, James..."

The Rock: "It doesn't matter what your name is!"

He's going to lube that Sony Ericsson mobile phone up, turn that some-bitch sideways and stick it right up your candy [censored].

Sorry, I'm having a Rock moment.

Saying you want to be the next Bond villain sounds like one of the few things he could have said to get some quick press. Besides, shouldn't he be hard at work negotiating his contract on the sequel for The Game Plan?

Not to be unkind, he was only starting out...but they both blew him out of the water. Right now I think he's doing fine and my comment--per the Happy Face--was meant as a joke.

I wasn't trying to be unkind, either. But he wasn't just starting out... he'd been acting in films for a decade, and I think he worked quite well with them (Hanks and Newman). He really made me hate his character for the weasel he was, so he did his job.

And yes, I did take your comment as a joke, I just thought I'd point out... oh, never mind.

He doesn't have much of a menacing voice, I'm afraid, so they'd have to dub him; perhaps with Jeremy Irons or Oded Fehr?

Um, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie and Dame Judy are not exactly 'unknowns'. LOL. I think if you look beyond the USA, those three are more "known" than the former University Of Miami linebacker.

I'm sure lots of people want to be in a Bond film, it's not exactly shocking news. Let's hope he is kept well clear of these films.

It'll be Hulk Hogan next...

Dwayne Johnson, please, is looking pretty decent in the trailer for Get Smart. The guy, by all accounts I've seen, is articulate, funny, smart. And we all know he's athletic as hell. His game plan appears to be working--graduating from the ridiculous ring name and getting the best roles he can. If he lets his hair grow out a bit, trims down a little bit more and gets himself a new agent and some really decent roles...Dwayne baby may rock our worlds. And maybe he'll also rock Bond.

And, wipe those smiles of your feces--I mean, off your faces!--I'm absolutely serious.

I can see him as a second hand henchman for like a drug lord or something along those lines i don't know if i could see him as a main villian tho. that would make it another DAD almost on depending on what the story is about. lol

The Rock vs Craig would be an awesome fight scene, and you all know it! I'd like to see Craig in one of those "How's he gonna beat THIS guy?!" fight scenes like Connery vs Oddjob and Rog vs Jaws (though with less camp). Dwayne could be just the man for that kind of job.
