It's a shame that this appears to not be at all true. Oh well, it was great fun speculating about it while it lasted. Hopefully Mr. Pacino will make an appearance in a future Bond film somewhere down the line.

Personally I never believed this rumour at all (or wanted it to be true). I can't remember the last time I saw Pacino in something that wasn't just the same ole cliche 'Pacino' role.

Is Al Pacino playing the head of the organisation?

Either way, expect to see it in the tabloids very soon!

[censored] Noooo!

What a terrible idea. What a horrible, terrible, unspeakable idea.

The last thing we need (or, indeed, should want) is to have The New Golden Era be tainted with a 'knowing', self-aware "cameo" by a Hollywood 'star' or tabloid type. [censored] that! No [censored]ing way!!!

What a [censored]y, awful, terrible, sick idea!

PS
...Keep the Pachinos, Slys, Tarantinos, Madonnas, Halle Berrys and other over-hyped tabloid fodder-types from taking away the spotlight from where it ought to be.

We didn't need them in Casino Royale and we certainly don't need them now...

No Pachino?

YEAHHHHH!

Just woke up! The nightmare is over! PHEW!

Pacino couldn't give a non-loutish, non-eye-poppy, non-foul-mouthed performance if you tied him to a cane chair with no bottom and broke out the carpet beater. Pacino is a cliche, and I share your relief at the fact that this was all baloney from the get-go.

Well, now that that's all over, let's make some educated guesses at who will really play the "Big Boss"!

My money's on Bruno Ganz; anyone else?

For the Pacino bashers, try Insomnia or The Insider. But only, of course, if you're interested in facts.

Addenda:
Merchant of Venice

And in pre or post-production:
88
Rififi
12-Rounds
Righteous Kill (w/DeNiro)

The last four listed sound worth a look...and none seems to reflect the presence of an ancient hack or cliche. Al stumbles now and then, but still rocks.

I'm quite a fan of S1m0ne. It's a dark satire with a great - and uncharacteristic - performance by Pacino.

Agreed. S1m0ne featured a great performance by Pacino, as did Insomnia, and from the little I've seen of The Insider, Pacino was good in that as well. I think that he would have made a fantastic Bond villain, especially if played in a more understated way such as in Insomnia. Hopefully EON will be able to get him in a future Bond film.
