No, it was just some rubbish the newspapers made up. According to them, Edward Woodward was going to play 'M' in it, as well.

One of my favourite rumours of the past was in the Daily Express about TWINE, where they reported
1) Bond will spend time on the psychiatrist's couch, to analyse why he is, the way he is
2) Q will be killed by an explosion at MI6 headquarters. They said "We know Q will definitely die, because we've seen them filming the funeral"
Mind you, they got their bit about M being kidnapped correct.

From the bare facts, you can see how they made this mistake I guess. Rumours of it being Desmond Llewellyn's final Bond movie (ultimately true); an explosion at MI6 Headquarters; and a funeral scene filmed attended by Bond, M, Moneypenny and Robinson!Q will be killed by an explosion at MI6 headquarters. They said "We know Q will definitely die, because we've seen them filming the funeral"

Yes, true, but they were so sure it was Q. It was funny.

BTW, the man who just interviewed Daniel Craig for rottentomatoes (which gave CR a 93 out of 100 in late 2006) says this:
