The Hollywood Reporter makes no mention of the plot. THR is where I turn now for responsible fact-checked showbiz reporting.

http://www.hollywood...491a83220?imw=Y

Great news. The drug smuggling plot has been done several times in past Bond films (LALD, FYEO, LTK), and I think that it would be best if the Bond franchise started exploring new ideas rather than going back to things that have already been done before.

Hold on a minute...are you reading the same article I read? Where does it say that the movie is NOT about drug smuggling.

The THR article is not refuting the Variety article, it's just reporting this same news without the plot info...which is a pretty clear indication that the plot info contained in Variety was trolled off the net and did not come via the official sources for the Gemma news (Sony, Eon, and her agent -- as cited in the THR piece). This makes the plot info less credible.

Could this be the part of the story Haggis said they threw out? So it was true a year ago, but has changed since then?

Doubt it. Even P&W said their draft wasn't based on RISICO or any such thing.

Yeah. Thankfully, the plot details are seemingly untrue from all quarters. So nothing to worry about.

Nobody's said that the plot doesn't concern drug smuggling, though, have they?

They've only said that it's not based on Risico.

No.

Bond Girl info came from an Eon press release. Variety didn't really "get" anything in that regard.

Hmm...we've seen photos of Bond and M on the streets of London, in front of some kind of block of flats/apartments. A stretch perhaps, but maybe this ties in with the heroin flooding Britain thing. I say they're at those flats because Mr.White, who had been stashed in an MI6 safehouse in that building, has been found dead of an overdose (administered by someone else). You heard it here first! ( :D )

Yes, it could be that it IS about heroin flooding Britain, and some journalist assumed it must therefore be based on Risico.

It's unlikely that it's based on any inside information, whatsoever, given that this rumor is word-for-word reguritated from a bogus report from The Sun circa December 2006.

I really like the idea of human trafficking. If not to be included in Bond 22, it is something that really should be considered for a future Bond film.

I don't really see any major problem with drug smuggling as a plot point. Sure it's been done before, but it's also something that the nameless organisation could very well be involved in (at least on the money laundering side). It doesn't mean it needs to be all about smuggling drugs (oil tankers and coke grinders included).

Doesn't seeem to be the most plausible of new anyway.

Drug Smuggling? Ol' Danny boy bringing in some of the Layer Cake story?

Busted, James Bond is also a drug dealer inside the narrow corridors of that Lego building in Vauxhall Cross.

I agree. It's one area of worldwide crime that hasn't really been touched so far.

Why would an MI6 agent investigate the smuggling of such goods as drugs or diamonds into the U.K., in the first place? Isn't that something for Interpol or Scotland Yard?

Maybe Bond investigates the bootleg DVD market? In an homage to "Spaceballs" Bond discovers Mr. White trying to sell copies of Bond 22 before they're finished filming it.

Personally I'd like to see art forgery/art theft tied into a future plot. Paintings to be specific.
