I have a post card of the cover and I'm really excited for the release because I do not own a copy of Blast From the Past so it will be a chance to read it.

I'm definitely looking forward to the full version of that one.

Wonder what novels they'll choose for the 2009 omnibus if that keeps going forward.

Whatever they choose hopefully they put in Live at Five in also.

I'd imagine it would be Benson's other three original James Bond novels (maybe plus the short stories). There's nothing else it could be, short of the Gardners and Benson's novelisations.

Yeah, I was specifically thinking about whether it'd be more focused on the three remaining novels or the three novelizations.

...suppose the novels would seem to be the more popular choice.

I can't believe it will be anything other than the remaining three novels and, hopefully, the short stories--including (fingers crossed) The Heart Of Erzulie. As for the possibility of the novelizations, I have to say that I've never seen a novelization republished unless it had originally been published as a hardback and the new version is a paperback, which is not a scenario that would happen in this case.

Ah, that'd be a good idea. Would pick up the collection for that alone.

Got my book. Looks great. One thing, there is a pretty significant NDOD spoiler in Raymond's introduction, so beware if you haven't read the book yet.

Just arrived today. It always amazing how much bigger these collections are than one expects (even though one should expect that since it's three books!).

Really looking forward to the uncut “Blast from the Past”.

Read Blast from the Past this morning. It's a very solid James Bond short story, very enjoyable. I realized I haven't read it since it was first published (11 years ago!) so I had really forgotten much of it. I couldn't really tell what was expanded, except for the opening tryst with May's daughter. The trip to the bank also felt all new to me for some reason, but that must have been there? I do think it's my favorite of the Benson shorts. Good stuff.

Great news! I ordered this offline, but was pleased to see some local Borders stores were stocking some copies of it.

That is great news. It can only better the odds of them printing the second omnibus. :(

I have never read Bensons Bond books before and have just purchased The Union Trilogy. But I didnt know that there were later novels.

Should I start at the Begining with Raymonds Bond books or dive in to the Union Trilogy? Do they have continuity through all his novels?

I think the Union Trilogy should be read in order but I think the series does develop and grow. I would try to read them in order.

The Novels
1 Zero Minus Ten 1997
2 The Facts Of Death 1998
3 High Time To Kill 1999
4 Doubleshot 2000
5 Never Dream Of Dying 2001
6 The Man With The Red Tattoo 2002

The Short Stories
a Blast From The Past 1997
b Midsummer Night's Doom 1999
c Live At Five 1999

The Union Trilogy collection is excellent (his best sequence of books, IMO) as is Raymond Benson's essay introducing the books. Blast From The Past is the full version, not the edited Playboy version. It works much better, IMO. The whole thing is worth getting for litBond fans.

Thanks Ace. Ill take your advice and start at the very begining. The union trilogy will be shelfed for now while i source his first two. Got to do it right.

Other than this new edition being hardcover, are there any other changes from the original edition?

I picked one of these up today. It's in the Bargain Book section, so that explains the ultra low price. It's very nice. This book is so big, it just works better as a hardcover, I think. Really hoping we'll see a Choice of Weapons hardcover as well.

i talked my sister into ordering some stuff from barnes and noble, she ending up spending over $100, so i had her add the union trilogy to the order so that i dont have to pay for shipping on it. look forward to reading these since i have finished the young bond books and would like something different to read.

This is one case where it's actually cheaper to buy in-store. Not just because of shipping, but BN.com charges tax (at least in CA).
