What the hell's this thread doing here?

I'm sure Pierce Brosnan was in a couple or so of Bond films, no? Forgive me....

It was originally in another forum, they moved it to the Brosnan forum. That post was before the move.

I hate musicals but I will see this. It so cool to have Pierce Brosnan and Stellan Skarsgård in the same movie. Skarsgård once played the swedish agent Carl Hamilton in two films - he is our James Bond

I'll be sure to see it too. The rabid Brozza bashing ended up turning me into a fan. Hey, he can't do any worse singing than Con did with an Irish accent, right?

Brosnan's singing will be the least of this movie's problems.

Well, Brosnan was just ok. But, Streep, Baranski, and Walters........all I can say is wtf!

I know, Zorin. Dodgy!

Barbara Walters is in the movie?!!!!!! When the hell did this happen--and she can really SING?

Poor Brozza. Just okay...? I'd hoped this would be his vindication for having been denied, by a cruel trick of Time, the chance to show Big Tam what a real Mick could do with the role of Mallone in The Untouchables. Tears and sadness.

I've just seen the trailer. Is it a joke...or does La Streep really sing as horribly as that? It seems to be I'd read somewhere that she actually studied singing--if so, I can only hope her teacher's i.d. remains a secret. Poor, poor Brozza...

Couldn't get the link to work. But hearing Broz sing in Korean is a pleasure I'd just as soon pass on. I'll wait for the movie, hoping he warbles better than Streep. God, the trailer makes me cringe.

The trailer makes me cringe too. However, I've only heard good things about this movie in reviews so far... Do you think I'm reading the wrong papers or will this be a surprise success?

Pierce Brosnan swaps James Bond for ABBA

Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan has told the BBC how he risked ridicule to appear in Abba film musical Mamma Mia.

"All of us put our neck out on the line for this," he told BBC Breakfast. "That was what was so much fun about it."

The 55-year-old stars with Meryl Streep and Colin Firth in the film, which sees him and his fellow actors perform such Abba classics as SOS and Waterloo.

"It was the last thing I expected to be offered," said the actor, who played secret agent 007 in four Bond films.

"To see an ex-MI6 thespian singing and dancing in the world of Mamma Mia... people are going to howl."

Funeral

Adapted from the hit stage musical, Mamma Mia tells of a young bride-to-be who invites three men, one of whom she believes to be her father, to her wedding in Greece.

Meryl Streep plays the female lead in the exuberant musical
Streep plays her mother, whose holiday romance with Brosnan's character is re-ignited as a result of her daughter's ruse.

The actor revealed he was offered the role while preparing to bury his late father.

"My dad has just died so I was over at my mum's house organising the funeral," he said.

"The phone went, it was my agent; he said Mamma Mia, Meryl Streep, Greece.

"I said great - I'm in. I didn't even ask how much."

'Ghosts'

Shooting the movie at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire gave Brosnan the chance to return to where he shot his four Bond films between 1995 and 2002.

"The first day at work I walked through those gates kicking ghosts out of the way left, right and centre," he said.

"I thought, what a glorious way to come back to this place that was my home, happily so, for many years on James Bond."

Mamma Mia, which has its world premiere in London's West End later, will be released in the UK on 10 July.

Live interview with Pierce Brosnan at the MAMMA MIA! premiere currently on Sky News. He's certainly sounding increasingly American these days!

Actually I think this will do just under Sex and The City money. I'm thinking that's their target audience. For Brozza's sake, I hope it does well. But the trailer makes me cringe. I have a pet peeve about people singing songs I love and not being the original singer. There are exceptions I enjoy a great deal, however this movie isn't one of them. And maybe it's my tv but it sure seems like they've turned down the actor/actress's voice and pumped up the backing music and backing singers.

One day (after he has retired from MI6) we will see DC in Cats- the Musical.
Till that time we laugh at Brozza for trying to go Bollywood...This might be Zardoz for him.I saw the trailer on the big screen when I saw WallE. And it was painful. Even wifey didnt want to see this one. If it is a hit, everyone will go gaga on Meryl, and if it fails then people will laugh at Brozza. He deserves better.
What about Remington Steele the movie? With McG as the director so that Remington can do WireFu...

Well said. For Brozza's sake I'm hoping...but the very sight of Streepy cannonballing into the deep like a child or bonding with her girlies makes my stomach heave. There's so little I like about her when she sings I may give mere contempt a bad name.

I love Pierce. I love Abba. But I don't want to see those two worlds mix. I fear both might be diminished.
