It's pretty bad. Connery doesn't look so hot, either, which doesn't help. And after all the relatively bloodless deaths in the series before(and after) DAF, I'm always oddly disturbed by what a bloody mess that "mousetrap" makes of the thug's fingers when he pulls it out of Bond's jacket. Heck, even Fekkesh and Kalba didn't bleed that much when Jaws bit through their jugulars.

DAF begins a string of weak pre-titles, continuing on with LALD and TMWTGG, neither of which feature James Bond at all!

You know, I may have to agree here. The parts that stick out to me as being particularly lame can be chalked up to several things:

- BAD audio synch (Anyone guess where?).
- Bad actors doing death scenes (the guy who gets 3 scalpels in him)
- Horrible fight choreography. (Great thrust, Blofeld, especially the part where you hold your arm outstretched after you've been tied down.)
- Economy plotting (the globetrotting sequence).

Those are the biggies.

I love how this movie's sound was nominated for an Oscar when the first line spoken on-camera has been obviously dubbed and isn't synchronized! :cooltongue:

Why does the patient have a gun in a mudbath and a revolver at that?

Well, if it's anything like the spa I went to, they don't allow automatics in the mud bath.

Agreed. The editing in total doesn't do it any justice in total.

I was thinking more of the revolver has a lot more moving parts than a Walther, semi or an automatic so the mud would make it useless. Not that a Walther, a semi or an automatic would even work if filled with mud though which I doubt.

To explain the gun in the mud: Ever since the Thunderball incident, spies (and those who are commonly spied upon) have become more wary in spas.

(that's my theory anyway)

Now it's time to explain how Blofeld, a fighting fireball in OHMSS, became a wooden weakling who attacked Bond like a college freshman in a stage combat class.

Well, it wasn't the real Blofeld, was it? Maybe this stand-in was just a really lame fighter.

On the other hand, the "real" Blofeld takes to wearing a dress in this film, so obviously something interesting has happened since OHMSS.

Ah yes...maybe Blofeld used a tall foppish teenager with no fighting experience to double him, and thus...well, it really does fit like a glove. Good call, David_M. :cooltongue:

I may be a little biased here, because I like DAF so much, but I think the PTS is actually decent. Its definitivly better than say YOLT, LALD or LTK.

And I love Bond's line: "I shan't ask you politely next time." Poor guy!

Really? Even if I absolutely loved DAF (which I don't particularly) this is still one piece of poor film making on virtually every level. What about it, what elements work for you?

Actually, I find the entire DAF movie to be a mess. Probably the worse Bond movie, in my opinion. The only thing that saved it for me was the humor.

Don't you think this would make a great Mystery Science Theater pick?

LOL! Yes, it is pretty bad. Blofeld could easily have grabbed the knife and attacked Bond from behind while he was busy with the second guard. Instead he politely waits until Bond is finished, holds the knife out in an attempt to look menacing, and then lunges about two feet to the right of Bond, conveniently putting himself on a gurney with a nice overhead lamp for Bond to bonk him on the head with. ALTHOUGH of course this is not the 'real' Blofeld, so perhaps he hasn't had his SPECTRE combat training yet.
Anyway, worst PTS ever? No. LALD is just a dull, tv-movie style opening, and I find LTK's start to be pretty bad.

DAF's PTS is definitely up there and battling to be the worst, but FYEO's has always bothered me the most.

The brief but very intensive fight scenes ("Cai-Cai-Cairo"! "Hit me!"). Bond's introduction to Marie. Bond's dialogue ("I shan't ask you politely next time","speak up, darling!"), Barry's music, atmosphere when Bond is left alone with the mud-man, Bond's final line and transition to titles.

Its not my favourite PTS but it's far from being the worst.

I happen to hate the delivery of that "Cai-Cai-Cairo" line but that may be a matter of opinion! It just seems a very disjointed pre-title sequence to me, as if it's been cobbled together over a coffee break. I think that the main aspect that is disappointing for many is that it robs us of a genuinely tough search for Blofeld after the events of ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. It glosses over the global search for revenge slightly in my opinion. (Plus it's pretty poorly put together nonetheless!)

The PTS is alright but nothing special. I always thought the Cairo part was funny I was like what a load of sh sh [censored]. The fighting is really fake however and I can see it in every movie because I've taken acting classes and stage combat classes. for instance in CR when Bond smashes fisher's head over the toilet its clear he just swung his arm above him. I think 3 things that save DAF's PTS are Bond throwing the man through a PAPER door, the bra choking thing, and welcome to hell blofeld. But sadly both OHMSS and DAF have the fakest fighting scene's in my opinon.
