Did you know Robert Davi is an almnus of Hofstra? So is Christopher Walken! Only one of these illustrious Bond villains appeared at the Bond Symposium I attended yesterday.
Hempstead, Long Island is less than an hour and a half from home, and I was within two miles of the place when I got lost. Really hopelessly lost. Lost like, 45 minutes late. And I wasn

I had a great time there, even if my presentation on Bond fan films went a little kaflooey--my voice was destroyed by a cold and the IT people screwed up my computer, which led to a weird first 5 minutes, but it all ended up running smoothly in the end.
One of the best parts was an unannounced presentation by the head of UA marketing, who worked on marketing the first 10 Bond flicks. Unfortunately, I could barely hear him because he'd brought a friend--a UA poster designer--with him, and someone kept badgering the old designer for sketches during the entire presentation. I could barely hear a thing from the two talking so loudly. What I did pick up was great though--stories about the first publicity campaign with Connery and how they told him he had to "be Bond" for the press for the next few months, etc. Great, enlightening, "you are there" stuff.
The writers panel was fun too--wish I could have stayed for the screenwriting teleconference, but I had to split. Overall, a fun two days though!

I overheard the reporter from Newsday saying that his wrap-up article on the conference would run on Monday...

Dinner with Raymond Benson. Incredibly nice guy with incredible stories. He is both humble and generous and his fame has not tainted this man in any way.
Meeting and listening to stories from Robert Davi. Sanchez aside this is a warm hearted man who truly loves his fans.
Clive Young's discussion about amateur fan films. Clive is hysterical and his material was well thought out. I still owe you an interview, Clive.
Lois Gresh, author of the Science of James Bond. I shared a panel with her and she is a genuin fan and again was one of those pleasant individuals that you want to spend more time with.
The looks on the faces of some of the younger crowd when the case of gadgets were shown. Made the trip worth it.
It was also great meeting new friends and old ones including the Ian Fleming Foundation gents, Donald Grant, and of course hanging out with The Spy Boys Ed Maggiani. Here are a few pics ofme pretending to "teach" and other goodies.
