A new song by Green Day is kinda growing on me as a Bond song candidate...

21 GUNS

Do you know what's worth fighting for
When it's not worth dying for?
Does it take you breath away
And you feel yourself suffocating?
Does the pain weight out the pride?
And you look for a place to hide?
Does someone break your heart inside?
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky
You and I

When you're at the end of the road
And you lost all sense of control
And your thoughts have taken their toll
When your mind breaks the spirit of your soul
Your faith walks on broken glass
And the hangover doesn't pass
Nothing's ever built to last
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky
You and I

Did you try to live on your own
When you burned down the house and home?
Did you stand too close to the fire?
Like a liar looking for forgiveness from a stone

When it's time to live and let die
And you can't get another try
Something inside this heart has died
You're in ruins

One, 21 guns
Lay down your arms
Give up the fight
One, 21 guns
Throw up your arms into the sky
You and I

I stumbled across a Belgian band named Hooverphonic a few years ago and think they'd be a fabulous choice for a Bond theme.

Check out one of their songs:

I like Greenday, but 21 guns has no Bond feeling at all.

That Hooverphonic is nice.

This one is interesting. If you just listen to the music, and completely ignore the lyrics. I get a really Bondish vibe from this one, It actually reminds me of Tomorrow Never Dies.

I was listening to Way Back Home earlier today and the music, not so much the lyrics, sounded like it could've been a more recent (Craig era) Bond theme to me. I'll see if I can't find a link elsewhere, as it does not appear to be on Youtube. Although, upon listening to it again now, were DAD to have been played more like the first parts of the film straight across the board (i.e. darker than normal Brosnan, and a fair number of past Bond films), I could see it working, lyrics and all, for Die Another Day. Not perfectly, but I think it could work. And, of course, if we were given a better title sequence than just flashes of nude women of fire and ice over Brosnan being tortured; something more like a CR title-style depiction of the torture. Found it on imeem.

This might be odd to some, but I've always found Frank Sinatra's "L.A. Is My Lady" sound pretty Bond-ish.

I heard this on the radio today, traveling to college. It's not a Bondish song as such, but there is a really cool Bond theme near the end.

Recently I'm thinking that Florence & the Machine could work for Bond. Suddenly her Drumming Song and her cover of You've Got the Love sound to me like they could work with a Bond film.

Hi, first time poster here.

Morrissey's song "Ambitious Outsiders" from his 1997 Maladjusted album is very Bondish in parts - there's an instrumental end section that is very very similar to parts of the Goldeneye soundtrack IMO.

"Bond-ish" is not what gets a singer the gig. Was Cornell, White, Keys, Madonna, Crow, Duran Duran, Rita Coolidge or Sheena Easton "Bond-ish" pre Bond...?

The great Bruce Springsteen's "Life Itself" would make for a very interesting Bond title song. Have a listen and let me know what you think...

This new Katie Melua song sounds the most Bondish I've heard for a while. It's got that old school, dramatic, dark and moody Barry vibe, while at the same time managing to sound current. I love the opening line, "Broken people get recycled." Very Bond.

Love this. Very bond sounding but in a less obvious way. Katie Melua is spot on imo and I could listen to her all day.

I just happened to rummage through my CDs, listening to the odd piece, and came across Foo Fighters' "Echos, Silence..." and so on. Listening to the first track, The Pretender, I thought the intro had a familiar feel about it. In fact there seems to run a recurring Bond streak through the whole track and the lyrics also have a slightly mysterious note about them, what with all the "keep you in the dark, the secrets that you keep, send in your skeletons" and all that.

Hear for yourself:

A few other CB.n forum members already agree with me: ;)

Adele.

Seconded!

I think Adele is the best out there right now. Her talent is so far-out she simply doesn't need to dress and act like a skank whore to sell records. The current charts show how amazing her music is. She puts 100% heart and soul into every single song, she could do a Bond title....easily. :)

Adele:

Not sure if you guys down-under got to see the recent Brit Awards held here in London but arguably the performance of the night came from Adele signing 'Someone Like You"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZtUjFJvYkA

Compared to other acts that night who relied on gimmicks and controversy to enhance their performance Adele proved all you need is a decent pianist, a great song and a voice to rival Dusty Springfield.

Adele

Ok, Adele.

Hey guys,

sorry for pulling out that old thread: Today I saw an old french Spy parodie called "Le retour du grand blond" (1974). The piece of music, when "the agent" arrives in Paris contains a lot of bond music, i.e. from Goldfinger's "Bond back in action again", combined withe the movie's main theme. The track is called "Blackfinger", composed by Vladimir Cosma. I found it on YT (unfortunately as background music for a russian kids home movie - but in full length). The original is available as commercial download on various platforms. You may like it !

Enjoy !

Lyrically not very Bond, but I think there's something there melodically. I think Gary Barlow can do a very good job with a Bond title song.

Just heard a new one from Kaiser Chiefs called Listen To Your Head which had the whiff of a Bond theme's attitude to it to me.

I agree Caro Emerald is fantastic. I actually discovered her through CBn. Her music video for "That Man" was posted here as it has an homage to Dr. No's opening titles. I watched some of her other videos and completely fell in love with her sound and retro style. Would love to see her tackle an actual Bond song.

This song could very well be about James Bond himself.

From "At Close Range". I saw that film in first release. 26 years ago. Where in the f[censored]ck does the time go?
