Do we know what size this will be? Huge like 'The Legacy'?... Or perhaps like 'The Secret World' as that was also by DK?...

It's not that huge, but it's big.

I flipped through the galleys at Comic Con (they just had raw pages clipped together). Looked pretty nice. Very DK style with loads of pics.

I'm pretty interested in what these new pics will be (even if, according to the report, there won't be that many). There must be tons out there if they keep finding some new ones.

How were the pictures laid out?

In a collage format, or do the pictures have room to breathe?

Just a few more days now. Shame that the US edition isn't also out on 6 September.

Maybe I'm just a photo Nazi, but I'm disappointed with the photo content of the JBE. I want photos I've never seen! Of course, I'm basing my opinion entirely on the small selection of pages at Penguin Australia or wherever so maybe their will be more gems in there.

It's a fun book filled with pictures but for the general movie buff rather than the die-hard fan. Nice photos and interesting, alphabetical entries. Imagine a less complete but photographically glossier version of the Steve Jay Rubin encyclopedia. It's definitely worth a look.

I've preordered the book. looking forward to it.

I really wish though they would put out more text and information about the making of the films.

a good story would be The man With the Golden Gun, comparing the script and the differences of how they filmed thing. The clash between the writers and director on that one!

I think that would make interesting reading and be different from a lot of the Bond books that they put out that are a lot of the same without a lot of detail each time.

Someone needs to make books for the fans! : )

I get a bit frustrated having to get another book with outlines of the films and what each films is about...

WE KNOW ALREADY!! Tell us the stories behind the scenes and some of the interesting stories about decisions, clashes, etc. Now That, would be an interesting book!

I'm hoping to pick up The Battle For Bond soon. Is this more of what I'm looking for?

thanks!

So, I'm looking for some reference material for the Bond Movies... is the Encyclopedia with it's information on the new Bond film Casino Royale the way to go, or is the James Bond Legacy preferable? Is there enough detail in the newer edition for those of us who don't need to know everything about every movie, just the facts as pertaining to characters, plots etc?

Cheers appreciated,

Capt

Although I've yet to pick up this new encyclopedia, one can rarely go wrong with James Bond: The Legacy.

Does anyone have the encyclopedia yet? I'd love to hear their thoughts on it.

Is there any inclusion of deleted scene photos? Maybe new ones, previously not in book form?

The photographic material is really good. Yes, there are shots of deleted scenes, behind the scenes and never published shots. Can't describe everything but get the book. I think it is very good. It is a fun book for a more general filmgoer - a civilian - but there's stuff for the hardcore, certified Bond nutter, er, i.e. me!

I too have the book much to my regret, it is exactly as I feared. It reminds me of an annual for kids. Describing characters, villains, gadgets etc, that we as Bond fans know inside out. Nothing new. You get the feeling the authors never left the room to write it. They just looked up a few previous books and watched the films. Terrible cut and paste job. Rubin

Mark - So John Cork's involvement doesn't help the book this time? Really disappointing! I'll still end up getting it for all the pictures it contains. Very disappointing from the sounds of your review.

Eon really needs to assemble a book that is something different and has all of the behind the scenes info, etc. Something that doesn't just tell us things we already know. Like the story lines for the films, etc.

I would include interviews with the directors and writers. Actors, if they have anything to say as well. I would tell about why decisions were made to make the particular film. Also why decisions were made to change things from the Fleming books when translated to films.

I would also like to hear about deleted scenes or scenes changed during filming, etc.

I would also be interested to hear about the music for the films. What Barry's ideas were for each one. Who was considered and did demos for them songs and also how the final artist was chosen.

Information on the marketing of the films would be great too. What was done, TV, film, radio, etc. Also being able to see all of the different artwork used to promote the film. Perhaps something different would be newspaper ads? I believe for The Spy WHo Loved Me, 40 or so cities had unique art given to them by the filmmakers. Also, in the promotion section could be all of the special events and premieres that were done to promote the film.

What else?

I endorse all your suggestions. Not to make it too voluminous, but how about appendices with a sampling of call sheets and storyboards?

I agree totally with all of the above. Believe me John Cork's book does nothing. It describes what each character's role in the film is, which can be gleaned from just watching them, also names the actor, then nothing else. The gadgets it just describes their function in the film. As if we didn't know! The Biography's of Connery, Lazenby etc we have read many times and add nothing new. Come on EON with this and last years

I picked up the book today and I think it's fantastic. Visually it's the best James Bond reference book I've seen. So many wonderful photos. Every entry has a photo and even obscure characters have entries. Quite a few characters names I've never even seen before becasue they were either not mentioned or are easily overlooked in the film.

Sure a lot of it is stuff I already know but it's great to have it all in one place that's easy to go through and find what your looking for.

I see this easily replacing "The Essential Bood" as my handy quick reference book. I love it.

Fantastic report Gobi. Good to hear something on this one.

I have 3 questions.

How is the content on each individual film handled?
Any photos that you have not seen before?
How is the content on Lazenby, Dalton and even Craig?
