Was only a matter of time for this rumour to pop up once again...

Sean Connery Would Come Out of Retirement For Juicy James Bond Role

Sean Connery wants to come out of acting retirement to play James Bond's father in the next 007 film. The 76-year-old has been "resting" since making 2003 film The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but reveals he would jump at the chance to return to the superspy franchise - if producers can afford him.

Connery says, "I am resting from acting. So you could say I'm retired. It would have to be something really considerable to bring me back. It would have to be an offer that you can't refuse. If there was a good part in a Bond film, I'd certainly look at it. I would never return as James Bond. If the part was well written, I could come back as Bond's father but it would cost them. It would definitely cost them."

The actor reveals he quit at Bond because of the overuse of gadgets - and his disappointing salary as the secret agent.

He adds, "I was getting disenchanted. Apart from the payment, which was puerile, they were bringing in a lit of science fiction stuff, like the poisonous shoe in From Russia With Love. They had all these gizmos, which today are commonplace, that I didn't mind, but when you get into the nuclear stuff..."

Why would Connery want to play the role of a dead guy? "Resting from acting" indeed.

Ah, right on time. The rumor mill for an upcoming Bond film doesn't officially begin until we get the "Connery as Bond's Dad/M/the villain" rumor, soon to be followed by the requisite "Angelina Jolie for Bond girl" story.

No..Just plain no!! I am MUCH more interested in seeing Connery back as Dr. Henry Jones in Indiana Jones 4.. Hope Spielburg and Lucas do their best at coaxing Sean to come back!!

I wouldn't mind seeing it happen actually. Sorry, but I would lol. I wouldn't want him appearing in more than two or three scenes though.

I doubt it will happen because EON are hardly going to respond positively to comments like "It would cost them". If he offered his services for free I think they'd consider a part for him, if only for marketing purposes.

Once upon a time Connery hated Bond, He hated playing Juan Sanchez Villa Lobos Remerez, is there a role he does love and would like to reprise without bickering about the money or sci fi elements?

If he could come back, let him come back as a villian, let him be the head of the orginization. :cooltongue:

Aside from a possible return of Sir Connery to the EON James Bond franchise, the "gadgets" cite here is priceless to me!

Personally, I've always fancied the gadgets. One could argue less versus more on a film-by-film basis. But it's signature 007 to me, and I've not only felt no reason to appologize for them, but actually felt when they were minimized that I was cheated by the films in which they've tended toward MIA.

The icing on the cake here is how often From Russia with Love is hailed as the gadget-appropriate film to which we must harken back. Yet, ironically, it is this film (as opposed to what I'd have considered shooting fish in a barrel for a Sean Connery film in recalling Goldfinger) that is criticized by name here.

Ahh-- if only the EON franchise could somehow "find itself" and return to the quality of James Bond film we enjoyed in the days before From Russia with Love took things so over the top w/ its gadgets! Would we be including Barry Nelson in the 1950s Casino Royale are part of that to which we should return?

Sean comes off as having a price to "selloff". Frankly, I'd prefer Roger over Sean in any such or other role in a Bond film. Roger is the epitome of class when it comes to talking about Bond and other matters. He is an ambassador for the franchise. If there's ever a re-make or sequel to the "Grumpy Old Men" movies, Sean would find nis niche.

The only way he could come back would be if his face was never seen like the old school bond villains.

If Wilson and Broccoli gets the rights on the Gardner novels, Sean Connery could play Bruce, Bonds uncle, from the Role of Honour novel.

Glad to see Connery is as gracious about Bond and the Eon family as ever. "It would definitely cost them"...?!! Who does he think he is..?!! The least anyone in the film industry has to do with that man, the better.

Viscious, money grabbing zealot. I've no time for the man - and neither do most people I know who've worked with him (and that includes actors, producers and assistants).

Indeed.

A sobering reminder that just because someone played James Bond doesn't mean they need to give a damn about the details of the books.

Moore and Dalton look better and better as Bond ambassadors, don't they? They're as gracious as they are grateful. Connery's playing the tight-fisted Scot now that his two-fisted days are all done. With all that money, all that fame...really, what's there to be so unhappy about?

No thank you. I don't want this type of character expansion. We don't need to meet Bond's dad, just like we didn't need to meet Indy's(The Last crusade sucked!).

How DARE those insidious producers make him an international star against his will? The outrage!!

And wouldn't Sean be closer to the age of Daniel's grandfather by now anyway?

Of course, I don't honestly believe there's any truth to this "breaking news" story to begin with...

Sean,

You were and are an indelible Bond.
But, quite obviously, a dispensible Bond. Twice.

Don't fly kites like this to some stoopid journo (if you've been quoted correctly). No-one's buying.

Just make a good, decent film. Find a script and director you like and forget about money, for once. Ask your friend Michael Caine for some career advice. Or even Roger Moore, who is spending his dotage not being a grumpy old man but doing something admirable.

Sean, in the words of your 1983 nemesis in that film: "You were a very good secret agent."
