Believe it or not, but since I made myself familiar with so-called spiritual laws of the universe, I've encountered so many things Joe Average would call "coincidence" that it's ridiculous.

Science is not the ultimate truth, it's a way to describe things.
One apple plus one apple is two apples, right? 1 + 1 = 2.
But that's not the ultimate truth, it just gives cause and effect names. Had the same head who came up with that called a single part of everything 2, and not 1, would that make any difference? Surely there would still be two apples and not four.
Earth doesn't rotate because the formula for gravity exists, the formula exists because the earth rotates and it seemed to work to this hour.
Nobody can verify that gravity works the same way everywhere in the universe(s); we are barely able to explain numerous gravitational anomalies on earth.

No, and I certainly don't entertain yet more bored musings by fans who have clearly run out of creative steam when it comes to discussing James Bond.

yes we can.

We may be able to, but we haven't. According to calculations by the almighty scientists, published in July 2007, only 4% of the universe (as they see it) consists of atoms. 22% is believed to be "dark matter", and 74% "dark energy", and we have absolutely not the faintest idea of what it consists or what its precise effect is.

So, if you want to believe that we can explain everything based on 4%, then it's your good right, but it's not good enough by far to mark everything you can't explain as nonexistent.
We probably wouldn't have stepped out of the dark ages yet if it wasn't for men and women who didn't only reduce themselves to what they could proof. Troy would still be a myth, Einstein's theories wouldn't exist ...

Throughout time, mankind has always had a tendency to close its eyes before the obvious. And who doesn't learn from history is bound to repeat its mistakes.

No, and I certainly don't entertain yet more bored musings by fans who have clearly run out of creative steam when it comes to discussing James Bond.

Oh, I'm sorry, I thought "General Discussion" was there for a reason.

It's an interesting discussion. I don't believe in ghosts until I see them. However, I do agree that we do not know everything about the universe and there are plenty of things that happen that cannot be explained.

I've just seen a ghost! I've just came back from the hospital to see my aunt who has just had an operation, and something really spooky happened. I was going into the elevator and I was completely sure there was no one in the lift when I entered because you all know you can see the entire elevator when you enter. Anyway I walked into the elevator and I was standing and I saw something in the corner of my eye, I turned around and there was an old woman standing there in an old white cardigan and a black dress. I jumped and I said:

"Oh Jesus, you scared me"

"Why? do I look that funny?"

"erm no, not at all.. its just I didn't see you"

"Well... you didn't look hard enough!"

 I am completely and utterly freaked out! She didn't dissapear she just stood there untill the elevator doors opened and then she walked out. But there was no one in that elevator when I went in.

Maybe you didn't look hard enough? Next time you talk to a "ghost", ask it what year it is. If it says the wrong year then it is in fact a ghost. If it says the correct year then perhaps you should lay off the reefer.

I don't believe in Ghosts. Penn and Teller had a great episode of their show (Bull****) dealing with Ghosts. It was downright hilarious. They had this team of wannabe Ghostbusters claiming that they were finding 'scientific' evidence of the presence of ghosts. Of course, real science refuted the whole thing.

For consistency's sake, I don't believe in any sort of God who intervenes in human affairs (I guess I'm a Deist), I certainly don't believe in prayer having any affect*, especially since it has been scientifically proven to have to greater effect than a placebo. I don't believe in aliens (or rather, I don't believe we've come into contact with any, I suppose they could exist in another galaxy, but they might as well not exist). Or Sasquatch.

*one of the funniest moments on Futurama (which is saying something) occured when Fry was searching for Bender. When all hope was lost Fry declared, "I'll just have to do something desperate and crazy!" The next scene is him at a church. He asks the priest, "is there anything religion can do to help find my friend?" The priest replies, "well, we could join together in prayer." To which Fry responds, "mmhmm, but is there anything useful we could do?" "No."

PS People make a big deal about things being 'unexplained' and thus attribute them to paranormal forces. They seem to forget that much of what we now know is perfectly normal was once thought to be paranormal. Science is still advancing. It's highly likely that many of these 'unexplained' things will be easily explained by science in the future.

Well that's interesting; did you tell any family members? What were their reactions?

Although I've haven't been there yet (I would like to), the battlefield at Gettysburg, PA (American Civil War) is supposed to be haunted due to the tens of thousands of men who died in the 3 day battle. Most were killed at close range, and very violently, due to the weapons of the period. The story is these dead soldiers still roam the battlefield looking for their fellow soldiers, and forming battle-lines.

Harkin, before I watch that can you tell me if some CGI creature is going to jump out when I least expect it? I already took a shower today so I'd rather not have to put on fresh boxers.

It looks a bit fake to me. LOL at Righty talking about a CGI creature jumping out - I remember that e-mail that went around where it asked at the beginning "can you see the ghost" and then showed an empty room for about 30 seconds and then a huge CGI comical ghost suddenly appeared grinning at the camera!!

LOL.

When you believe in things, that you don't understand, you suffer. Superstition ain't the way...

Thanks Stevie, couldn't have said it better myself.

I really wish I could encounter some of these supposed ghosts. Especially in the company of some cowering believers. I'd challenge it, or at least try and determine what caused the apparition.

If there is a such thing as ghosts, aliens and God, then all they need to do is hold a big press conference, invite the world's press, and then there can be no argument about their existence.

Well that was interesting; some of that footage can be tossed aside for trickery but there were a couple of instances I wasn't so sure about. Sort of creepy in places.

One thing that I'm pretty sure of is that ghosts might not conveiniently walk across roads for you to film them like that while you're driving. Either that or the cameraman has great timing.

The thing I found funny was when they set the camera up next to the mirror and a 'ghost' disturbed it. I didn't know ghosts made the sound of footsteps!

Nothing strange happening to me so far, but my parents say that there is a person who lives across the street of my house and that practices whichcraft and is trying to "break" my family apart. Of course I don't believe this, but I think that they are going too far.(especially when now they are getting too religious and superstisious after living with that person as a neighbor for about five years peacefully) I just wish that things can go back to normal the way they were then.

I believe in ghosts, but I think they appear to people, who don't think that they exist. I haven't experienced anything strange, but one of my close relatives has made ''contact'' with something from the unseen.

I have had some odd things happen to me through the years. My mother said she never believed in ghosts, only 'windows in time', to explain some freaky happenings in her parent's house. That house alone is enough to make you shiver, it's painted black, no lie, black! It's a black 'Greek Revival' house built in the mid 1800's. They added some rooms so there is only one hallway that is not lit by even a window. But anyway, every day towards sun down, you can hear a car or truck or tractor, not sure, come up the winding gravel drive, but nothing ever arrives.

I once worked at a mental health agency that was housed in an old hotel that was at the time an old folks home. I worked in the reception area, facing the front door. At the side of my little office, was a half door facing a hallway which lead to the hotel. All the therapists there were in session with the only clients there. No one walking about. If anyone were to open any of the doors at the front or back, as a safety measure, a bell chimes to alert me and I'd stick my head out the half door to see who's there. There was no chime. As I turned towards the half door to check the scheduling book, I caught sight of the side of a person passing the opening. I turned to the main window, because no one passing the half door can leave without going past the main window to the front door and I was curious to see who was coming through as I didn't recognise the clothes. No one came past that window. I stuck my head out of the half door opening and no one was there.

It only happened that once in the three years I'd been there. It didn't scare me and I certainly hadn't been thinking about anything like that either. It was just another of my late nights and I was ready to close up the office and head out like I usually do. I've been told by a therapist who used to work at mental hospital that places like those where there's been many deaths, or heavy emotional trauma always have some sort of activity. He was a no nonsense eagle scout, who I wouldn't have thought would even consider such things.

I don't know if ghosts are real. I know that something happened in two places full of bad mojo. That black house, and a place where suicides, overdoses, and natural death ran aplenty.

This thread just won't 'stay dead'

I actually have no complaints...this is quite an interesting thread...I've always been curious of ghosts...perhaps thats the reason i've never seen one...beacuse i've always believed in them to some extent. I do, however, have one...My Father spent 20 years in the Air Force, and continues working for the federal Government. He still wakes up 0500, even on his day's off, and is one of those people that needs to have someone in charge. In a nutshell, he is conservative, narrow minded, and not the type that I took to be a believer in ghosts or anything out of the ordinary...he certainly didn't act like it...He groans or rolls his eyes whenever I want to watch "The Excorsist" or anything along those lines, and when I'd watch "Ghost Hunters" he'd just sit back and go pfft..."Theyr'e not proving anything". But one Saturday Morning after a Breakfast of Bacon and Eggs, I turned on the Travel Channel and began watching a show about Haunted Places in Britain...My dad immediatly began dogging me for it, and I finally said "Okay, your telling me that you've NEVER had anything the least bit strange happen to you?". I finally broke him down and he began telling me about some of the strange things that happened in the house he grew up in, on Kerny Blvd, Fresno California...All of the kids had at one point stayed in the back Bedroom. First my eldest aunt...heard things throughout the night, felt things touching her...My Uncle, well, he STILL to this day, only says he definetely saw something and refuses to talk about it...My youngest aunt says that she saw little children standing around her at night...so heres my fathers story. He was about 9 or 10, sharing the back bedroom with my youngest aunt who was a few years older. It was a rather windy night, and he was having trouble falling asleep. As he layed there he began to hear a light tapping on the window, which didn't cease. He called over to my aunt, and she said it was probably just a tree limb being blown against the window. After thinking about it for a moment, he suddenly realised that the small shrub that had been outside the window was removed the previous weekend. So finally he got up to investigate. There in the window, he saw a man, beckoning him forward with his index finger. As my father walked forward, the man began to smile, and pulled out a nuce. He continued to beckon him forward, outside. My father just closed his eyes, turned around, and walked back to bed. He said the tapping never stopped until morning. And THAT, is my long and bloated contribution to this thread. At least once in my life, i'd like to have a similar experience...I have a few others from my Grandmother and Brother which I will share when this thread needs a boost
