3) “Ouch. Don’t ever do that again” when the tracking bug is implanted. Sorry friends, but this doesn’t do it for me. Straight out of an 80’s Arnold Schwarzenegger deal this one comes. I get the sinking feeling this was a P&W bit and that Craig didn’t really know what to do with it. Is this supposed to convince us that Craig is tough? [I think the fact that he jumped 20 feet onto a steel crane, then 30 feet from a crane onto a rooftop, then another 20 feet from a rooftop crushing a dumpster lid (?) with his body proved that point.] It’s not even a clever thing to say.

Hence why it wasn't in the film :cooltongue: He just says "Ow" when the bug is put in.

Something very fishy is going on here, and it's not the breeze off of Lake Michigan. Have we all seen the same film?

I have never read the script. I REMEMBER him saying "Ow. Don't ever do that again." I swear he did. I will relinquish my Lieutenant status if I'm lying. Is there anybody from the states that can attest?

I'll tell ya... if I'm wrong, then I'm straight to buy a lotto ticket, because there is no way that I would have come up with that by accident.

Gosh, I've seen the film seven times and I can only remember an "Ouch!" from Craig. But I'd hate to see you renounce your Lieutenant status. So maybe the film was censored in the Pacific Northwest?

7 times here as well and it's always an ironic/jokey "Owww" as if to say *is that supposed to hurt? could only feel a tiny little prickle, you prick*

I would change nothing about Craig's performance. He is absolutely flawless in CASINO ROYALE.

I don't know if he was flawless. It's just that I cannot find anything I would change about Craig's performance.

Nor do I consider him second after Connery. Frankly, I consider him and the other actors who have played Bond just as good as Connery.

I'm kind of with you, JC. There were some moments that sat a little awkwardly with me, including the 'whatever is left of me' stuff, but I can't really say how much of that is Dan and how much is the script. I don't think I could honestly say it was a flawless performance, which is not to say either that I have any particular complaints.

Thanks SJ. I had to bury my head in the sand for a little while there. As you said, I have memory of a few moments that sit 'a little awkwardly with me'. Nothing that would turn me away from the film whatsoever. But I could go back through every Bond film and probably find at least a couple things I'd like to ask <insert name of Bond actor> to retry. Sean included. Well, except maybe in Thunderball. :cooltongue:

I don't understand why we all have to rate DC as a perfect '10', esp. on his first try.

I doubt that Craig's performance was "perfect". I just can't think of any criticisms right now.

That walk when he's walking to the Aston Martin. Looks like a body builder... I think that's the only thing that bugs me about Craig himself. The only other issues I have relate more to how some of the lines were written rather than what Craig did with them.

I know most people love those scenes. I like the idea of them, it's not that I have anything against seeing Bond that intimately (in this case), there was just something about them. Over time I'll probably be able to identify what but as yet I'm not sure why.

I think it's simply a case of the butter being laid on too thick. The line sounds great but would never be delivered by someone actually meaning it - it's overly dramatic. I don't think there's anything wrong with Daniel's performance per se in delivering that line: he's vulnerable and scared.

Apart from that line itself the cutting seems a bit abrubt - he goes from joking and being 'guarded' to opening up with that line... unfortunately it doesn't ring true to me.

May I say in my tiniest possible voice to avoid any threat of a spanking:

Absolute perfection--including the throwaway droll Valet line!

There is not a font size small enough for you avoid punishment, my friend. Perhaps black font would have been a safer disguise? :cooltongue:

Ok. Let's restart this with a specific example. Who liked "Ouch" when he gets the bug implanted?

Never mind my apparent delusions that he says "Ouch. Don't ever do that again." (or my extra sensory perceptions, as the case may be, since I never read the script!). Also never mind that "ouch" may not be the best imaginable line a script could offer. It is what it is, and I'm here to talk only about what Craig did with it.

Doesn't it remind a little of Commando/Raw Deal? Does he have to stare down the guy administering the trace? Couldn't Craig have lightened it up a bit? Does it not feel a little too 'tough-guy' cliche?

C'mon. Someone help me out here. ???

I rate him as a 10, but I save the "perfect" moniker for people who get an 11. :cooltongue:

Anyway, I agree with those who've said that the flaws they found were visibly in the writing, not his delivery. His worst moments IMO were no less than average, and that was just a line or two ("continue funding terror", mostly). He truly was the highlight of the film, and I'd be a fool to want to tweak anything he did myself (trust me, I'd still be willing to tighten up the movie itself here and there  ), just as I wouldn't dare touch, say, Harrison Ford's performance in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

And yes, the "Ow" bit was one of beautifully simple perfection.

Good example of perfection. Truly an untouchable performance. An '11' all the way.
I guess I still give Craig a '9'.

Why don't you just make ten louder and make ten be the top number and make that a little louder?

I think only truly 'bad acting' moment I, myself, witnessed was when Craig's Bond mumbles "Well then, you're an idiot" to Vesper and then, when not heard says "I SAID YOU'RE A BLOODY IDIOT!"

In my opinion, it was pretty bad acting. It felt like he was acting, and not like he was the character.

I think that Daniel Craig's performance as Bond was great. The way Daniel Craig looked, Acted, and everything else was the way i pictured James Bond in the books...except the blond hair, but still i think he was the best bond ever!!!...along with Sean Connery.

Just to show you how subjective this is . . . the moments others are citing as less-than-stellar -- "You're a bloody idiot!" "Ouch!" and "Oh, the valet ticket," etc. -- rang true for me. IMO, there's not a single false note in Craig's performance. He become Bond, for me.

I thought the "You're a bloody idiot!" sounded real. The mumbling part did not :cooltongue:
It felt like he mumbled intentionally, and because of that came off as acting. To me atleast.

I still wish "Ouch" and "Oh, and the valet ticket" would have been reworked.

The former is still too macho. It feels like Broz's "Now you do" to the wheelchair guy in DAD. Juvenile writing for a B-action flick is what it comes down to, and Craig

I think what I want to see from Craig is a bit of that same staredown he gives Dimitrios as he sits down at the table. He doesn
