This is good news. I didn;t really think the powers that be would stray too far from Fleming's version of Mathis.

Don't know if this news has been posted already, I wasn't at home for a week.
I read on an italian newspaper "Il Giornale", an interview with Giancarlo Giannini, and he gave some hints on Bond 22.
He has already signed for it. so we will see him on the new bond film.
Next I'm going to write could be a spoiler for the next bond...
He said his charachter (Mathis) is a good man, just like M explain to Bond on the phone at the end of Casino Royale, and on the next one he will show it.
His double face portrayal will be the vehicle to reach to the top of the organization.
That's all he said

Hello,

It's a shame that Giancarlo reveals that he's not a traitor.I would have seen him in a same entrapment that Vesper, with threatened children, something like that, or a blackmail about his past...
Le Chiffre and his organisation were too smart I think to have infiltrated only one mole.
I hope he'll be back and longer than Zukowski!

Slight shame it wasn't kept quiet till the film to add that mystery etc.

Agreed. There really should be a Bond 22 spoiler warning on this thread.

It will be interesting to see how they explain this, but it was clear at the end of CR that we weren't finished with Mathis ("keep sweating him"). Glad to hear that Giannini is coming back, tho. Such an accomplished actor (Oscar nominee) and many didn't even know who he was until CR.

Maathis could haave a leg and an arm eaten by a sshark in 22. Richard Kiel can play the sshark.

lol!

Good news about the Mathis character though; perhaps there will be some sort of closure since he exited CR on such a question mark...

It's great to hear that they're bringing Giannini back for Bond 22. I think that one of the weaker points in previous films had been the casting of different actors in the roles of of recurring characters in the previous films, so it's good to see some continuity here, and especially the continued involvement of such a high-quality actor.

Excellent news, and it certainly would play off the events of CR very well.

It'll be neat to see a Bond movie that's a direct sequel and continues the story of the previous movie.

I'm also glad he is returning. Giannini's Mathis was one of the (many) highlights of Casino Royale for me.

'M' trained VESPER's Algerian boyfriend ?

Eh?

On the novel version of "Casino Royale," Vesper's suicide note mentions that her boyfriend was trained by M.

Very glad to hear that Giannini is back. Very charming personality.

For some reason, I just flashed on the Lethal Weapon movies. Seems like too many characters in that series survived from one installment to the next....

I'm really glad to hear this, having predicted that Mathis would prove to be good. He's a sensational actor and it will be wonderful to see him in, I hope, a bigger role. And, just as important, Bond's 'unfinished' business must include regaining a sense of limited trust. By the end of CR he believes he's been betrayed twice and trusts no one. But, as we know, in future films he'll have a number allies. A giant step has been taken in the right direction.

I agree. It's nice to hear that he'll be returning. It will help Bond 22 feel even more connected to Casino Royale.
