Hopefully the Academy takes notice and realize that CR deserves some Oscar attention.

Great news for the Bond camp. Some serious award attention and will definitely take home some hardware.

Truly remarkable. Yet again, CASINO ROYALE raises the bar for the Bond franchise.

Whilst this is truly remarkable for a Bond film and frankly amazing for a twenty-first film in a franchise (will American Pie 21: "Come" of Age garner such nominations?), and I do this with a slight wince on my face but - is Casino Royale really a British film? Isn't it a US/UK/Czech/German co-production? Whilst I accept that many, many ostensibly British films must have US funding in them somewhere, this one does seem a bit more of a United Nations production.

Still, this is hardly something to complain about. What a tremendous achievement.

I'm so pleased CR has these nominations, proof that Bond for this new era is being taken seriously and well recieved from fans and critics!

I also pray that Daniel gets his Best Actor, he sure dseserves it. I've never felt so close to a portrayal of James Bond with humanity, tragedy, humour and determination.

Fingers crossed!

To be honest, any of the other Best British Films are not entirely home-grown. It is an odd category for CASINO ROYALE, but another notch on the BAFTA bedpost for Bond so who cares....!

Excellent news, the best part being that Barbara and Michael now have absolutely no excuse for attempting to make a DAD style next time round. Fans loved the film, audiences loved it and critics are going overboard everywhere. Bond22 should stick to what CR did best.

On another note the coverage the 9 nominations is now getting in the British press is quite big, which would prompt me to think that the UK Boxoffice might even get a further boost, from all this positive buzz!

most of the UK newspapers I looked at this morning led their BAFTA pieces with Daniel's nomination ("The man with the golden gong"!) and quite a few used it as another excuse to print that blue trunks picture again. All of the critics I saw interviewed on the news channels said he really deserved the nomination as well and most said they hoped he would win.

Same, listening to an interview and they were really taking it out of the people who were against him. "They said he was too short, they said he was too blond" - laughs "How can you be too blond?" "I don't know, but Daniel Craig has had the last laugh, being nominated for a record number, for a Bond film, number of Baftas, as well as being the first Bond to be nominated for Best Actor for the role. Way to go Daniel, you showed them!" "Who were they anyway?" "Oh just some over zealous um, Bond fans, if you can call them that, just like the Superman fans who hated the suit and the spiderman fans who hated Toby Mcquire"

Well, DCINB is still soldiering on. Its front page is now trumpeting NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM's Stateside haul ("Night at the Museum has made $164,097,000 17 days!" it exclaims breathlessly) as further proof of, presumably, the total pisspoorness of the failure that is CASINO ROYALE, and the utter majesty of the box office giant who goes by the name of Pierce Brosnan.

Oh man, now that's just low. it's a sad and irrelevant comparison.

They put that up there in protest to BAFTA giving CR 10 nominations and one for Daniel's great work.

What a sad lot those feeble minded fools are. :cooltongue:

No mention, I suppose, that MUSEUM, whatever that has to do with anything, also out-earned all of Brosnan's films too? Every negative thing they say about CR now applies even more to any Brosnan film. Congratulations, DCINB, you are now officially a Brosnan-bashing site. Good job! :cooltongue:

Yeah. They don't mention that, for instance, TITANIC opened on the same day as TOMORROW NEVER DIES and ended up making just a tiny bit more.

Yep. And just to put things into perspective, here's a summary of this week's news on Casino Royale :

-CR reaches $531 million at the worldwide box office, $100 million more than DAD and still going strong
-CR becomes the highest earning film of the year in Britain, and the third highest UK earner of all time
-CR receives the rottentomatoes.com award for Best reviewed film of the year
-CR officially surpasses DAD at the North American box office
-A poll on imdb.com shows that Craig is the best bond since Connery
-CR is nominated for 10 BAFTAs, including a Best Actor nomination for Daniel Craig.

And DCINB's response to all this?

"Night at the Museum does well at the box office".

'Nuff said. :cooltongue:

It may be worth noting folks that a LOT of BAFTA members and voters are also Academy Award voters too. Not ALL of them granted. A producer friend is a BAFTA member and already has a DVD copy of CASINO ROYALE, the swine! Unfortunately those pesky BAFTA bods have encrypted all their DVD's so they can only be played on a DVD player BAFTA HQ give you.

CASINO ROYALE has a good chance here and there in London on February 11th. If you are a BAFTA voter and have the prospect of ploughing through many titles before you vote, I imagine one or two slip through unwatched. But CASINO ROYALE has 44 years and 20 films behind it so could get a few folks "why the hell not" votes...

The department Guild awards and their various accolades bodes well for the Oscar nomination announcements on January 23rd... Who cares if it doesn't win much of note. It's just sometimes nice to be asked to the ball even if you don't want to hang out with the squares....

It's excellent news, I saw it reported on the news here in Australia the other night.

I think that The Queen will win more awards, but it's still a great achievement for a Bond film.

ROTFLMAO. *cries* Wow, that was some good laugh. I mean there was a point where I thought those DCINB folks are ridiculously stupid but this is beyond ridiculous. It's actually funny in a pathetic kind of way.

Well now in light of Bond's snubbing at the Oscars, the BAFTAS better make up for it.

In my opinion, Craig has the best chance in the Best Actor category. Whilst Forest Whitaker is very good in THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, he is surpassed by the supporting James McAvoy (who also has more screen time). Awards are indeed odd and silly excuses for everyone to get together, pat their backs, air kiss and forget all about it the next morning. A bit like hiring a cheap prostitute....

You would pat the prostitute's back? How ... avuncular.

What would an expensive prostitute let you do? Comb their hair?

YWell it's sad to see CR not being nominated for a single Oscar. However, since CR got nominated for 9 BAFTAS, this could give some conciousness to Sony and they'd create a Bond Oscar campaign for Bond 22. WHat about that eh?

Anyone notice that Daniel Craig's fellow acting nominees are all connected to Craig himself or Casino Royale in some way?

Peter O'Toole - was directed in Venus by Roger Michell, who directed Craig in The Mother and Enduring Love
Forest Whitaker - plays Ugandan villain Idi Amin; Casino Royale featured Uganda as a location, with a Ugandan villain, Obanno.
Richard Griffiths - appeared in 'Goldeneye : the secret life of Ian Fleming'
Leonardo DiCaprio - did a James Bond impression in Catch me if you can

There was also a deposed African dictator at the Casino table.
