-Is he killed by the snakes?
-Is he killed by the spectators of the snake fight?
-He escapes?

Anyway, if he wasn't bitten by the snake, he must have been trampled by the crowds - (worse that than having to face an angry M)

"we need him alive" Bond's abit of a hypocrite here, lol.
That line could've been changed to 'I'd like him alive' perhaps.

I guess he should've taken his hand off his ear...

No, it doesn't say. Suppose that Carter could be used again if necessary. It's certainly not clear if he perished after falling into the pit.Is there a satisfactory anwster to my question in the script?

Not that I know of...
I guess he should've taken his hand off his ear...
He should of pretended to scratch his ear when Mollaka saw him, thats what i would have done:
"I have a little itch, right there, dont mind me"

I figured he would've gotten out of the situation intact, he just wasn't important enough to bring up again in the film.
Agreed.

Seconded.
Although I swear I saw stills from a scene that took place shortly after when Bond and Carter meet up again.

maybe he just curls up and goes to sleep....
Would make for a fairly odd scene in the film.

I'd say he's definately not a 00. The ear thing; making eye contact with the opposition; pulling out his gun; the errant shot from his gun; falling into the snake pit. Probably sent straight to the desk.
lol so true

I think he must be related to Mary Goodnight.

Carter is one of the most incompetent field agents I have ever seen, Double-O or not (although considerably more talented than Jinx). My guess is he was crushed in the stampede.
I guess you never saw The Living Daylights. 002 and 004 in the PTS had their heads up their butts like no one I've ever seen! 002 had no semblance of a PLF (parachute landing fall) and struggled so long to stow his chute that he got shot in the back by a random SAS agent that he didn't even notice was coming. Then 004 stupidly allows the KGB hitman to cut his rope and falls to his death, instead of defending himself like Moore did in FYEO (having additional ropes, clinging to the rock, and shooting the hitman or throwing a knife at him).
Although to be fair, in pretty much all the movies it seems that 007 is the only remotely competent 00 agent. (Paul Fairbanks's 002 is caught offguard and killed before the events of TMWTGG, 003 is ostensibly killed by the staggeringly incompetent Russian troops before the events of AVTAK, 009 is killed by Mischa and Grischa who aren't particularly formidable when Bond faces them, and another 009 shoots Renard in the head in TWINE and doesn't stop to make sure he's dead.)
Granted, I'm no secret agent, but I have military experience and common sense.
And of course, the big exception is 006 who seems to know his stuff, but I'm not counting him seeing as how he turned evil and all.

Wow, I can't believe I didn't mention Goodnight. I guess I was so traumatized by her ridiculousness that I blocked her from my memory!
The best cure for Goodnight, is to follow your watching of TMWTGG, with a viewing of the original "Wicker Man" (1973) where Britt does a nude dance.
