For all you parents-to-be on this forum: if you were expecting a child that turned out to be a girl at birth, would you name her Vesper, after the female lead in CR? We already have a Solange, in the younger sister of singer/actress Beyonce Knowles, and it would be interesting to see how many little Vespers named after Ms. Lynd have come into this world following the success of CR. Naming children after film characters or film stars is nothing new, it's been done before. Biggest example is Gone With The Wind, where I have seen lots of Taras and Rhetts, and quite a few Scarlets. So, would you have a little baby Vesper in your family, following the release of CR?

I do hope they'll give their parents hell for that. :)

I think it's a nice name, actually.

Darn Cody, I was just about to say that! I LOVE the name "Vesper" but considering she "must have given her parents hell for that", I don't want to be the parent of a Vesper. :P

Though I am considering to name my daughter Honey if I ever do wind up having kids. I dunno, it's still tooooo cute a name.

And if we're wondering about babies named after Bond characters, I have *thankfully* yet to here of somebody naming their child "Octopuusy" or just "Pussy" (Galore)... I'd sue my parents if I had that case... thank the heavens "Gala" (Brand) wound up instead.

But still, Vesper is adorable save for giving parents hell. :)

It's a ok name i personally wouldn't name my child Vesper but it's better then naming your child Tiffany Case or Pussy Galore.

If I ever had a daughter I would name her Vesper. I have always loved the name, ever since I read the book 6 years ago. And my feelings about this matter have not changed. I think Honey is also a cute name.

I actually wouldn't mind naming my child "Tiffany". My friend's younger sister is named that. :cooltongue: But "Honeychile" or just "Honey" is still cuter!

Naming a baby after a motor scooter is just cruel...

I've always loved the names Domino and Solitaire, and hope oneday to meet a woman who'd let me name a baby one of those :cooltongue:

I like Vesper, but I'll probably go for Solitare as well.

I would have Jaws and Oddjob, for boys names

he funniest things about Bond movies is that the Bond girls have really bizzar names, which i cant see there parents giving them.

But if i called my daughter Vesper, she'd probably give her daddy hell for that. :cooltongue:

Take this from someone named after a jolly, red, fat man: DO NOT GIVE YOUR CHILDREN COMEDY NAMES!!! Even 'unusual' names might be pushing it. Stick with the traditional, kids.

Having trawled the bond girl name list backwards and forwards, our second daughter is named Isobel (isabella scorupco) Natalya (Simionova) purely coincidental that they are actress and character, the only names we could agree were pretty but "normal" also as she was born near christmas (not tempted with that one) Natalya has seasonal references (Nativity in italian style or something)
We have Honey on the list for number three (due in March) but are concerned that it is used for the naming of fat golden Labradors too much, A boy would have James as second name, but that is after Dad (not DAD or Dad's hero!) Miles is a cool name for a boy too!!

I do love the name, but I'd never risk jinxing a baby. I'd call her Eva instead for good luck.

Warning about being named Gala, since I have plenty of experience with it (due to it being my name)...

People pronounce it "Gay-luh" NOT "Gah-lah" the way it should be. VERY ironic it is mispronounced "GAY-luh" when she is the one who refuses Bond. *sighs*

I've yet to come across a Bond character that my wife would has accepted a potential name. I'll keep combing through the books and movies; but it's been a fruitless search thus far.

Well, my cousin is having a hell of a time with his Bond inspired new daughter - Pussy Tiffany Holly Domino Sanchez Galore!! And Church of England orchestras just can't belt out A VIEW TO A KILL in the way they used to as the holy water is poured over the baby's head from an Aston Martin shaped recepticle.

It was certainly a case of "mistaken" and "not referred...".

I have a co-worker who just found out she's having a baby girl. They asked me for name suggestions so of course I said "how about Vesper." Both of the ladies in the office said, "that would be nice, if she was having a dog."

I do think Bond is a fine first name; however, the only person I've ever met with Bond as a first name was a woman from Japan. I'm truly not sure what to make of that.

I remember that in a Croatian newspaper there was once an article about somebody in Bosnia naming their child "James Bond (insert last name)". When questioned why, the parent proudly said "Anybody can be called James, this is James Bond!"

I couldn't stop laughing...

My mother was a huge fan of Clark Gable and GWTW, but thought Rhett was too much so she changed it slightly and named me Brett.

As for naming my next daughter Vespa? After a motor scooter? Hmmmm....

Doubt it. :cooltongue:

I've actually driven one of those scooters. They're faster than a golf cart, but not much else.

It is ultimately ridiculous that they do that... but it's living proof that you can make fun of even more "sensible" Bond girl names if you set your mind to it!

Hello again, I'm the person that brought you this little thread. To quote Sylvia Trench, the responses to this subject have been interesting. Up until now, they stayed within the Bond community. More recently, Vesper as a name is starting to reach the general public, and one of these posters has apparently seen CR:

Looks like I started something after all.

Actually, I would prefer Cara, after Kara Milovy.

But seriously, Bond related names have only been used for our pets...

I'd happily name a hypothetical daughter Domino. I doubt my wife would agree to it, though. No doubt I'd have to pay a hefty price in the form of a double name with the other half being something I really don't like.
