I had to wait until the end of the film to hear "The name's Bond, James Bond", when he shoots Mr. White.

What a great way for 007 to bring it back!!!

Anyone else wished he had said it earlier, perhaps?

The timing was just right for me. I can't think of anywhere else in the film where it would have had half the impact. Each time I saw the film--four times--audiences clapped and cheered. In 22 I'm sure you'll get to hear it a lot sooner.

Either I was with a VERY strange crowd, or I was the only one that said "YES!" with the excitement of winning a superbowl game or something... lol. But it was an awesome moment, I was upset to see it end but it was the perfect cliffhanger for Bond 22!

Until that moment he was just James Bond.
He wasn't "Bond. James Bond."

So, I think he said it just at the right time.

It couldn't have been in a better scene. It was perfectly placed.

Agreed. Perfect placement of the iconic line. Really gave it some meaning in the context.

It was perfectly placed for me.

Did anyone else think that Craig tried to put just a little bit of the Connery accent into it?

I wish Roger had come in after Craig said it and said this:

I like the rest of you agree that the quintessetial bond line was at the right moment. If Roger Moore had come on that would have been very intresting.

I agree, the timing of the line worked perfectly especially with how it was worked into the first complete playing of the James Bond Theme -- a slow build-up, Craig drops the line, & it goes full force. This brought cheers out of the crowd in the showing I saw on opening day.

I didn't think it was too late at all. It was the events in the film, and Vesper's death than made Bond, James Bond. So... the line was perfectly placed I think.

It was a great moment. A few people cheered in the cinema I was in, here in Sydney.

And the music afterwards!! It makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end just talking about it!

It was a master-stroke. The best delivery since Dr. No (IMHO). I wanted to jump up and yell "H*ll Yes!" But the outro-theme squelched my idea ( I certainly didn't want to mess that up).

I'm not adding anything new, but I agree with so many others, the line along with the Bond theme were the perfect way to end the film, rivaled only by the endings of OHMSS and LALD, IMO.

I think it works where it's at; its a great end to the film for the Bond film fan.

That said I'd have still liked the film if he'd not said it at all. :)

Not me. I think it was a wise choice to end the "first" Bond film in an "alternate universe".

It was a great leaving it until the end, because between the line and the bond theme, the audience would be leaving the cinema on a high.

I would have to say it is the best ending to any Bond film. The cinema I was in all left smiling.

I've always been a bit torn about how the end of the film was done. If the film completely stands as its own and there was no novel that it was based on, then I would say, without a doubt, that it's right up there with the absolute best endings in the franchise. But, I think that the ending could have been better had they used the ending of the novel, and had the "Bond, James Bond" line just a little earlier. Still, I think that it's a great ending, but I do wish that they had done justice to the final line of the novel, because the way that the final line of the novel was relegated to throwaway status was the biggest disappointment in the film.

How would it have to be re-arranged to fit in with the novel, tdalton?

Whta tdalton is saying, is that he would have prefered the film to end the way the novel did. Having 'the bitch is dead' to end the film, and in turn having 'The names Bond, James Bond' placed somewhere before.

Exactly, although I can't really find any fault with the way that the film itself ended. Having Craig deliver "Bond, James Bond" as the Bond theme began to swell up in the background was fantastic. My main complaint was the way that the final line of the novel was made into something of a throwaway line, which took away from the dramatic impact of the line (as well as its importance) when there was no really compelling reason to have it done that way.

Then were would you have put "The Bitch Is Dead" line? Replacing it with "Bond. James, Bond" as in the novel? Because I thought it was such a great ending to the film, so the sacrifice was justified.
