I've heard Shane Black talk at writer's conferences about what he would do with Bond. If I see him I'll ask him what he thinks of CR but I think he digs it based on his opinions of what went wrong with Bond films and action films in general. Watch his film KISS KISS BANG BANG. Not only for the shout outs to Bond films, but for an idea of how he would handle Bond.

My point is that while Paul Haggis is a great writer, there are other great writers out there.

He better, or else we may be in trouble. Many interviews with Wade and Purvis point suggest that they wrote a more dark script, but I think the key difference on this one was Haggis. So yeah, I hope EON does everything they can to keep him around for a while.

Totally agree :) :P :P

Yes. Either Haggis or another equally reputable writer. Essential, if P&W stay.

I am ok with Purvis and Wade as long as a credible writer such as Haggis does the polishing again. It doesn't have to be HIM, but someone like that needs to be involved to produce another film of CR's quality.

do you think they will have paul haggis return to do another screenplay polish for bond 22? one of my favorite things of casino royale was the dialogue between the characters because it really helped us care about them. i hope he comes back to provide the next one with similar dialogue so it doesnt return to the typical juvenile conversations we got in the brosnan era

A lot of it will depend on the "do-re-mi".

Haggis can rightly ask for a premium. Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli (and their father before them) like to put their money into production values more than into "the hired help".

It is imperative for a good polisher like Haggis' caliber to be involved in the proceeding films.

I would venture to say that with the success of Casino Royale, the bar has been set and if you think about it, people will be looking to see if the writers can match what they did. They are also going to look for them to fall. (It seems to be human nature to tear down what one builds up) Therefore, I am hoping and assuming that they (TPTB) will do all they can to ensure a quality script.

And it doesn't hurt that Daniel Craig seems to have a voice in the process. So I will be optimistic for an excellent character driven story and perhaps a modest (albeit a very small one) increase in a gadget here or there if needed.

I hope that they can entice Paul Haggis to return to do another script polish for Bond 22. The dialogue that he brought to the Casino Royale script was top-notch, easily some of the best in the series, and I think that they should make every effort to bring him back to do similar work on the next script. Or, if they can't get him back, then they need to go get someone of just as high of caliber to keep the quality of the next film in line with CR.

That clinches it then doesn it. Daniel Craig has said in the press that he would never have signed on if the script was anything close to resembling Die Another Day. If he approves of the script that will be a good sign in my opinion :)
