Oh, come on, who wouldn't want to bed Judi Dench?

Some young wannabe "00" who said, "Instead of the two kills, I'll sleep with you for guaranteed promotion".

So, was this a one-night stand? 'Cause where was this guy when Bond was breaking in? Hmmm...

I was pretty amused by that little gem. :)

To my way of thinking if M's got a bed buddy, more power to her. Especially if he's a younger man.

This is probably where in the film Campbell (supposedly) toyed with the idea of making M a lesbian? Hmmm?

I did do a double take when she answered the phone certainly, but then just figured it was her husband. Was a little odd though.

It was actually a younger man. M does have a toyboy. Campbell confirmed this and if you look closely, you can see the guy is young. Like the modern, unpatrician decor of M's flat, it is supposed to confound expectations.

Really... young? He looked older to me... but then again I didn't examine him.

Bet she did.

If there hadn't been such a colossal falling out, wouldn't this have been the perfect Brosnan cameo? Would have melted everyone's brain.

wasn't Connery supossed to make a cameo appearance ;, theres was rumours that he was to play a 'wuss' that hides under a table during a fight, the table could have been replaced with Bed covers :)

Perhaps that long-rumored cameo by Bill Clinton?

What really surprised me was that this wasn't discussed previously on the forums--if indeed anyone had known about it.

Very minor, but as this thread proves, something Bond fans will talk about!

So who on earth was M in bed with when she gets woken up by phone? Is she supposed to be married in the Benson novels? Did anybody else think the guy bore a striking resemblence to Geoffrey Palmer? Did my brain add what it would take to not feel like my grandma has a boyfriend? :)

Weird little detail, I'm interested to see if anybody else noticed this...

In The Facts Of Death, Raymond Benson mentions that M is divorced. Doesn't mention children. However, M herself says she has children in GoldenEye. So considering that Casino Royale is a reboot, the man in bed with her is either 1) her husband before their divorce or 2) a different M than GoldenEye's Barbara Mawdsley.

As for the man's age, I didn't really get a great look at him but I saw him as being in his late 50s or early 60s. But considering that Judi Dench is in her 70s then that would indeed make him a younger man, if not a boy toy.

For the record, though, I would have preferred seeing M being alone in her bed for whatever reason.

If it was Roger Moore or Sean Connery under those covers, it'd explain her relationship with Bond.

I agree with the second conclusion, but unless I'm mistaken, Barbara Mawdsley was never officially the name of Judi Dench's character in any film. That was Benson's invention, which we chose to believe as fanon. In any case, as you yourself say, CR is a reboot. Not a prequel. As a reboot, it does not prefigure the events of the Benson novels or the Brosnan films. It's a different universe altogether, so it's free to disregard any "fact" established about Bond up to this point.

Didn't Broccoli want to turn M into a lesbian and Daniel Craig protested LOL? I'm glad he did. Couldn't imagine M drinking from the furry cup, could you? :)

I already pointed this out, but later, to save itself from exploding, my brain replaced what is clearly a younger boytoy guy with Geoffrey Palmer :)

It was Michael G. Wilson in 'M's' bed. Why do you think he was arrested later on in the film. :)
