Although I have a strong feeling that my second viewing will bump it up to at least 9.

CR is a very, very good movie --- period --- and one in the upper echelon of Bond movies.
8.5 out of 10, rounding down to 8. I applaud the character development, but not so sure CR needed 2 hours, 24 minutes to do it. All else: superb.

What's so remarkable is that this is actually a good movie as well as a good Bond movie. Fantastic. I can see that those who would like another Moore or Brosnan style outing would be very dissappointed.

I personally loved it and it exceeded my hopes for a great Bond movie, not just that a great movie period, and I will say my fav of the year or at least my most enjoyable experience at the flicks in 2006
For the first time in 17 years, Bond begins again and hallelujah to that.

As a movie on its own merits, somewhere between 8 and 9. Clearly better in that regard than any of the others.

*falls off chair*Well having just seen it and being more than pleasantly surprised, I gave it a 10. Should be a 9 or a 9.5. But I have to give extra for proving me wrong and putting a smile on my face. Wow!
Let's not derail this thread, but do you give Craig at least passing marks?

With flying colours!!!! The thing about Craig is that he (wisely) didn't try to copy the other Bonds. He just played it straight and low key.
He wasn't slick or charming. But he was still likeable. I actually rooted for him. His performance reminded me why I love the character so much.
The thing about CR it's 'different' from other Bond films. But different in a good way. I should really thank you guys for giving me a hard time. I thought that if I was going to participate in the forum, and criticise Craig/CR I might as well see the film and know what I am talking about. And here I am fully converted!
By the way, that damn full length trailer didn't do Craig any favours. The person who cut it should be sacked.

Not too much of the James Bond theme which had been criminally overused in the Brosnan era and I am not sure why people complain about the theme song...I cannot stop humming it.
I am concerned though. I saw the movie with the regular public tonight and their reaction was very different from the audience at the press screening. Three people walked out during the torture scene and the end of the movie was met with silence.
As I was leaving I also heard more than one person complaining that it just wasn't a Bond movie.
