Ooh also Bond and Vesper sizing each other up on the train was brilliantly written (sorry - these moments keep coming back to me!)

Also - did anyone else absolutely LOVE the character of the rather camp Swiss Banker Mendel? The audience adored him at the screening I saw, laughed at every little thing he did. The best of the smaller roles!!

Yes, the Banker! I'd forgotten! He was very well played and could easily have derailed the drama of his scenes. He reminded me of the camp bellboy in MOONRAKER ("The president's suite"....."Is he?!")

i loved this one bit in it where bond has lost..and he just goes after 5 guys with one knife.. totally deathwish suicidal move..hes got this look in his eyes..when leiter stops him..as if to say - 'what are u thinking - this isnt you'..its just spinechilling. completely awesome.

bond is so cool .. but his judgement is skewered, off balance.. its almost primal feeling watching this guy go into battle.
i dont think ive ever seen a character like it.. fatalist one moment, loving life the next. i think indiana jones is maybe the best example? maybe john mclane.

lol i loved the bit at the end where the banker jokes to a recovering craig and green.. and bond smiles at himself.. he likes this guy. yeah the cinema i was in ( odeon london ) clearly loved it.

i loved it when bond gets distracted from the game by vesper..and temporarily loses it for a second!

when bond 1st walks into the small casino to get dimitrous.. he just owns that room, the way he stares at him at the poker table.

when bond puts on the tux!!! omfg.

when bond kills the guys on the stairs.. you just felt death in the room. it was raw. the way the guy actually looks like hes trying to kill craig... utter violent truth in that scene. jaw dropping. craig punches a wall halfway down as well.. and when he smashes against the wall... jesus. this was maybe the greatest single fight ive seen in a long while.

the opening fight ..not long enough but startling and intense. could be one of the most hardcore things ever committed to a mainstream film.

bonds smile as the terrorist blows himself up at the airport.

bonds last broken, questioning, desperate loving look at vesper underwater.

this is kind of intense for a 24 year old to say..but craig is one of the coolest , most sensational things i think ive ever seen grace the silver screen. totally british yet somehow crafted out of granite, hollywood legend, all the most classic cinematic leading men in one .. unique, mega-charismatic, minimal, pantherlike vulnerable, the ultimate dark star... he's got it all. what a choice.

That last hand, nearly killed me

Great line- not just b/c it was clever. The hidden meaning in the look Bond gives Le Chiffre

The best moment in the movie is right after "The Bitch is Dead"

When M asks him if Bond trusts anyone to which he replies "no." Then comes M's reply "I hope you learned you lesson."
Bond's final rite of passage as 007, IMO.

Three questions:

1 - Do we hear a shot after 007 menaces Mr. White? Or we just fade into the credits and teh movie ends ??

2 - How's the transition from the gunbarrel to the titles ?

3 - Why does 007 says "The job is done. The Bitch is dead" ??? He recieved orders to kill Vesper??

1. No, we are left to believe that he May Question Mr. White in the Opening of the next film

2. PTS then Gunbarrel & straight into Titles

3. No, he reports that the business with Le Chiffre is done. He had no ordes to kill her, and did not know of her betrayal until he found out the Money was being withdrawn. It wasn't until after the fact that MI6 became fully aware of her treason. Vesper's death is a sidenote that Bond sums up for his report to M.

Thanks. But, I mean, after 007 shots to the audience, and the blood scrolls down, what happens? The gunbarrel iris opens to show us the titles (as the 20 previous movies did with the PTS), or something different ?

No, the blood goes from translucent to opaque and bleeds down as the red turns into the background of the titles.

That banker was great. :)

I felt kind of embarassed being the only person in the theatre laughing when MGW was arrested.

The torture scene definitely takes the cake for it's brutality (you could hear every man in that theatre groan) and the sharp humor. "OHHHHHHHHHHHH! No! More to the right!" :P

For some reason the one line I can't get out of my head was Felix going "I'll have what he's having, minus the fruit" after Bond orders his drink. Just thought it was a funny lil line.

As for a scene, one that I think hasn't gotten much love was the little Bond/Dimitrius knife fight in the museum. The quiet intensity. The crowds passing by, oblivious to what's going on. Just a perfect, understated, Bond moment imo.

And yeah, put me in the Mendel camp. Funny little character. Especially surprising since I thought he might've been a baddie at first.

One thing that was pure classic Bond was every not-so-subtle remark that was tossed between Bond and Le Chiffre... Felt like we were back playing Chemin de Fer with Largo all over again...

Oscar! Oscar!! Oscar!!!

PTS: Bond turns to shoot the bad guy--cut to the gun barrel sequence. What a jolt!
7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777
Winning the early Aston Martin DB5 in a poker game. Didn't Bond win his Bentley the same way in the novel?
7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777
Bond and Vesper on the train:

Vesper: "I'm the MONEY."
Bond: "Every PENNY of it."

Money-Penny. The nods to the novel prevail.
7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777
At the poker table, when Bond gives the ingredients to his martini.

Another wink to the novel. Now the world knows how to make the proper Vesper. How many people rushed off to the liquor store for Gordon's gin, (Smirnoff) vodka, and Kina Lillet vermouth.

But is this a vodka martini?
7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777
The torture scene: "The whole world is going to know you died while scratching my balls."

Absolutely hillarious. THAT's the British stiff upper lip to a "tea."
7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777
"The bitch is dead."

And M replies: "Need I remind you about that defibrulator business. She must have offered the money in exchange for your life." (Or something like that.)

After hanging up. Bond contemplates M's insight about Vesper, the bitch. The scene is slight, but important to Bond's character. He is forced by M's words to consider that Vesper's love for him was indeed real. 7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777
"The name's Bond. James Bond."

Immediate cut to THE Bond Theme and credits. Yes Daniel, you truely deserve to utter those immortal words, you have well earned it!
7777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777777
"James Bond will return."

Like Malory's "King Arthur will return..."

This has always been done with Bond films, but this time, there is no next title. It's a full-stop exclamation-He Will Return!!!

And thank the Pinewood gods for that!

I don't know why EON couldn't have used a Bentley for the scene instead of the DB5. We already get a separate Astin Martin later in the film. I think it would have been nicer for 007 to have won a Bentley, but oh well.

I never got the money/penny reference before. Nice catch. Kind of nice. Now you got me trying to remember if someone mentions Q/Q Branch at all in the film. :)

The pre-title sequence-Brilliant, the way that it suddenly cuts back to Bonds kill made me jump. Also the look on Bonds face when he was drowning that man was slightly haunting...

The chase sequence-It was non-stop and simply fascinating!

The Stairwell fight-You could actually sense that Bond was in REAL danger. I loved the way the villain went beserk with the machete. Also, Bond bleeding is refreshing.

Bond and Vesper in the shower- I love this scene so much, the way that Vesper is even more effected by violence than Bond is(she is also new to it all).

The torture sequence- Probably my favourite sequence of the film. I was almost wetting my pants in fear for Bond at the beginning of the scene, then I was almost wetting my pants laughing at the line "The whole worlds gonna know you died scratching my balls!" HAHAHA! It was hilarious!

Vespers death- I actually felt like I was going to cry watching this. I really wanted Bond to revive Vesper. But I knew for a fact that she was dead and you could feel Bonds emotions for the first time ever.

"My names Bond. James Bond"-The best is saved till last. I was for some reason expecting the gunshot, but it still made me jump! All of this scene went PERFECTLY! The Bond theme creeping in as you see Bonds feet walking up the steps. Seeing Bond in his slick suit holding a silenced rifle, then silence as he delivers the line and then the boom of probably the best version of the James Bond theme tune...SUPERB!

Some good scenes are the Africa chase-brilliant acrobatics-and the ending-Bond James Bond over Mr. White with a UMP-you know he's gonna kick Mr. White's tachus in Bond 22.

The PTS wasn't very memorable, and the Miami scene was original and well-done, but not the film's peak. The ending including the suicide was beautifully done as well.

Bond bursting through the drywall during the Madagascar chase. That was hilarious!

The last scene...that snipe startled the living hell out of me...and I knew it was coming!

The shower scene.

"Do I look like I give a damn?"

Bond shooting Gettler with the nail gun then ripping the nail in his arm out.

The torture scene, friggen hilarious and very brutal.

The dispatch of Carlos, that was sweet!
