Don't even say it! SHE will have you killed!

Yeah, I never really understood that comment.

They are alone right? And he already seems to know her real name anyway, so why bother with the pretence of security?

If you listen carefully Bond says "I had no idea it stood for Maw...", then M's cuts him off. So I assume it is Mawdsley.

"Maw Baker"

Yes. The only reason she doesn't let him say it, is because then the audience would know what she's called. Still, it got a laugh in the cinema.

That's always been my suspicion.

Seems to me that the film makers simply want to leave it unsaid. Perhaps she's Lady Messervy.

As said its Barbara Mawdsley (might have spelt it wrong) in Benson's books but M is the code. I always assumed 007 is about to saw Mawdsley in CR.

I also seem to remember reading somewhere that this name was created for the GoldenEye film but never used (much as Miles Messervy was never used) until the novels. Not sure how true this is though!

Be careful, you might alert the Sun (or other tabloids) to this very credible rumour

"M" stands for Mud if she threatens to "have Bond killed" again.

I'll add a vote for "Moneypenny." That would be a nice tribute to Lois Maxwell, who always angled for a female "M."

And it would shut up everyone who whines that there's no Moneypenny in the Craig films.
