At first I thought it was just me, because when I asked other people who saw the film they said they didn't hear it - but doesn't anyone else think the way he says *JAMES* in the line sounds very Connery - as if he was putting his accent on?
It's like;
The name's Bond... Jameshh Bond.
I was so glad when I finished seeing the film for my 4th time tonight (and first time for a mate I went to see it with) that he said to me as soon as we walked out that he thought Craig delivered it in a slight Connery accent as well.
I thought I was going mad.
Whether it's just me and my mate - I don't care - I love it!

it sounded like he was actually saying his name. classic moment. a great finish to a great film.
Well I've seen it now ( a bunch of times!) and I must say I agree with everyone who described it as "perfect". He really really nailed it.
I completly agree with Bucky. It didn't sound like it was some cliche line (as when Brosnan did it) it sounded like he was saying his name. Daniel Craig is James Bond!

His is a very British reading of the line (which is the whole point, but it sounds especially so after listening to Brosnan). Very authentic. Gave me the chills.
Agreed about the Britishness of the delivery.... But just to nitpick... I think it would have been better if he said "My name is Bond....James Bond" instead of "The name is Bond...."
Would have been more classy/British I think.

When I saw CR for the 3rd time with my friend (I've seen it 4 times now) I recorded the ending 'Bond, James Bond' line on my phone and listened to it and for some reason he sounds EXACTLY like Sean Connery. Like when I first heard him say it I thought that he hasn't sounded like anybody that said it before, but if you listen to it on my phone you would think it is Sean Connery without a doubt. Maybe The Admiral wasn't crazy!
Precisely. Exactly like Connery, Scottish accent and all. (can't help remembering sir Roger saying that whenever he rehearsed the line, he couldn't help giving it a scottish accent...)
Just like the "wouldn't dream of it" line was exactly like Brosnan's...
I don't know if he did it deliberately, or if he was just imitating subconciously or if it was just coincidence, though.
I 'll try to find Rogerisms when I see it for the 4th time. Maybe Danny was paying tribute to his predecessors (an injoke perhaps?)

In the Ocean Club, when he's talking to the receptionist about Dimitrios' car. "But if I felt...compelled to?" Reminded me of Roger (in a good way, for those who know I normally don't care for his portrayal).I 'll try to find Rogerisms when I see it for the 4th time. Maybe Danny was paying tribute to his predecessors (an injoke perhaps?)

Agreed. I think, other than Craig, Brosnan is the only other actor to say, "The name`s Bond...James Bond" and that was in GoldenEye, (though he made up for it in my book, in TND by saying "Bond...James Bond").
All the other actor`s have said it a different way to Craig/Brosnan. "Bond...James Bond" (Connery in Dr. No - Dalton in TLD), or "My name is Bond...James Bond." (Moore in LALD) or "My name`s Bond, James Bond." (Lazenby in OHMSS).
Whilst I also agree Craig delivered the line well, to have Bond say his name as "The name`s Bond...James Bond" is just too sloppy, IMHO.
Best

So, for that reason, "Bond. James Bond." wouldn't be a fitting response.
I could see "My name is..." working as well as "The name's...". I think the latter brings more cinematic power, if it is a little less proper.
Incidentally, I think of the final scene less a part of CR as I do a teaser for the next film.

Normally I'd agree with that, but given that Mr. White asked "who is this?", simply replying "Bond, James Bond" after a twenty second wait would have been ludicrously silly. This is one of the few (only?) times where it actually made sense to start with "the name's".Whilst I also agree Craig delivered the line well, to have Bond say his name as "The name`s Bond...James Bond" is just too sloppy, IMHO.
Craig's delivery only improves it, as he says it with authority, confidence, and ease, as if it's his actual name (I'm sure we agree on this point). But what I like best about it is that the brief pause between "Bond" and "James Bond" that usually annoys me finally worked this time, as Craig used it to change his tone ever so slightly, allowing that smug sense of satisfaction to really sink in, before finishing off his introduction with even greater authority and confidence. The line has never carried so much weight and significance.
And between "my name's" and "the name's", I'll take the more cinematic and just plain cooler of the two, thank you very much.

Funny how similar our posts are. I won't press charges
One point you brought up which I really like is re: his smug satisfaction between "Bond" and "James Bond". I wonder if Craig was going for a real moment there... as if right during that pause, he realizes he likes the sound of his name said that particular way. As if his inner thoughts were saying, "Yeah... that's right. I think I'll be saying my name like that from now on".

Well put, and exactly what I was getting at. Not only was he really relishing the moment, but his Bond was, something we haven't seen very often over the years, and that I think Craig is thankfully bringing back as part of his more humanistic portrayal. One point you brought up which I really like is re: his smug satisfaction between "Bond" and "James Bond". His delivery is perfect, getting to see him become Bond is far more exciting than all of the last 4 bond films put together.
All other Bond's have been given it with no real earning of the priviledge, some have deserved it but we get to see DC recieve is reward and boy did he deserve it.
Bond 22 will be when we get to see Craig's Bond..James Bond
