It'll upset a few fans. It's a tad different...

Only the fans who are upset that it's been moved off the start of the film. Or that the Bond theme doesnt pop up till the credits.

i think it looks cool - much more metallic, more cold and more lethal than before. once we see it on the big screen fully rendered with the reflections of bond i bet it will rock.. don't worry about it! this film is putting care into everything- the idea its looks in any way shoddy is ridiculous. this isnt some cgi nonsense or lame retro style throwback- this is stylised heightened realism. it looks dark, modern. i like.

At first I didn't know what to think of it, but after looking at it again, it looks awesome. It's cool to see a modernized real gun barrel. :)

I like the new gunbarrel. It is familiar yet strikingly different. The overall tone of Casino Royale.

I have been waiting for a new take on the gunbarrel, and I like the look of this new version though I'll like to see it in motion.

It looks even better in motion. Watch Pt. III of 'Becoming Bond' on YouTube and it will be at about the 6:35 mark. It's looking really good.

Precisely what I have been thinking. I personally like the new gunbarrel. It is a familiar element, just tweeked a little to update it. I hope they run with this one for at least DC's tenure as Bond.

Seen it on the big scren, yes it works for THIS movie, just like the bullet for 'Die Another Day'.Maybe thats why the dots & gunbarrel were missing as Pierce Brosnan after 20 films finally killed the mystery assassin!!
I sincerly hope though that for Bond 22 we have the dots before the gunbarrel with the Bond theme.I missed the dots for Casino Royale, but seeing as it was such a good movie I'll let it pass.Just remember a Bond film has to have the Bond theme & a gunbarrel,or you may as well have another 'Never Say,Never Again' brrrrrrrrrrr.
Please Barbara & Michael don't abandon the opening, its the stuff legends are made of.

Why? Why must every Bond film have the gunbarrel? Not knocking it, as I quite like it. But this notion that a Bond film must have certain things off of a check list is really starting to confound me.

And the fact that NSNA has no gunbarrel doesnt make it any less of a Bond film. Is it not a film about a secret agent named James Bond?

I don't understand the panicked responses. I think it's an interesting new look. Its asymmetry has a genuine, stylish coarseness that we haven't seen since before the 1995 revamp. I was getting bored with the Brosnan-era gunbarrels, which IMO are slick, plastic, and fake-looking.

It works great with the film and much better on the big screen. Including the blood dripping. Just saw the movie too. Verdict it was great. Want to see it again.

It wasn't that bad at all, very brief. However, I'd like to see a more traditional return-to-form for the next one.

No, there is no rule set by God that says a Bond film must have a gunbarrel or the Bond theme or M or Q or a Bond girl or a villain or fantastic cars or Vodka Martinis shaken not stirred, etc, etc... But would you really want to see a Bond film that has none of that checked off your checklist? Without that stuff we get Ice Cube in XXX.

That stuff is as important to the enjoyment of a Bond film as turkey and family and football is to Thanksgiving. Would you enjoy celebrating Thanksgiving as much with strangers in McDonalds watching a tennis match?

There are essential elements to a Bond film that have always been a part of the films...that's why they have been in the public consciousness for forty years. If this confounds you, then you have no sense of tradition. At Wimbledon they wear white, at the Indy 500 the winner drinks milk, at the theater the players take a curtain call, in Bond films there is a gunbarrel. No reason for any of this at all...just tradition. Odd that tradition and ceremony means little to you.

I love the new gunbarrel look...I just wasn't fond of the blood effect, it looked good for going into the main titles with it's highly stylistic look but if/when they move it back to the beginning of the movie I'd like to see the dark red transparent, more real looking blood effect.

I liked the gunbarrel, but not the blood effect. It looked too three-dimensional to me.

I think it looked 3-D because by that time it was already part of the title sequence...my take on it anyway!

After seeing it in the film, it looks very cool, although I hope they'll go back to the traditional one in the next film. I wonder how Craig will look in a traditional one. :)

I think they'll go back to the traditional one for Bond 22. I can't imagine seeing the "diamond-looking" one from Casino Royale crossing the screen. I think it was purposefully done that way to transition to the "card world" hence why the blood was noticeably fake.

So "tradition and ceremony" (literal translation: formula) are more important than story, character, and innovation?

Basically, too many grooves. The original style, used up until DAD was more authentic, the only barrel I've seen with as many grooves as the CR one was in an old cannon.
