-Both are the first film for the actor playing Bond.
-Both will go down in history as the longest films of the series (for now).
-Both are wildly different from what came before.
-Both have some of the best action sequences of the series.
-Both involve Bond falling in love (Bond says "I love you" in both films).
-Both involve the girl dieing at the end (Tracy is shot to death, Vesper commits suicide).
-Both involve Bond coming to the realization that his job won't allow him to get close to anyone (though I think OHMSS is more subtle about it).
That's the ones I could come up with, anyone else have any that I missed?

Both involve a suicide attempt. (One successful, one not.)
Both involve Bond going to a residence of M's.
Both involve Bond's use of a normal Aston Martin DBS.
Neither involve much, if any, gadgetry.

I think MattofSteel meant that ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE is a terrific 007 film, and CASINO ROYALE is shaping up to be a terrific 007 film. Two statements which I strongly agree with!!
Exactly what I meant:).
Poor, underrated Laz's film. That never happened to the other fellers.
....
Well maybe Tim:).

- Both contain a wild, high-speed nightime car chase (featuring an Aston Martin DBS) through winding roads.
- Precipitation falls in both films.

I think you're wrong. Didn't Vesper only make one attempt to commit suicide and it was from...Not just any suicide attempts, but Vesper and Tracy both try to commit suicide by
Spoiler. That's a really neat parallel they put in the script.

or are you talking about the script version?

Incidentally, as this thread is in the spoiler forum (and I even pointed out in the subject line that there will be extreme spoilers) I doubt we need to spoiler tag anything

but on that subject, is Vesper definately going to die drowning in that elevator instead of doing it the sleeping pills way like in the book?

Yes.

-
The nighttime car chase in OHMSS was with Tracy's Cougar, not the AM BDS

I'm betting she dies in the Elevator. Suicide may be too heavy...
Well, she does die in the elevator, but it is a suicide. She has every chance to allow Bond to save her, yet she resists him.

But will that be obvious.. like later Bond finds out about her real secret and realizes that she did it on purpose... or do we have to assume it?

Oh yes, it's obvious that she wanted to die and we do learn about her secrets.

Interesting points.Just thinking about it for a moment, and I've realized both CR and OHMSS have a lot more in common than one realizes at first:

-Both will go down in history as the longest films of the series (for now).
-Both are wildly different from what came before.

Craig like Lazenby is something of an underdog following in the footsteps of a very popular Bond.
Bit of a loose one this. The free running sequence in Casino Royale seems reminisant of that rooftop chase that was deleted from OHMSS.

And in addition: Both James Bond actors have/had to face a massive negative campaign from the press. (Which led Lazenby to resign from the role. But fortunately this will not happen this time: Craig did a great job and he knows it
