Latest news from TVShowsonDVD is that the set has been delayed-no new release date yet.
Simultaneous release with MI3 probably. I was wondering why no one else was reporting this set.
M:I 3 will be released October 30th. Still no news on whether M:I S1 will be released the same day.

Anywho, the first season on DVD is bloody awesome, just a pity they haven't got any of the other seasons available yet. No doubt, it'll only take a few more months though, until we hear of more to come. There's no doubt I'm gonna go straight out and buy this one!
I dunno about everyone else, but I really like Steven Hill as an actor, in both Law & Order and as Dan Briggs. He's very underrated IMO. I love Peter Graves in the role, however he received many more accolaids than Hill did. I suppose this is fair though, considering he stayed in the role a lot longer!

Warning: If you don't like to think while watching something, you may not like the original TV show.

If you have never seen the original show and have doubted how truly different the TV show and the movies really are - then check out the TV show and see which one you like best.
My vote is for the TV show, not Tom's action flicks by the same name.

Regards

It is available for pre-order on Amazon.com (at a discounted cost of $34.99, instead of the $49.99 retail price).
Interesting how it is coming out AFTER Tom Cruise has been dumped from the M:I franchise. I know Cruise had total control over M:I during his "reign." Maybe he didn't want his lackluster movie series to be shown for what it was if the TV series was released during that time.

Topics merged and, as you can see, the series release on dvd was announced before Paramount fired Cruise so, its release has nothing to do with Cruise.Interesting how it is coming out AFTER Tom Cruise has been dumped from the M:I franchise. It has been announced twice in the past, but kept being "pushed back" until Cruise was ejected.
I'm not claiming to know this for a fact, but it seems like quite a strange coincidence. Just like, why did they wait until now to release one of the most popular TV shows of all time on DVD, when it has been the hot trend to release TV series on DVD for the last few years.

It's simply one of the greatest TV shows ever and has a great theme song by Lalo Schiffrin which was used in the M:I films. The show ran from the mid-1960s to the early '70s and predominantly starred Peter Graves, Martin Landau, Barbara Bain, Greg Morris, and Peter Lupus. Other starring roles over the years went to Steven Hill, Leonard Nimoy, Lesley Ann Warren, Lynda Day George, and Sam Elliott. An updated version with Graves, Thaao Penghlis, Phil Morris, Anthony Hamilton, and Terry Markwell, who was later replaced by Jane Badler, ran in the late '80s. Simply a great, great seriesI didn't even know there was a M.I. t.v series!
Interesting. I have got to check it out.

Please don't say that lol. The TV series is so far superior to the films it's not funny. The TV series is probably in my top two or three tv shows. I'm waiting in earnest for December, I'm gonna go straight out and buy season 1, but in the mean time I've been watching my small collections of eps. A few years back I taped about half of season 2 onto VHS, from Fox Classics in Oz. I love Peter Graves, but I probably like Steven Hill even more, because he was a long serving cast member for another one of my favourite TV series' Law & Order. It's a pity Dan Briggs wasn't in it longer.I didn't even know there was a M.I. t.v series!

I read in the book "The Complete Mission: Impossible Dossier" that Steven Hill was canned after the first season because he had become too difficult to deal with. He is an Orthodox Jew and by his religion is not supposed to work after sunset on Friday. Since M:I was so complex (essentially a mini-movie shot every week) they would inevidably shoot well past midnight on Friday every week. Near the end of the season, they started using Briggs just in the opening and not during the actual mission.
I highly recommend the book "The Complete Mission: Impossible Dossier" by Patrick J. White. It covers all 168 TV episodes (7 seasons), plus "The New Mission: Impossible" TV series (1988-1990) that lasted two seasons (the one starring an older Peter Graves and Greg Morris' son as Barney's son).

Just because it's coming out now on DVD doesn't mean that Cruise kept it from being released. Sometimes it might be a rights issue. The Spider-Man films are pretty much printing money and yet, so far, the only ancillary release has been the original '67 animated series. Spider-Man & His Amazing Friends, the Fox animated series, and the CBS live action tv-series still have yet to see the light of day.I'm not claiming to know this for a fact, but it seems like quite a strange coincidence. Thanks for that mate.

As for the 'New' MI, that was filmed in my home city! About the only decent thing made in the city. I hope one day Bond will visit Melbourne...but unlikely. Anyhow, that's beside the point. I'll have a search for the book.

Nice comeback, Diabolik. I'm trying not to be an apologist for Cruise but, until someone can quote the article that states that Cruise was able to block the original series from being released on dvd, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.Whatever.

The first season is listed as a seven disc set, but there doesn't seem to be any extras included. Anyone know anything about this?
Looking at the back-cover artwork TVshowsonDVD.com posted in August, it doesn't look like there are any extras planned, sadly. I guess that's not necessarily proof (they may change stuff by the time it gets put out) but I'm certainly not expecting any extras.

That's what I've been reading, too. I suppose that paramount's otherwise excellent Wild, Wild west season one set is an anomaly. I hope there are extras for season two of that show, if it ever comes out. Ditto for Hawaii Five-O.
Oh well, at least the discs aren't double sided!

Or maybe I'm holding out hope for extras eventually where there are none!

Giving Paramount the benefit of the doubt, maybe they want to keep the costs down on Season One, if they fear it might not sell as well without Peter Graves in it (thus not being the version of the show most people would remember)
Or maybe I'm holding out hope for extras eventually where there are none!
I've been back and forth on whether or not to get season one, which I've never seen; Patrick J. White's M:I "dossier" book mentions humor and elements not abundantly present in the "Graves Years." I hope they'll at least make it through the Leonard Nimoy as paris seasons (four and five), to say nothing of those early Seventies "Syndicate" shows, which I love. Lynda Day George, yum!

No frills or extras BUT beautifully restored to it former glory and with Dolby 5.1 stereo remixed sound.
Great season. Too bad Mr. Hill didn't stick around for season two.
No extras. Even Wild, Wild West had SOME extras. Oh, well, at least they've finally starting issuing these. Tom Cruise's reign is truely over!

Maybe so, but Graves > Hill in my opinion. There can only be one.
I wonder when Season 2 is going to be released.....

Picked it up Tuesday. I'm about half way through it.

I'll be watching my set during the Christmas break, and since I've never seen the "Briggs Era", it'll all be new to me!
M:I was never character driven, so be it Phelps or Briggs, no matter; it's all about the mission, IMO.
I thought that Wild, Wild west was generous with the extras. It'll be interesting to see what they do for season two, if anything.

Yeah, well don't rejoice too fast : all new remasters of this season just cut out parts of the pilot, and literaly duplicate twice the same opening sequence on two different episodes, probably due to damaged negatives (ie one episode opening sequence is replaced by another, the tape scene). The videos were already that way, and I'm 100% sure it will come out CUT the same way. To spot the cut, it's simple : in the pilot, right before going to hear the audio tape, Briggs speaks to the lady. In all subsequent airings and videos, the dialogue is cut. Same when he leaves the place.
So, anyone notice any cuts in the pilot? I'll have to look for that. If it's an instance of a damaged negative, then it's not really a "problem."
