This is my FAVOURITE Bond movie. It is amazing. All those punks out there who are saying that "Casino Royale" is the greatest Bond movie, and that Daniel Craig is the best Bond, should really check this BAD BOY out.
I agree with everything said in the opening post. It is truly my favourite, and a classic.
Hell, I even enjoyed the PlayStation2 game!

<recording>
Tatiana: "Oh, James. Will you make love to me..."
Bond: "Yes, night and day. Go on about the LECTOR."

Oh man... the way Connery nails that line is just beautiful.
THAT is humor!

This one is my favorite of Connery's. I love the secret agent code:

"Pardon me, do you have a match?..."

I love the brief case with tear gas, coins ammo, and knife. Fantastic all around.

Anyone notice how Connery's hair was almost pitch black in this film? In Dr. No and his later films, it was a fair brown, but it seemed really dark in FRWL. Anybody catch this?

I think what makes this movie so great is something lacking from most Bond movies save "Casino Royale" (which had the Ugandans). It had a substantial B-plot nearly unrelated to the main plot that was just as engrossing.

This is definitely one of my favorites. It has a classic cold war story line, great locations, a good PTS, & an excellent score by John Barry. This is one of those movies that gets overlooked by the occasional Bond viewer because it doesn't have all the gadgets & over the top stunts.

FRWL just came out in the Ultimate Edition DVD sets this past week in the US. I have it on tap for a Sunday afternoon viewing. :)

A classic movie no doubt. Drags a bit in places, and Im not a fan of the villain, but its definately one of the greats. In my top 5 behind Casino Royale, Thunderball, License To Kill and Goldeneye.

The movie, my favorite, has a wonderful sense of atmosphere. As in the novel, we all know that Bond is being manipulated by forces he's unaware of, and we see him matching wits with a powerful, shadowy foe that thinks it's got him playing out its game. And always lurking in the shadows is the malevolent presence of Red Grant, a silent killer who we know is waiting the right moment to take Bond on, one-on-one. Add to that the exotic background of Turkey, the underground reservoir, the gypsy camp, the Haiga Sofia, and, of course, the Orient Express, and you can see why I love this movie.

It does capture a time and places many people had no idea about due to the Cold War. Not to throw in a gratuitous TWINE bash here, but that film suffered when the series went back to similar territory years later. There was just no mystique or exotic appeal by the time of that film.

I would like to see a study done on these elements of FRWL if anybody would like to take a stab.

Anyone notice how in the Orient Express scenes, Tatiana seems to be talking to herself, but there's no sound? What's going on with this?

She's just trying to softly pronounce her new name Caroline Sommerset in order to get used to it.

TWINE never really showed enough of Istanbul on-screen, except for the Bosphorus. Everything else was studio.

I agree with all the positives posted above. FRWL is Sean Connery's finest 007 film and a strong contendor for the best in the entire series.

I would also add that Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana Romanova has to be the most naturally beautiful of all the Bond girls.

Cheers,

Mark :cooltongue:
