You're so right.Bond is a spy - I can not imagine any spy doing their jobs properly without a mobile and a computer - they do have a use.
It must have been a remarkable coincidence for SONY when they first realized this fact.

My opinion, of course, but I think a lot more people share it than the popular rhetoric would lead you to believe. The self-parodying Bond we've seen over the years is a relic and a boring joke, but it's always a thrill to see the spy Bond triumph over an obstacle using little more than his wits and cajones. I think enough people agree with me, and that there's a consequently high enough demand, that moving more in the direction of character-centric action-adventure (a la FYEO) and away from the nonsense of the "push buttons in order Q told me to make bad guys go bye-bye" mentality (a la YOLT) that it will pay off rather well.
As for the practical gadgets, it's only logical. Expecting Bond to not use a cell phone or laptop nowadays is like expecting him to not use land-line phones in 1962 or to switch from a Beretta to a Walther. When technological improvements arise, any self-respecting government agent, slightly fantastic or down-to-earth, will make use of them to keep up with the opposition, which is guaranteed to be doing likewise. You can only stray so far from this common sense expectation before you're presenting a full-on, LOTR-esque fantasy instead of a mostly realistic spy story.

The good thing is that in that little tech trailer the screens look better than usual. I hope it's an indicator of how it looks in the move.

These spies might want to think twice about the use of "gadgets". Those CIA guys that did that snatch in Italy left an electronic trail behind them due to their gadgets, i.e., cell phones, hotel loyalty programs, etc.

I wouldn't know, but I personally doubt it. It sounds too derivative of the Bond theme, and I was under the impression the CR theme was to be based on YKMN, which this doesn't sound like at all to my ears. It's a catchy enough little tune, but I would still prefer the background music from the "making of" clips on the official website.Forgive me if this has been asked already, but could the music be Arnold's new Craig-era theme tune that he says was inspired by the OHMSS theme? It reminds me of it a lot, or at least the version he did with Propellerheads. It sounds like the sort of thing Arnold would come up with, and, while in general I'm not a fan of his work, I think it's pretty good.

Yes, I have no interest in seeing the movie that the theatrical trailer was advertising, but this movie advertized here - I'd love to see that!
They should put this one in the theaters and chuck that awful theatrical trailer.

Personally, I think seeing him use a laptop is quite refreshing. It's about time.Anyway, ultra hi-tec technology and blinking displays have been done to death in spy/action films for the last 50 years, and less is always better for Bond.
Well he used one in GoldenEye in the hideously out of place bit of product placement for IBM, I think!

Just look at the shot 00:34 into the trailer, the camera doesn't zoom into the laptop screen, it zooms into the 'Vaio' logo! Its laughable!

Am I the only one that has a problem with all the shameless sony advertising? Its not classy at all - blatantly obvious, and unrealistic that every item of technology would be manufactured by them. If I see a SONY logo during CR its going to feel like an advert, which I find distracting.
After the car TV set in You Only Twice and the shop window in Golden Gun, I've learnt to live with it.
I do agree about the Vaio bit though; not sure what's going on there....

Okay, after a naff teaser and a naff theatrical trailer, how bizarre that it is a product placement trailer that really gets me excited for CASINO ROYALE.

Given your exceptionally high post count, I would have thought that you would go see Casino Royale regardless of how you felt about the trailers.
Could it be that this promo has piqued your interest because there's footage of the behind the scenes location shoots incorporated into the piece?
That shot of Campbell deleriously counting down to action, for example, makes the blood boil.
Honestly, what did you find so 'naff' about the full theatrical trailer? The last third of it was absolutely spine tingling and left me at the edge of my seat in anticipation!

Can anyone download this for a desktop
Try 'Videodownloader'. It's a plugin for Firefox that lets you take files from YouTube.

I've been thinking about starting a thread on this topic - maybe this isn't the place - if you break down YKMN in yoru head to an instrumental version...does anyone else actually hear the Bond theme? Itself? Those opening chords certainly remind me of "Da da DUM", or whatever you call the opening brass hits (that start the DAD gunbarrel, for example). And if you listen to the chorus...I can here a melody that is very close to the guitar riff.

The gun fire and scaffolding falling sounded realistic (the scafolding fell in real time as well). We all know what these things sound like with CNN and 24 hour news etc so its nice to see EON finally acknowledge that in the Bond series. I just hope that this remains and the bits we heard were not from the 'making of' cameras/microphones. Nothing worse then a gun sounding like a rocket launcher as the A-team circa 1986.
I am even more excited after seeig this. Although the music was abit dodgy as well as M's bedside table.

I think it's the music from the Backseat driver in TND...
Is it? It didn't appear to be to me.

Yes, very much so. In particular, towards the end, the song seems as though it's going to go straight into the "dum-diddle-dum-dum-dum-dum-dum" bit and basically become a full-on version of The James Bond Theme.
