Stumbled across mention of this in another thread on CBn. For those wanting to check out a demo version of the Ace of Base song for GoldenEye played over the main titles, click here.

Most of the comments on the song (in that link) seem to prefer this version more than 'The Juvenile' version.

I like the Turner/Bono one featured in the film a LOT better than this.... however this isn't too bad at all as a Bond song

I prefer this to the Tina Turner version. :)

Really, the music is great, but the lyrics not so.

I don't get it why does it still say Tina Turner in the credits? Was this song considered and never made the cut?

Someone got their hands on the song and they just played it over the titles. That's it. This sort of thing is usually decided upon well in advance so that Kleinman can go and sync an entire CG title sequence to the music, that's why GoldenEye, TWINE, and DAD work pretty well in that context (I don't like DAD's theme, but it does sync pretty well). TND is kind of a different story. It syncs and then it doesn't in others, IMHO. Renard, I believe proved that it also syncs with k.d. Lang's song which was initially considered.

Anyway, Ace of Base was considered, that's about it though.

Am I the only person who thinks this song is crap?

I do not like it myself especially when compared to Tina Turner's song which is the best of the Brosnan era and probably my favorite going all the way back to Nobody Does It Better, although there are clearly songs in between that I like.

It's not the greatest out there. Personally it would probably be better to use "The Juvenile" instead. Although I'm now curious...

It would've needed a tad of polish on the lyrics (verse variation between verse 1 and 2) and something to replace the line 'We're in the 90s'. Add a proper recording by Ace of Base as opposed to their demo stand ins and it might have rocked the socks off Turner/Bono song. (It does imo, at least the lyrics make sense in this one as opposed to Turners, and the music is equally good if not better)

The Juvenile is a good song, this version isn't that good. That being said, it would be interesting to see someone sync The Juvenile to the credit sequence to see what a properly recorded version could have been like.

Yeah, definitely way better than Tina Turner's version. And the lyrics here somehow actually make more sense than the demo...

EDIT: Oh, and picture Timothy Dalton's name in the credits. I think the style of this song fits his Bond rather well.

I agree, The finished "Juvenile" version would have made a great opening credits song. Its too bad things fell through the way they did. Although, I can live with Tina Turner's song, I just don't pay too much attention to the lyrics.

I like it, especially the more polished "Juvenile" version. I wouldn't want it to replace Turner's work- imo the best of the "modern" Bond songs- but I'd take it instead of Crow's limp TND any day of the week.

Here's the thing: Usually when a song is featured in the Bond titles, it's usually shortened/edited to fit the credits.

I tried to do this myself but I just couldn't find good editing that didn't either make it go out-of-synch or sound choppy. But I would remove the second verse, keep the reprise of the chorus, and make it start using the segment at 2:30 when you start seeing the gold background and flying Soviet flags. So the end of the song ends right as it zooms into the gunbarrel, then onto the road.

No, it's a dire off-cut of a song with no 'Bond-ness' to it at all. It sounds like something a Bond computer game would reject...

Anyway, why are we not surprised? Ace Of Base.....?!!!
