As far as I can be bothered to understand it this is the start of a new series of James Bond films - Series 2.

Right, it's a restart, as has been explained by EON.

In terms of Casino Royale the previous 20 movies do not exist.

Yet. Or yet?

Which is where it could get messy timeline wise.

I'm sure someone could say that Casino Royale takes place before the events of Dr. No if they wanted to. There's only one snafu, Bond meets Leiter for the first time in Casion Royale, seem a bit odd for him to then meet Leiter again during his next mission.

That iMDb plot summery has now changed to this:

Continuing on from the events of Casino Royale, James Bond must find who the mysterious Mr. White was really working for.

Fanwankery= Felix Leiter is a codename.

There's only been a limited continuity of actors anyway with Hedison being the only one to have reprised his role (yet).

Another issue is that (apparently) we see Bond get his 00 status, however in Dr. No he's already a secret agent.

Other factors such as the Russian army in Afghanistan (instead of the US Army), the references to Cold War and Soviet Union and the use of the gold standard (which was abolished in 1971) etc etc already date the original series so that it cannot any longer be in the present day.

Interesting that the LRA just signed a truce with Uganda.

OR the 20 films are over and done with. Time for a new direction where we ACTUALLY see the literary Bond in action.

But I'd rather perfer a Union type idea instead of the LDR.

EON will start doing Special Editions in the vein of George Lucas's Star Wars Spesial Editions. So, I'd say in the future edition of Dr.No Felix Leiter will be removed and Sean Connery will be replaced with Daniel Craig, so the movies will have adequate continuum

:)

This is a restart in very much the same vein of Batman Begins. The way I look at it going by the new countinuity the past 20 films didn't happen. End of story. It's not a bad thing IMO. It's not like they are taking away the past film, you need just toss one into the dvd player to relive the classic Bond which I will continue to do. Casino Royale really is a rebirth of the franchise sheadding away the baggage of the last 20 films and starting anew. It's seems alot of the concerns for the new direction and reboot are from those who are scared of change. We have gotten the same old formula for so long that some of us refuse to accept the change and I know it's going to be hard but I think we got to go into CR with an open mind. I hear so many say that if you strip away all the things that from the last 20 films i.e Q, Moneypenny, the gadgets etc then all we get is an average action film with a character named Bond and not a ture BOND film. I'll say this, I'd much rather have a great action film with a strong story and a character named Bond than a medicore BOND film.

Interesting that the LRA just signed a truce with Uganda.

Which also makes their appearance in Bond 22 unlikely.

The LRA may appear again in the same way Agend Spriggan Ominae mentioned since
Spoiler
.

If you ask me I would say Bond 22 will keep on the subject of financing terrorism and will go on with Mr. White.
Spoiler

Well you see the thing that makes a return of the LRA really unlikely is..
Spoiler

As for my theroy on Bond 22 I think it will be more about who is White working for if any and what is there agenda? The villains appear to be European but what do do they really intend to gain from supporting various terror groups and what is the full scope of this operation? I smell a new SPECTRE esque group coming. :)

Also, I don't believe the LRA is ever referred to by name in CASINO ROYALE, therefore the audience wouldn't know who this African terrorist organisation actually was.
