'...more aggressive than any other Bond theme has been, maybe since Paul McCartney...'

http://www.billboard...t_id=1002950157

The Bond track, "You Know My Name," came as a surprise to fans -- and to Cornell himself. "I just got a call," he recalls, "and at first I thought there must be some kind of mistake." But after seeing the script and studying up on the new Bond actor, Daniel Craig, Cornell decided "I'm actually the right guy for the job. Everybody I met with said the same thing -- 'This isn't anything like any other James Bond film, so we don't really want that song, either. So go do whatever you want.'"

Cornell co-wrote "You Know My Name" with longtime Bond composer David Arnold and describes it as "more uptempo and a little more aggressive than any other Bond theme has been, maybe since Paul McCartney ['Live and Let Die']. It has an orchestra, but it also has some angry sounding guitar, and it's got feedback."

Sounds pretty dang cool to me. Guessing that'll be our new action theme.

Sounds very promising. More aggressive than Paul McCartney and Live and Let Die, eh? Hmmm... :) Awesome!

This will be great. A theme that will not only sound absolutely brilliant as a theme for the action-based parts of the soundtrack, but i'm guessing it'll work as an outstanding quieter theme too. With Cornell's style of writing, I wouldnt be suprised if Arnold easily uses the tune in a jazzed up style for some Casino music - would sound great.

Sounds good to me :) I have no problems with an upbeat theme. Will be interesting to see how it is integrated into the rest of the soundtrack, especially in the scenes that requires slower paced music.

George Martin seemed to manage it pretty easily with Live and Let Die. :)

Sounds excellent. Something like this is what I want for the theme. Go Chris!

It could work. I hope it works. But the "angry guitar" comment does not bode well, at least for me.

Very promising. I like it when Bond songs are unique and break the mold (ala LIVE AND LET DIE), so I hope this doesn't disappoint.

Great! Enough of the Bassey/Goldfinger pastiches. It's time someone just wrote a great song instead of trying to make it "sound like a Bond song."

Well, as long as it isn't like Madonna's effort, which doesn't sound like a Bond song either. :)

Well, Zencat did say somebody should write a "great song" - which Madonna's song certainly wasn't, period.

I don't like adhering to the Bassey model for Bond songs anymore. The Bassey songs were great but that style has since run its course. Let's have some new fresh stuff now. I'm hoping that "You Know My Name" is something original and striking.

What zencat said is the pertinent point, of course.

It's easy to pick out a song and say "hey, that sounds like it could be a cool Bond song", but it's another kettle of fish to pick a song that would be great for a Bond movie.

I liked Madonna's song.

[ducks for cover]

Sounds good. We haven't had a rock song in a log time. I hope it's more like LALD then TLD.

Yeah, to her credit, Madonna did do an original sounding song. Unfortunately, it happened at Madonna's creative low point (IMO), her "techno phase," which even in 2002 was a sound that was over. But I liked her song okay.

That's absolutely my taste!!! This direction reminds me to Arnold's "Shaken And Stirred" album,... Yeah! :)

I think Bond needs a rock sounding theme song and with Craig as the new Bond and with what we have seen from this film so far, it seems like an edgier harder hitting song would fit very well. I am hoping that's what this turns out to be, especially since I have said before I think an AC/DC song would ROCK for a Bond movie. LOL.

Without giving anything away, I always felt it appropriate if they used the Bond theme to intro the song...considering the way we segue into the credits.

That 'Everybody' should be removed from the Bond film production team, IMO.

I want to call and congratulate that "everybody." It's about time we had a Bond song that just did its own thing, just like Paul McCartney did back with LIVE AND LET DIE.

I agree. Unlike past artists who were told to make it sound like a Bond song, Cornell is given leeway to make a kickass song.

Congrats :)

This just gets better all the time...they won this bitter, disillusioned fan back...in spades(pun intended). If this isn't The most memorable movie of 2006 I'll be shocked. :)

A couple of weeks ago many here seemed to like some kind of retro-style theme like Bassey for CR. I think that went along with the idea of CR to be kind of like FRWL as it was said here and there. But I think CR isn
