I hope they don't go the "realistic route" too heavily and retain a little "zany" fun as well.

It's not going to be zany. It's a very dramatic moment.

CRITIC: Craig's Bond seems amateurish and lost for much of the film.

BOND FAN: That's the whole flippin' point, dolt!

Is everyone's favourite crazy troll back?? :D

Bondfan, I have missed you!!

Glad to hear that EON may have finally made it to the 21st century with car chases. BOURNE SUPREMACY is supreme with that Volga vs Merc Moscow setpiece. If it comes near to that for realism and thrills then I can't wait.

Bondfan, stay on the meds!!

I'm looking foreward to a cool car chase! Of course I hope it has SOME gimmick...Bond chase scenes are almost always unique in some way (as I think Sean Sean mentioned). Bond chasing villains in a stolen tank and eluding still more villains in a high-speed car-park chase are hilariously over-the-top fun (not to forget skiing down a bobsled chute...that freaks me out every time I watch it, thinking of Bogner skiing backwards)!
I hope they don't go the "realistic route" too heavily and retain a little "zany" fun as well.

Off the subject a bit here, but I've always thought a great Bond film idea would be to feature a rogue Q-Branch agent as the villain (or close aid). More To The Point: Imagine Bond being pursued by thugs driving cars equipped with dangerous offensive gadgets and Bond forced to elude (and out-wit) his enemies in an ordinary car.

No no no no no this is just wrong. I know its your opinion and stuff but Bond has to fit into a post 9-11 world and in a post 9-11 world we have all seen what big weaponry does when given to a bunch of Bond wannabes in some far off country.

I would hope the new Bond direction would realize that if a Q Branch existed and can be transferred onto film they wouldn't build the car equivalent of an APACHE helicopter. It just kills it.

If you want cool gadets killing people (and lets face it big weapons kill lots of innocents as well) then just watch CNN.

For Bond to survive we have to beleive in his character and it diminishes a little bit every time he reverts to cool gadgets and smirks at the camera.

I don't think Casino Royale is going to have a single zany moment. To be honest.

heres hoping...I just watched DAD again and there were elements of genuine drama...PB really tries his best, but they are lost with the 'zany' corny bits. Completely ruined.

Such a shame really.

Those words will never come out of my mouth

I'm also glad there will be no "zaniness" in this film... I just really hope it does feel "different" after all we've heard about it.

BOND FAN: That's the whole flippin' point, dolt!

What you've done here is frighteningly forecast how a lot of critics will react to this. Many will also say it's not the James Bond we know and love and how this is a travesty and all that.

And if you had a dime for every time somebody is going to refer to this film as a "remake" of the 1967 Casino Royale you'd rival Goldfinger in the cash department. Not to mention how many headlines will read "Bond Begins."

And that's why I won't pay the mainstream critics any mind when it comes to reviewing genre flicks. If anything, I'll read a review or two after I've seen CR. This film is critic-proof from a Ebert/Roeper Joel Siegel standpoint. I depend on word-of-mouth and insights from fellow CBN's (and a friend named Zeke from the Bronx) when it comes to my moviegoing choices.

Now if Joe and Jane Neckbone are on the fence regarding CR, then they'll wait until Netflix or cable. This film is going to make it's money and recoup it's budget. We're not talking "Alexander" or "Posiedon" here.

The haters can have their knives out- I've got two middle fingers that are just as lethal!

Never, never give credit to critics in genre movies. They always aim for the wrong spot.

me too. I am abit worried. I just can't believe Barbara and co. I don't know why I feel this way, but I am very suspicious that it might not just be as good as it could be.

I think the last few Brosnan flicks dented my confidence aswell as the appalling amateurish approach to marketing and preoduct placement. I won't believe it is really real till I see it....

The thing that went wrong with the last couple of movies was the fact the actors were given a lousy script and weak story line. Having read the script (December draft) there is really nothing to worry about. There's no Denise Richards or Halle Berry to ruin the film either. And believe me, they are clearly taking a lot of time to make sure this film is perfect. And for the record, there is no zaniness (why we keep using this word is beyond me) in CR, just sharp wit and cool action. No worries.

Indeed,

Casino Royale is going to be one of the all time great Bond films I believe, from what I am seeing. Daniel Craig looks awesome and intense as 007 too. There's a whole new dark yet classy atmosphere to this movie which Dalton's films didn't have, yet it is more violent and hard hitting still. It will be really interesting and no doubt better than anything we have had lately.

I saw Ronin last night, and having yet to have discovered this thread at the time, found myself wondering why recent Bond films have been so inferior when it comes to chase sequences.

Let's home the claim about CR topping Ronin is true.

The Bond films have lagged behind for a long time. They should be setting the standard. I hope they do over the next few years. Bourne's Moscow chase is the all time best chase put to film in my humble opinion.
