I guess the question is now "Who in the world is not going to see this film tomorrow?"
Well, I won't see it tomorrow (I never go to a movie without my girlfriend, and she works). But I'm definately seeing it as soon as I can.

Snakes on a Plane
I must say, it reminds me of the cheesy 80's songs that accompanied those cheesy horror flicks back then. Definately a good sign

I love movies that take place in a limited amount of confined spaces. When executed well, it can be brilliant.

What a terrific flick! SNAKES ON A PLANE is truly the movie of the summer. Who would have thought a film with the title SNAKES ON A PLANE would actually be *good*?
Why is it terrific?
Pretend I'm a man from Mars - which I pretty much am when it comes to this movie. All I know about it (apart from the obvious facts that it stars Samuel L. Jackson and takes place on a plane) is that it's a low budget release notable for becoming a cult on the internet during production, to the point where fans actually ended up having a great deal of influence on the finished work (will we see lawsuits from fanboys who feel they deserve a cut, I wonder?).
That's it. Nothing I've heard about SNAKES ON A PLANE spells "quality" to me; quite the reverse, in fact. So what's so great about it? Is it funny? Scary? Both? Which films (if any) is it similar to?
I love cult films and B-movies, but these are only truly enjoyable when a cult following develops naturally (eg. Rocky Horror, Bad Taste), or if the film is awful despite the best intentions of the film-makers (eg. Showgirls). With SoaP, it looks as if the producers are actively trying too hard to make a B-movie, and marketing it as a cult film. Which apart from anything else defeats the whole point of why such films are fun to watch in the first place.
Yeah. A cult film deliberately made as such strikes one as a very smug exercise indeed.

Internet buzz: What is it good for?
After over six months of parody trailers, blog debates and mainstream press articles about the online hype, New Line will find out what it all means for the bottom line as "Snakes on a Plane" opens this weekend.
Pic is tracking like a normal late-summer horror film, which would indicate a bow in the high teens. But studio is hoping all the hype and buzz could translate into something much bigger, possibly as high as the 30s.
"I'm not sure you can track this movie," said New Line distribution prexy David Tuckerman. "Nobody can ever remember a film that has been like this. Since the beginning, we've just been trying to catch up with it."
Main competition this weekend is Universal's slacker comedy "Accepted," which is also going after a teenage aud but has the benefit of a PG-13 rating vs. an R for "Snakes."
One good sign for "Snakes": Intense exhibitor interest helped New Line book it at 3,555 playdates, very wide for a horror film.
Few doubt that theaters will be packed with the faithful -- mostly young males and some older males -- on Friday and for latenight shows Thursday.
Bigger question is whether good word of mouth will spread after hardcore fans finally get to see the film, convincing a broader aud that "Snakes" is more than an Internet oddity.

It is unexpectedly scary. Quite scary, in fact. It's remarkably well-crafted in that regard - once the movie gets heated up, it gets very intense. And at the same time, there's a good sense of humor woven throughout. Why is it terrific?

But here's really why SNAKES ON A PLANE is fantastic - it's shameless, unpretentious entertainment. It's a scary ride with a sense of fun at the same time. You've got Samuel L. Jackson being badass (his presence is definitely part of the appeal of this film), you've got snakes offing people left and right (the body count in this film is ridiculous), and you have characters you care about so that when they die, it has some impact.
For a film that had no right to be good, it is. Is this movie ridiculous? Yeah. But that's why it's great - it takes itself with a grain of salt. It's a film with a silly premise that is really just there to entertain, and that it does. It's one of the best times I've had at the movies this year and feels like a drink of water in a desert of summer films that just failed to be as thrilling as they should be. Is it an Oscar-winner? No, and nor should it be. But it delivers on what it promises, and that makes it stand out.

What next: "Elephants on the 2.30 from Paddington"?
You know, that sounds like a movie who mixes together Agatha Christie's "4.50 from Paddington" and "Elephants Don't Forget"
I'm going to see this film, no matter what. I just hope there won't be some guy/girl whose love is bitten by a snake and we'll have some corny love story.

Interesting. Nothing to add to the above, obviously. Will have to see it.
