Very disappointed to hear that this fifth season will be the final one.
Hope the show goes out with a bang.
Was unaware of this decision. Any reason given, QWERTY?

Me too. Apparently it happened back in May, but I only just stumbled across it online in the past few days.
Check out this article, Brett: http://www.zap2it.co...0,7596840.story (Despite it saying there will only be 13 episodes for the final season, I've read elsewhere it'll have the usual 20-24 to bring the entire series over the 100-episode mark).

Interesting. 100 eps are needed for a syndication bonanza these days.Very disappointed to hear that this fifth season will be the final one.

Damned shame. The whole crew had earned a lifetime of residuals. Guess that leaves trying to find the entire shebang on DVD.

Definitely seems to be the case.

Season 4 should be hitting DVD in a few weeks.

I've read somewhere that if the show does well at the Emmys and if ABC's new fall shows fail then Boston Legal could receive a full 22-24 episode season instead of just 13.
Fingers crossed.
Interesting. Here's hoping then.

Did any of you catch the Prologue to BL, appearing in a story arc at the end of THE PRACTICE? By that time, TP had been death rattling for seasons. But it came roaring back to life in this spectacular arc in which we met Alan Shore and Denny Crane. That, there, was truly astonishing TV. And I'd never seen anything like Denny Crane. Couldn't wait for the next week!
Oh yes. Up to that point, I'd never really cared all that much for The Practice, but when Alan Shore and Denny Crane arrived on the scene...

As will I. It's the only prime-timer I watch.Looks like the finale may be coming up this Monday. I've just finished taping and watching a bunch of the 2008 episodes I'd missed. Man, did I ever miss the boat in writing this show off last year and moving on to groaner pastures. The show's back in form with a vengeance and seems certain to close out in real Emmy style. Brilliantly written--the flawless combination of drama and comedy. Brilliantly acted all around. How sad I'll be to see this one go.
Wonder if they'll knock off Denny? I do hope they don't end it on too mournful a note, but it looks like that'll be tough to avoid.

My oracle is mum on this. Knocking him off would be a sure Emmy moment but I think the only way they could do that, sticking to the timeline, would be to have him commit suicide. Major no-no, I would think and out of tone for this series. They could end with Denny bravely facing the future while knowing what's ahead. Or--my personal choice--he could fly off solo to Russia to obtain the drug...I'm putting my trust in David Kelley to do the right thing by this classic show and by those of us who've followed it.

Same here. He's been 100% on the ball with every single episode this year. It's impossible to believe it's actually all coming to an end.

My own fave is a recent one: Denny fully aware that his Mad Cow Disease has taken the long-dreaded turn. He gave an 'I love life!' speech that caused me to burst into tears.
And you?

T'was a good one.Qwerty, Judo, anyone else: if you had to pick just one, or two, ultimate Denny Crane moments, which would you go for? TV Guide listed Bill Shatner's, but I felt Wild Bill missed the boat.

Two things here remind me of Lazenby. One, your admittance to bursting into tears. I have always loved how you completely overexaggerate Lazenby's crying in OHMSS.

And two, when what's-his-name Laroquette breaks the fourth wall during his court scene.
Brilliant stuff!

Very tough to say since I could probably single out a few things in pretty much every episode.
Near the top of the list would probably be when we were all actually first introduced to Denny Crane in the closing episodes of The Practice before Boston Legal even began. Now his constant saying of his name "Denny! Crane!" has become commonplace, but when this guy just shows up out of nowhere in those Practice episodes for the first time saying it... just perfect. Hilarious fun.

Still, David E. Kelley definitely knew how to deliver these two final episodes to fairly neatly tie things up (along with the occasional jab at ABC!).
One of my all time favourite shows.

Heard that he's already been working on a legal comedy follow-up to this one (hopefully to be ready for the 2009-10 season?).Good Lord Almighty, DK does know how to Exit! I believe I've read that this coming season (?) will be the first in some time without a DK series on the air. A few years back, he had either 3 or 4. He'll be missed till he comes back.
Hope we hear more about it soon.
