Yep and it's a major part of his character too because it was a gift from his dad, a WWII navy guy, so it had huge sentimental value to him.

Actually, Dad's watch wasn't a gift. It was given to Thomas when his father was killed in Korea.

I believe the episode was called "Adrift" or something similar - Magnum's Dad died on the 4th of July and, every 4th Thomas would take his ski-doo out a few miles in one of the channels and spend the day rowing back in. While out on it some jokers nearly clip him in a speedboat and he ends up treading water for nearly 24 hours before Rick, TC and Higgins realize he's 1) Late and 2) missing. During this we get flashbacks of a litttle Magnum and his Dad and Mom enjoying Hawaii before his Dad ships out. During this holiday, Dad times a young Magnum teaching him how to tread water in a tidal pool with the watch.

In the end it's revealed that Dad didn't make it home and during the services at Arlington, a young teary eyed Magnum raises his arm to salute his father's coffin with the big watch hanging on his wrist evoking memories of a young JFK Jr. saluting his father.

Much like the "Cross of Lombardy" Team ring, the watch was a staple of our favorite former SEAL/Naval Intel. Officer turned PI. Later, Magnum also wore a military silver MIA wrist band as well. Toss in a set of Ferrari keys and if need be, the classic Colt .45 auto and those were the staples of what he carried along with his wallet which rarely served any purpose because he was always broke.

Just got Season 4 on DVD. Good stuff.

Bryce,

In your opinion, wich is the best season of Magnum?

ps: in wich episode do we see that story of the little Thomas salute to his father's coffin?

(I've got the 1st, going for the 2nd)

IMO 76, the first three seasons are golden. After that, it's still all good, but the last two are pretty damn good.

Picked up the Wild Wild West season one.

Excellent!

I saw a rumor that may make some people less excited about a Magnum big screen project -- Ben Affleck being mentioned as cast as Magnum.

At least you'd know JLo wouldn't be involved.

Glad to be of help Agent76.

As to Magnum on the big screen, I don't think we'll see it. I say a TV reunion is more likely even though Selleck isn't all that interested. Then again, the only way is to have the original cast come back in. For those of us who made sure the homework was done before 8pm on Thursday nights and those that are now discovering it on DVD, you really can't do this show on the big screen.

It was these guys, Vietnam vets, who all never made it past Hawaii on the way home. OK, so everyone is older, wiser maybe a little slower, but still it was about the characters more than anything else.

I think it could work with the right script.
