What is with that pic...

Arg! Is that supposed to be Bond, or the author, or just some old guy?

I've never read this book before. Isn't it supposed to be a bit of a joke? Is it an actual story?

That's quite a funny pic, sure to sell lots of books. I'm pretty sure that's a mistake from Amazon. One can only hope. Whether Nov 28 2006 is a valid release date is another question altogether.

I'm 100% positive that's Pearson himself. As to why it's there, I have no clue.

It is not that much worse than the cover of my version of the book (Pyramid, US). Some sort of an action shot of an almost Moore looking Bond with a shoulder holster over a sweater.

I was thinking that was Pearson. Never seen a picture of him before - now that I think of it.

It's been pushed to a 2007 release date on the amazon.co.uk listing.

Yep, that is John Pearson. Don't know why Amazon used a picture of him, or that one in particular, but it is indeed him, and James Bond: The Authorized Biography Of 007 is a great book and a must for literary Bond fans. :)

I think anything released with Glidrose/IFP's permission is 'official'.

Are the comics, such as Golden Ghost , released with Gildrose/IFP permission?

I think this is the best non Fleming Bond book. I think Pearson captured the world of Fleming's Bond better than Amis or any of the other authors. As Zencat says, it certainly is underrated. Fortunately I have a nice immaculate hardcopy. It doesn't have a dust jacket though unfortunately. I am reading it now for the fourth time. I just love it. Pearson is arguably a better writer than Fleming too. Still he doesn't quite capture the intricate detail that Fleming did. I strongly recommend anyone who hasn't read this to do so. I just love it. For me it is the official biography of James Bond not what Higson writes. Still, the Higson books are good.

Actually after going to that link I think my copy did have the dust jacket on it when the person first gave it to me. I must have taken it off because it was coming loose or something. Don't know why I didn't just stick it back on. It was the plainest version I had, the second one down the page with a dark blue background and James Bond in big gold lettering. It must be sitting around somewhere. I wouldn't have thrown it away.

Not fantastic, but it could have been much worse.

I'm just happy that we're actually seeing the reprint of easily one of the most overlooked Bond novels.

Indeed. This and the two Christopher Wood novelizations seem to be two of the most overlooked entries in the literary 007 canon.

Looks like Random House dropped the US edition. Amazon doesn't have a listing for that anymore. From what I can find anyway. I recall seeing it a number of times, even being listed with the cover art, but I can't find it anymore. I linked to it once on my site and the link is now 404'd.

Seems unfortunate.....
