It doesn't matter that much. Solitaire was black in the novel but white in the film, didn't make much difference.

I watched the LALD dvd commentary last night. Solitaire in the novel is white of French descent. I also remember this from reading the novel.

I must've just thought that she was black because she was Haitian...which she was right?

The "Curse" of Bond girls are not bad films, but the lack of work offered to them after they do Bond. The curse is a myth because Halle Berry's career exploded with more offers after DAD. The fact that the films sucked doesn't mean it's a curse, she got plenty of offers.

Naomi Watts is a great actress, one of my favourites and I hope she gets to be a Bond girl someday. If she's going to be Vesper all she has to do is darken her hair and then we have the best Bond girl in years.

Gee, a whole Bond film where the lead actors have to dye their hair black. Maybe they should have called this one "DYE ANOTHER DAY"...

After thinking for a bit I think I know the perfect answer:
Natascha McElhone
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001523/
Isn't she beautiful as well as stunningly sexy?
She was sultry in 2002's "Solaris" and looked absolutely gorgeous in the recent US TV series "Revelations" (even though she was dressed as a nun for most of the time).
I had a copy of the book back in the 70's (wish I'd kept it) with a picture on the front of a tall, dark bruneete in a long sleeveless cocktail dress & opera gloves.
Forever I have associated Vesper Lynd (for my money the absolute sexiest of all the female characters in any of the books) with that tall brunette.
The tag line of the book read:
"Vesper Lynd; the conquest of her body had the sweet tang of rape..."
So dye Natascha's hair dark brown and dress her in a low cut, ankle length black cocktail dress with white opera gloves & bingo - instant Vesper!
I'm actually struggling to remember the nationality of Vesper - was she part French or Swiss?
If we can't get Natascha, try Carrie-Ann Moss or a complete left field casting of Francesca Rettondini:

For those of you who've seen "Ghost Ship", you will know why....
Perhaps it's the cocktail dress married with the opera gloves thing?
Cheers from Rich
