Naomi Watts is the latest rumored Bond girl contender:

She's the best "rumored candidate" so far but I still believe the writing on the back of the toilet paper roll about this stuff much more than The Sun.

The Sun were right about Craig all along. And Naomi is the star of the #1 movie in North America right now so I feel safe in assuming that someone official has her in mind.

Naomi Watts would be fine for Vesper Lynd. I would certainly welcome this move if EON and Sony can make it happen.

They do need a name actress for this part, and she could fit the bill perfectly.

I'd be alright with it. Something about her reminds me a touch of Diana Rigg, for whatever reason.

Of all the candidates supposedly rumoured, she's the best, IMHO. She's kind of the known yet unknown that Casino Royale needs.

I agree with that assessment. While not a brunette, she is a good actress and I think she would be great as Vesper. Of those rumored so far, I'd prefer Charlize Theron as the Bond girl, but that's just me. However, I will readily accept Naomi Watts as Vesper Lynd if she is cast. And with two good actors like Craig and Watts, their scenes together should be really good.

With the success of King Kong and the acting prestige of Watts among reviewers and her peers, getting her on board for Casino Royale would certainly be a mini-coup for the Bond team.

She would work well with those Vespery eyes of hers. At 5' 1 she would also make Daniel Craig look tall as Bond should be.

Maybe it was stated in CR and I just forgot, but I picture her a "dirty blonde". I don't know the actual terminology here. Regardless, they could just dye the hair. She'd probably look great as a brunette too.

She's not 5'1. She's more like 5'5.

that's bull. She's 5' 1

And Daniel Craig is not six foot :D

Don't you just love the extra height The Stars give themselves.

Bring it on. Dye Naomi's hair and make her Vesper. Or bring on Jennifer Connelly.

The Sun also reported (some time after Craig was revealed in October) that John Travolta - yes, John - had been the Bond filmmakers' first choice for the new 007.

"Russian vixen Vesper Lynd", eh? (Well, I guess she may be a Russian in the script for all we know, but it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the validity of this latest showbiz story.)

Apart from which, I doubt that Watts would even consider a Bond film at this point in her career, not even CASINO ROYALE with its supposedly excellent script. I'm sure she has much bigger fish to fry.

The Sun is just another tabloid. Occasionally, they get things right. But not on purpose.

Naomi Watts would be a great commercial choice to play Vesper Lynd. She has some marquee value.

I thought she was the best thing in King Kong. Sexy, elegant, human and stunning.

I want someone from France or Belgium or someone latin to play Vesper. She is English in the book though.

Catherine Zeta Jones would be perfect.

I first mentioned her back in Feb of 2004 in post # 438 on page 15 of the "Who should be Vesper" thread (here). Do I get some kind of spynovelfan prize* for that?

Seriously, though, I think Watts as Vesper would be a perfect compliment to Craig's Bond. I can't imagine her taking the role at this point, though. The world is her oyster. One never knows, of course.

BTW, the IMDB lists her height as 5'5", and I would be willing to wager my life savings (which is, admittedly, not a fortune by any estimation) that she is considerably taller than 5'1".

* See the history of speculative posting in re the casting of James Bond actor #6, and snf's subsequent revelation that 'twas he who had been the first to make the Craig connection.---ed.

I'd be perfectly fine with her in the Vesper Lynd role. If she'd really want to take that role on is another question.

She would be great. She also isn't a snob like Charlize, who turned down the role. She does a lot of genre films and she's a great actress. I hope they give her the job.

Not sure how I feel about Ms Watts as Vesper...

She's an incredible actress, sure, and very striking. Someone mentioned Rigg as Tracy, I get that kinda vibe as I don't picture Rigg at all when I read OHMSS, but it worked like gangbusters in the movie, she was the perfect Tracy. I don't "see" Watts as the Vesper in the novel, but she's so freakin' good I'm sure she'd be as definitive as Rigg was.

Alright, I convinced myself! Watts it is. Maybe it's always been a dream of hers to be a Bond girl? Be quite the catch for EON if they signed her. Let's hope this Sun rumour is true, then.

What the  ever. Berry was in one or two [censored]ty movies and now it's supposedly a "curse"? She was in X2. That was good. No mention of that. Don't you have to have more examples than just Halle Berry to even fathom the idea of a curse - let alone someone supposedly "cursing" it anyway?

View Post

Actually the Bond girl curse is quite a well documented thing that has been featured in a number of publications and documentaries over the years. Some actresses (like Jane Seymour) have managed to overcome it after several years and some (Famke Janssen) have not been affecxted by it.

Just look at some of these names: Sophie Marceau, Barbara Bach, Lois Chiles, Claudine Auger, Maud Adams, Carole Bouquet, Denise Richards, Maryam D'Abo and Tanya Roberts to name just a few. Most had promising careers ahead of them and then seemed to drop of the radar screen or head into television shortly after.

Not saying I like the idea of there being a "Bond girl curse" but its not a new idea that The Sun is bringing up.

That's just typecasting. That happens to every big series.

Most of the Bond girls didn't even have careers (example: Maryam D'Abo - a practical unknown) or their career was just as crappy before as it was after (example: Denise Richards), others had other things going on around the time or just quit altogether (example: Barbara Bach - divorce, married Ringo, quit in mid-80s)

Plenty of them, as you stated, have gone on to do other things: Seymour, Hatcher, Yeoh, Famke, Kim Basinger etc. Theres not a curse here.

It doesn't matter that much. Solitaire was black in the novel but white in the film, didn't make much difference.

I want to see a European brunette actress in the part. No Anglos please whether Brits or US, Aussie etc!

Monica Belluci although older still looks great and would be very convincing as Vesper.

Naomi Watts, she's ok but not right for CR.

If there is any truth to this Sun story (and that's a big "if"), I don't think doing a Bond film is the best career move for Watts. I don't expect we'll see her in Casino Royale.
