[Pleased smile!]Anytime.Does that mean I can come to your house, so I can watch it, too?
I agree, David, this is certainly not the best of all possible roles for him, but 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.
And I will clear the living room when its on and watch it, of course, however disappointed I might be.

As a huge Dalton fan, I a very disappointed that he has descended to the lvel of BBC counrty-house costume drama.
If only it were as good as the BBC. Tragically it's the ITV's 'Marple'; a far inferior cheap, comedy version when compared to the Beeb's version. They even changed the ending of one last series to get a bit of lesbian intrigue in there.

Of course, you're right, markt - it IS ITV who are doing the new Marple. I assume they're not muscling in on BBC country-house territory, then? I've watched the last one's - but the Suchet Poirot's I remember always seemed fairly glam country-house traditional, no?

They've set it in the 50's (which I'm sure it wasn't before) and gone for a pulp thriller feel. Plus they seem to have spent all their cash on the guest stars. Not sure why it feels cheap; as you say Poirot and some of their other stuff feels great. Marple just doesn't. And I don't think Geraldine McEwen is that good in the role, either. The BBC one is still definitive.

I wouldn't say the more recent episodes of Poirot are really all that much better, though. That series has taken a huge nosedive in quality since Brian Eastman stopped producing them. They're now made by exactly the same team of people who make the new Miss Marple series.

Anyway, even if 'The Sittaford Mystery' does turn out to be a stinker, at least it will get Dalton some much-needed exposure.
In any case, I don't think it can harm his career, since, let's face it, he doesn't really have much of a career to harm anymore. The negative fallout from James Bond has largely seen to that.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you on this point also. No, Marple isn't what I envisage for Tim myself, but I do think its important for him to be seen again in the UK. There is a lot of good work here for actors at the mo, with Working Title and Harry Potter alone providing work for just about every British actor we have.
It wont do him any harm and bearing in mind the last time he made the press in this country it was for those dreadful 'Thanksgiving' pictures....

Well, His Dark Materials was a pretty high profile role. Two years ago, admittedly..!
Yep. And very good in it he was too.

Timothy Dalton will be playing Captain Trevelyan in the new ITV adaptation of Agatha Christie's The Sittaford Mystery, for broadcast in 2006.
It's good that Tim Dalton will be in a high profile show again but what a pity it's in one of these abysmal new ITV Marple adaptations (for some idiotic reason they've dropped the "Miss" from the title). The 1980s BBC versions (still being shown) with the definitive Miss Marple, Joan Hickson, were vastly superior in every department.

I have a picture from the TV times of the smaller one on your site that is much better and not as dark. Unfortunately, I do not have a scanner.

Such a pity... and you don't have a digi camera either?
Never thought of that. I obviously hadn't had enough coffee this morning.

I will try and take a shot but the pic is very small ... see what happens ...
