Well, just to say I was right again! Hah! When I started this thread, one of the bands I suggested to do a Bond song was "Audioslave". And look, the lead singer of this band, Chris Cornell, has been announced as the artist contributing the main song for "Casino Royale".

Now, please excuse me whilst I perform my "I told you so" dance. I rule!

Like the time I predicted that the Beatles would do a Bond song, then Paul McCartney did Live and Let Die. [censored]

If only people listened to us a bit more, eh Blofeld's Cat?
Nah in all seriousness though, I cannot wait to hear this tune that Cornell's doing. Anyone who knows "Soundgarden" or "Audioslave" knows that this guy is a true rock legend, and an awesome songwriter (anyone who doesn't beleive me, check out the album "Superunknown" by Soundgarden).
Personally, this is one of the best bits of news I've heard about this film, and frankly the more I hear, the more I like...
"Casino Royale" is gonna [censored]ing rock!

Heavy metal och Heavy Rock is not right genre for Bond. It is excellent music but it isn't Bond music. A mainstream rock band would be fun to hear again, bands like Duran Duran or A-Ha. But for CR I personally want a jazzy title theme with much trumpets, horns and stuff. But also with guitar, bass, drums and so on. But for Bond 22 and on from there I would like to see a mainstream rock theme. Maybe with a nice guitar solo

I agree whole-heartedly. Someone mentioned the Afghan Wigs doing a song. They're disbanded now, but the Twilight Singers would be excellent, if you were to use a group of that sort.
But now that Chris Cornell is signed on to do the song, that won't happen. I'm not sure how I feel about that choice.

Yes, I said the Afghan Whigs. Thought I mentioned the Twilight Singers, too, but can't be bothered to search. They (he) would be even better. Very dark, glamorous, twisted. Lovely stuff. :)

I've always thought that the Red Hot Chili Peppers could do a Bond theme for a long time. Mae would also be good.

The chili peppers would probably do a good song - something on the lines of LALD

ChickenStu was right all along!! Amazing!

I always liked "Black Hole Sun" by Soundgarden, it sounds like the end of the world and you don't know whether to smile and let it happen or fight.

I liked the video for it as well, weird but cool.

Hope the Bond theme he does is great.

Indeed you rule!

I went back over all the anti-rock-nay-sayers' posts and had a good laugh.

That's right, Chris Cornell of Audioslave, Soundgarden and Temple of the Dog is doing the new Bond theme ... very cool.

I wouldn't mind a tune from Bon Jovi or Van Halen. Heck, a solo song from Sammy Hagar would be cool.

I was thinking Van Halen myself. Specifically "Van Hagar," because Sammy brought the polish to the music that would make it fit with Bond. The Roth era had a more raw edge. (Interestingly, I heard an interview with Sammy in which he referred to his time with Van Halen as "Van Hagar." I guess that makes it official.) Sammy solo would be good too, and Bon Jovi never even occured to me, but I like it.

For the titles some Goth metal, symphonic metal would be okay.
For the orchestration, a good fusion of doom and symphonic metal would work.

Mainstream rock is just not for Bond at all. It's like getting Bond into the pop-culture scene which is just too wrong and will be entirely laughable. (Imagine Britney's version of "I Love Rock and Roll" or the Linkin Park remixes). Don't misunderstand me, however it's just too "American-English". For sequences like "Bond in New York" that would be okay.

Bond music has always been in the fore of musical innovation.
Rock and metal on it's own will never work. Fusions will.
From John Barry we got Jazz/Rock and Pop/Rock.
From David Arnold we got Techno/Rock and Symphonic/Rock.
Rock has always been a signature in Bond music.

I just keep wondering about the musical mood swings in Bond.
Each generation has a slightly noticeable music theme.
Roger's era was a ligth-hearted approach and the mood would be either romantic or silly.
From the mid-80s till now, the focus has always been on
* "bringing Bond to his roots"
* "getting Bond to be grittier, edgier and darker"
* "getting Bond to be a believable killer"
etc. etc.
If this goes on, I wouldn't be surprise when the signature changes to hardcore rock with fusions.

I love the idea.

Earth shattering drums kick in at the start of the main titles followed by a wicked guitar solo to get the audience pumped.

The song starts off pretty much exactly as i predicted!

Love the drums and guitar.
