Disturbed. They were actually quite good once...

Weren't the Stones approached for GOLDENEYE? Seriously, though, are they still any good?

Of course they are! The Stones would be great! Heh, I'm guessing you're not the biggest rock fan, am I right? :)

Nah, I do like rock, but not so much "heavy" rock or metal. My favourite band of all time is The Stone Roses (who are actually quite heavy on parts of "Second Coming", a CD that should be owned by anyone who's into guitars). I like some of The Rolling Stones' stuff, but I don't think I've heard anything they've done since the '70s.

Heavy metal och Heavy Rock is not right genre for Bond. It is excellent music but it isn't Bond music. A mainstream rock band would be fun to hear again, bands like Duran Duran or A-Ha. But for CR I personally want a jazzy title theme with much trumpets, horns and stuff. But also with guitar, bass, drums and so on. But for Bond 22 and on from there I would like to see a mainstream rock theme. Maybe with a nice guitar solo

Good point. I think they kind of lost their fizz after the '70s. There were a few good songs here and there, but I haven't heard their latest album so I don't know if they could do a Bond theme. I'm not really into majorly heavy stuff either. Sure, I like some metal bands like Metallica and Rage, but I really can't stand all the stuff that goths go for (no offense to any goths here) but I don't go for that. Give me Stevie Ray Vaughan any day :) .

Nothing quite says "Bond" like some thrashing speed metal!

In all seriousness, I do not think it is a good idea actually.

Bond music demands a certain level of haunting elegance. Metal just cannot afford that elegance in my opinion.

I love the idea.

Earth shattering drums kick in at the start of the main titles followed by a wicked guitar solo to get the audience pumped.

It's been a long time since a powerful main title song along the lines of Thunderball by Tom Jones or Live and Let Die.

An instrumental main theme for Casino Royale would be a nice change as well rather than trying to somehow incorporate Casino Royale into the lyrics.

I still reckon "The Darkness" would do a great Bond tune. And Solex Agitator if you think metal doesn't have "haunting elegance" you should really listen to a bit more of it.
Try listening to "Tool". Or "Taproot". You'll be pleasantly surprised.

The Darkness would definitely do an...interesting Bond tune. It'd be fun to see them give it a go! I wouldn't want a heavy rock tune that would have people moshing in the cinema, but I'm not against a rock band doing a Bond tune. I'd like Muse to do one, myself.

Also, I know they're more Britpop than rock, but didn't Pulp do a tune for TND (albeit it got rejected)?

Well I reckon bond is screaming for a hard rocking Robbie Williams number for the intro

As for the other suggestions
.........................
Audioslave: havent heard enough to judge

Foo Fighters: A bit too mainstream radio friendly... but then again every other bond song has, so who knows

Incubus: same as audio slave

Korn: HELL NO! Have you heard queen of the damned? JD can't sing for :) anymore and his voice wouldn't suit for the movie. If he toned the music down maybe, but need to loose his voice lol

Linkin Park: Kinda too hip hop/rappy, they could perhaps do somthing, but it would have to co-incide a new album i think

Red Hot Chili Peppers... perhaps

Slipknot... Only have 1 or 2 good songs that would suite bond (i like the rest of thier music though)

The Darkness... British? singers... Yeah it could work
.............................

Nine inch nails maybe, some of thier mellow stuff is good
tool or a perfect circle (basically anything featuring maynard) would be rocking
evenescene or nightwish maybe if you're not after a male vocalist, but I think we need a new male vocalist

Well, I saw Korn live at the Brixton Academy a couple of months ago and I would have to disagree with you.

I'm leaning towards Audioslave now. I've got both of their albums and they're a great band. Chris Cornell has the best voice ever IMO, and I think it would fit a Bond theme perfectly. The guitar effects Tom Morello uses can also create some quite haunting music. Try listening to some of their softer tracks such as Like A Stone or Be Yourself.

I still think "The Darkness" would be the best bet. I think they'd pull it off perfectly.

Give me a break, do you want this to be James Bond or XXX. I think you have to stay old school, but I do think that there are some bands that could accomplish this. I've said it on these forums before and got attacked for it, but I think the song "The Widow" by The Mars Volta could be used with almost no changes. Has a retro sound and I think fits the Bond style. Something along those lines.

Huuumm, a rock band for a Bond soundtrack eh? Well, you've got my attention. I was doing research for The Doors on my enclopedia and they said that Jim Morrison was supposed to do the soundtrack for Live And Let Die. But sadly, he passed away and so the job was given to Paul McCartney. Well, if Morrison was picked, he would make a slow but moving Bond soundtrack.

You know, if they want to make this new film a bit harder and grittier then one thing they do have to change is the music. Get David Arnold back to do the score by all means, but I'm fed up with these divas doing dirgy Bond tunes.
I'd love to hear a Bond tune done by a rock/metal band. Here are a few bands who I think could pull it off.

A
Audioslave
Foo Fighters
Incubus
Korn
Linkin Park
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Slipknot
The Darkness

If they want to change things then why not? What do you guys think? One more Garbage style TWINE tune, I think I'll shoot myself...

As I have said before on one other topic,(Qwerty, you might remember this one.) I would like for one of the bond girls to do the title song( I know, sounds a lot like EON). I just came up with an idea. Have DJ Paul Okanfeld do a non-vocal title song. I mean, come on, the music was a high point on that game. ( for those of you who don't the "game", It is G:RA.) So why not? It could be fun listening to Okanfeld in the theater and at home, blasting out his hardcore music.

OK. Get the new album by "The Darkness", called "One Way Ticket To Hell... and Back". There's a song on it called "Bald". This song is irrefutable proof that they could do a CRACKING Bond tune...

I don't want to have a hard rock/metal Bond theme song...
At least not for the Main title theme. If it was a variation of the theme played at an appropriate point in the film, that could be cool...

Got the album at the weekend, and have been dancing round my bedroom like a mad thing ever since!

I see what you mean about 'Bald'; a song like that could work pretty well. It's maybe a bit heavier than I'd thought would work, but you never know!

Great innit? I can see the music video now! Justin Hawkins wearing a tux lounging around in the famous gun barrel singing, with clips from the movie intercut at certain moments. It all fits!

I'd like to see the Stones have a bash at it. They may be octogenarians, but they still know how to make great rock songs. I can just hear Jagger getting his Cockney-Texan sneer round 'Caseeno Royahrle'.

Things were lookin' pretty sweet
Until you couldn't take the heat
You knew that you were beat
Down at Caseeno Royahrle

When you saw the girl M sent over
From those white white cliffs of Dover
You knew that everyfink was over
Down at Caseeno Royahrle...

Well, just to say I was right again! Hah! When I started this thread, one of the bands I suggested to do a Bond song was "Audioslave". And look, the lead singer of this band, Chris Cornell, has been announced as the artist contributing the main song for "Casino Royale".

Now, please excuse me whilst I perform my "I told you so" dance. I rule!
